Hanigan had a run scored, an RBI and two walks in Thursday night's win over Philadelphia.
Hanigan is hitting just .125, but has put together some quality at-bats early and has four walks through the first three games. That's come in handy at the bottom of the order during a time when Boston was playing in a National League city, requiring its pitchers to hit.

Hanigan went 1-for-3 with a walk in Boston's 8-0 win over Philadelphia on Monday. More importantly, he called a nice game in which Clay Buchholz struck out nine in seven shutout innings.
Though he's never played more than 112 games in any one season, Hanigan should get the majority of starts behind the plate for Boston after Christian Vazquez was lost for the season due to Tommy John surgery.

Hanigan was the starting catcher in Boston's game against the Rays on Saturday.
Boston's catching situation heated up Saturday when we learned that Christian Vazquez (elbow) will not be ready for the start of the regular season. The piqued interest, of course, is whether or not Boston will keep prospect Blake Swihart around to replace Vazquez on the roster. But it's Hanigan who will serve as the team's first-string backstop initially.

Hanigan is expected to be Boston's primary catcher at the start of the regular season, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports.
Christian Vasquez (elbow) is "unlikely" to be ready for Opening Day, according to manager John Farrell, meaning Hanigan will see an increased role to start the season. That said, Hanigan is a defensive specialist behind the plate and will presumably bat ninth for Boston when he's in the lineup, making him a low-end option in two-catcher leagues.
Sat Mar 28 201506:34Hanigan hitting .250 (4-of-16) in eight spring games
Hanigan is hitting .250 (4-of-16) in eight spring games.
The longer Christian Vazquez (elbow) remains out, the better chance we'll see Hanigan as Boston's primary starter at catcher to the start the season. Vazquez is scheduled for an MRI on Saturday and continues to catch in minor-league games, but is not yet full bore when throwing to bases.

The Padres traded Hanigan to the Red Sox on Friday for third baseman Will Middlebrooks, MLB.com reports.
Two days after the Rays shipped Hanigan to San Diego, the Padres flipped the 34-year-old to Boston for yet another power bat in Middlebrooks. Hanigan hit just .218/.318/.324 in 84 games last season, his first in the American League, but his value comes in the form of pitch framing and defense. Look for Hanigan to play second fiddle to Christian Vazquez in the early going this upcoming season.
Wed Dec 17 201418:16Ryan Hanigan: Traded To The Padres
The Rays agreed to trade Hanigan, along with Wil Myers, to the Padres on Wednesday as part of three-team deal with the Nationals, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.
The prize acquisition for San Diego is clearly Myers, but Hanigan makes for a decent enough throw-in for a Padres team that recently dealt Yasmani Grandal and is looking to compete right away. Touted mostly for his pitch-framing and defensive abilities, Hanigan also has a .353 OPS for his career, though those skills have waned in recent seasons. Regardless, the 34-year-old Hanigan figures to see most of the playing time behind the plate in 2015, but he still won't be much of a fantasy option even in the deepest two-catcher leagues.

Hanigan went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 1-0 victory over the Blue Jays.
In a fairly rare display of power, Hanigan provided the only run of this contest with his third-inning blast off of Blue Jays' lefty J.A. Happ. The veteran catcher has been swinging the bat well so far here in the season's last month, going 8-for-25 with five RBI across 10 games (seven starts).
Sun Sep 7 201412:49Hanigan out of lineup again Sunday
Hanigan is out of the lineup again Sunday.
Hanigan will sit for the second straight day Sunday, with Jose Molina starting behind the plate while Curt Casali caught Saturday's contest. There's no indication of an injury for the veteran catcher, but with three backstops on the roster in September, it's possible Hanigan will see less playing time.

Hanigan will give way to Jose Molina in the finale against Baltimore, after going 1-for-7 with a run scored in his first two games back from the DL. His fantasy upside is limited, but Hanigan will serve as the primary option behind the plate for the Rays now that he's healthy.
