Emilio Bonifacio is making his first start of the year at third base in Saturday's game against the Brewers.
Bonifacio has appeared in three games at third, but it's his first start there since he made five last year with the Royals. He's started 32 games in center and 14 at second base this year.

Tue May 13 201400:27Emilio Bonifacio scores five times
Emilio Bonifacio became the first Cub since 1987 to score five runs in a game Monday against the Cardinals.
Bonifacio went 4-for-5 with a walk in the 17-5 rout. His five runs matched the high total in franchise history, last equaled by Jody Davis in 1987. Before that, Bill Madlock scored five times in a game in 1974. Those were the only two instances of a Cub scoring five runs since 1950. Overall, Bonifacio was the 41st player to get there since 2000. The last was Mark Trumbo last September.

Wed May 7 201400:50Bonifacio has RBI, stolen base vs. White Sox
Emilio Bonifacio went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a stolen base against the White Sox on Tuesday.
The stolen base was Bonifacio's 11th of the year. His RBI single was one of the Cubs' four hits on the night, and it was his first hit in four games. The 29-year-old is still hitting .308 for the year.

Wed Apr 30 201423:01Bonifacio's two hits, SB aids Cubs in win
Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-6 with an RBI double and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Reds.
While Bonifacio hasn't been nearly as productive as he was to start the season, he's still hitting .337 and he stole his first base since April 20 -- his 10th of the season. He had struck out seven times in four games entering Wednesday. When he makes contact, Bonifacio is a pest; if he's not making contact, he's easy to handle, and therein lies his fantasy value.

Wed Apr 30 201400:59Bonifacio has two hits, run scored vs. Reds
Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-5 with a run scored against the Reds on Tuesday.
Bonifacio has backed off his torrid pace somewhat since the start of the season, but the 29-year-old is still hitting .337 for the year. One thing that has cooled off is his stolen base production -- after stealing nine bases through his first 16 games, Bonifacio hasn't swiped a bag in his last seven games. A big part of his fantasy value lies in his stolen bases, so hopefully that aspect of his game comes back soon.

Emilio Bonifacio is not in the Cubs' lineup Sunday.
It appears to just be a routine day of rest. Junior Lake is in center field Sunday, with Ryan Kalish in left field and in the leadoff spot. Welington Castillo is also sitting out, as John Baker is catching Jason Hammel.

Sun Apr 20 201419:15Bonifacio swipes ninth base in loss Sunday
Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-4 with his ninth stolen base in a loss to the Reds on Sunday.
Bonifacio was also victim of his first caught stealing of the year by Devin Mesoraco. The speedster has fallen to third in the league in steals behind Dee Gordon and Eric Young, who both have 10, but Bonifacio continues to torch opposing pitching for a .366 batting average atop the Cubs lineup.

Sat Apr 19 201417:49Bonifacio has three hits in win over Reds
Emilio Bonifacio was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base Saturday against the Reds.
Bonifacio was in an 0-for-13 slump this week, but he got a hit and a walk on Friday and had another big day today. The 28-year-old is hitting .358 (24-for-67) with eight stolen bases and 11 runs scored through 15 games. We were never counting on the hot start to last, but his speed and mulit-position eligibility should come in handy as long as he's playing regularly and batting leadoff for Chicago.

Wed Apr 16 201423:48Emilio Bonifacio goes 0-for-8
Emilio Bonifacio finished Wednesday's doubleheader 0-for-8 against the Yankees.
The fun times are over; Bonifacio has gone 1-for-21 in his last five games to drop his average from .500 to .339. Still, it says a lot about how hot he was early on that he can have a 1-for-21 stretch and still be hitting .339. He still rates as the Cubs' best leadoff option at the moment, and we'd expect him to remain in the lineup most of the time.

Bonifacio continued his hot-hitting ways, collecting three singles to push his average to .515 (17-for-33) on the year. The second baseman also stole his fifth base, swiping third and scoring on an Anthony Rizzo single. Bonifacio also picked up his second RBI of the year in the game.

Thu Apr 3 201401:24Emilio Bonifacio delivers five-hit game
After going 4-for-5 in Monday's opener, Emilio Bonifacio went 5-for-7 with a walk and two steals as the Cubs' leadoff man Wednesday.
Even before the game got all crazy in extra innings, Bonifacio became just the fifth player in 100 years to have consecutive four-hit games to start a team's season. In the 15th, he picked up yet another single, making him the first known player to collect nine hits through two games. He was also picked off first base for the second time in two games, but that kind of thing is easier to accept from a .750 hitter. He does have three steals to go along with the two pickoffs.

Mon Mar 31 201416:39Bonifacio goes 4-for-5, steals base in loss
Emilio Bonifacio finished 4-for-5 with a stolen base Monday in the Cubs' loss to the Pirates.
Bonifacio singled three times and doubled once, and he was aggressive on the bases all afternoon. If new Cubs manager Rick Renteria embraces the running game -- and it appears that he already has -- Bonifacio could carry significant fantasy value this summer.

Sun Mar 30 201415:58Emilio Bonifacio has contract purchased
Cubs purchased the contract of INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio from Triple-A Iowa.
Bonifacio's inclusion on the roster was never in doubt. He'll give the Cubs some speed and the ability to play multiple positions.

Thu Mar 6 201420:05Bonifacio to hit leadoff when in lineup
Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports that Emilio Bonifacio "will likely be the Cubs' leadoff man when he's in the lineup."
Starlin Castro will hit leadoff on Opening Day, but Bonifacio will be used as a super utility player and will see plenty of playing time at second base, third base and the outfield. Even without a defined starting role, the speedster is a great late-round speed option in fantasy leagues.

Sat Feb 15 201412:17Cubs ink Emilio Bonifacio to minors contract
Cubs signed INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio to a minor league contract.
He will receive an invitation to spring training as well. It's unclear how he'll be utilized in Chicago, but the speedy 28-year-old could find plenty of at-bats at third base or second base, and represents a tremendous source of speed in fantasy leagues if he finds regular playing time.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Bonifacio has drawn interest from at least nine teams, including the Orioles. He should land somewhere quickly.

Tue Feb 11 201410:22Multiple teams interested in Bonifacio
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that numerous teams are showing interest in Emilio Bonifacio.
Bonifacio was designated for assignment by the Royals last weekend and is now on release waivers. Rosenthal finds it unlikely he'll be claimed, as the claiming team would owe him his entire $3.5 million salary for 2014. Assuming he becomes a free agent at 2 p.m. ET tomorrow, the Royals would owe him $575,000 in termination pay.

Mon Feb 10 201414:04Royals place Bonifacio on release waivers
Emilio Bonifacio has been placed on release waivers.
Bonifacio was designated for assignment by the Royals at the beginning of February and a trade partner has not been found. The 28-year-old utilityman batted just .243 with a .625 OPS in 2013 and he's owed a $3.5 million salary in 2014, but he has good speed and should find a new home before the official start of spring training.
