Ryan Hanigan will start at catcher for the Reds on Opening Day against the Marlins.
Devin Mesoraco is clearly the better talent, but Reds manager Dusty Baker tends to march to the beat of his own drum and is likely to give the veteran Hanigan far too much playing time throughout the 2012 campaign.

Tue Nov 22 201121:10Angels targeting Reds' catcher Ryan Hanigan
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Angels are targeting Reds' catcher Ryan Hanigan on the trade market.
The Angels would likely have to pay a heavy price, as Hanigan signed a three-year, $4 million extension in February and is under team control through 2014. Rosenthal notes that the Reds could re-sign free agent catcher Ramon Hernandez, but it's worth noting that they also have youngsters Devin Mesoraco and Yasmani Grandal in the pipeline.

Ryan Hanigan went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Cincinnati's 4-1 win over the Rockies on Friday.
The multi-RBI night was Hanigan's eighth of the season. That's a lot for someone who has driven in just 31 runs. Batting .268/.359/.360, Hanigan should again be a part of Cincinnati's backstop duo in 2012. Whether or not he's joined by Ramon Hernandez or Devin Mesoraco remains up in the air, however.
