Sat Jun 9 201220:52Colvin blasts pair of homers in losing effort
Tyler Colvin blasted a pair of homers on Saturday, but it wasn't enough in a loss to the visiting Angels.
Colvin finished the day 3-for-4. He hit his first shot off Dan Haren in the second and the other off Hisanori Takahashi in the seventh. The outfielder has provided solid power in limited looks for the Rockies this year, batting .283 with five homers and 15 RBI in just 106 at-bats. He should begin seeing more and more playing time.

Sun May 13 201220:25Tyler Colvin getting hot for Rockies
Tyler Colvin stayed hot by going 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
Colvin started at first base and then moved to center field after Dexter Fowler (blurred vision) left. Over Colvin's last 18 at-bats, he's now hitting .388 with two homers and five RBI. There's some NL-only appeal here, especially if Fowler misses time.

Sun Apr 15 201201:31Tyler Colvin hits first homer
Getting the start in place of Carlos Gonzalez, Tyler Colvin went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Saturday.
Combine a nice 5-for-11 start with his big spring and Colvin is making a case for starts in center field over Dexter Fowler. He's worth picking up in NL-only leagues.

Mon Apr 2 201219:17Colvin finishes spring hitting .385
Tyler Colvin went 0-for-3 in Monday's loss to the Mariners, but will finish his spring with a .385/.419/.631 triple slash.
They're huge numbers for a player who needed something to build on after hitting .150/.204/.306 in 2011, and could put some early-season heat on Dexter Fowler if he struggles out of the gate. Colvin's worth monitoring in NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats.

Thu Mar 22 201219:30Tyler Colvin ups spring average to .387
Tyler Colvin stayed hot Thursday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI against the Padres.
Colvin came into the game hitting .333 in Cactus League play and now has his average up to .387 over 29 at-bats. He's homered and tripled once, doubled three times and driven in nine runs. Colvin had a disastrous 2011 season and won't start for the Rockies, so you should take a wait-and-see approach with him in NL-only leagues.

Thu Dec 8 201121:05Rockies land Colvin, LeMahieu from Cubs
Rockies acquired OF Tyler Colvin and INF D.J. LeMahieu from the Cubs for 3B Ian Stewart and RHP Casey Weathers.
Colvin failed to build on his superb rookie campaign this year in Chicago, batting just .150 with a .509 OPS after registering an .816 OPS and 20 homers in a breakout 2010. But the Rockies clearly believe he has the potential to become a useful major league outfielder. They're also expected to give him some reps at first base in 2012.

Fri Aug 19 201117:41Tyler Colvin knocks in game-winning
Pinch-hitter Tyler Colvin delivered a game-winning single Friday as the Cubs edged the Cards 5-4 in 10 innings.
Colvin had started five straight games before sitting against left-hander Jaime Garcia today. He figures to be in the lineup against most righties from now on, and since he's warming up at the plate, he's worth using in deep NL-only leagues.

Sat Aug 13 201109:36Tyler Colvin will have to earn playing time
Cubs manager Mike Quade said Tyler Colvin will have to earn playing time rather than have it be given to him because the team is well out of the playoff race.
"I won't throw my veterans, who have been battling all year, [on the bench],'' Quade said. "Especially Reed [Johnson] - what a year he's had - and say, `You're going to sit down for a week.' No... And these kids will get their at-bats and opportunities, but to me it's not just, `Here it is, go get it and the rest of these guys can watch you play.''' GM Jim Hendry said the reason Kosuke Fukudome was dealt was to get a two-month evaluation period on Colvin, but evidently he and Quade don't see eye to eye in that regard. The Cubs have shown zero foresight all year from what has been a sinking ship, so we can't be surprised that they continue to refuse to look to the future.

Wed Aug 3 201120:51Tyler Colvin ejected
Tyler Colvin was ejected from Wednesday's game in the top of the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes.
Colvin must have said the magic word to home plate ump Bob Davidson, because he got the heave-ho after leaning back and saying a few words to him. Then again, it's Bob Davidson, so Colvin might not have said much at all. Cubs manager Mike Quade was also given the boot after coming out to argue following Colvin's ejection. Reed Johnson replaced Colvin in right field.

Thu Jul 28 201112:49Cubs call up OF Colvin from minors
Cubs recalled OF Tyler Colvin from Triple-A Iowa.
Colvin is batting just .105 (20-for-95) with two home runs and eight RBI with the Cubs this season, but he'll likely get a chance for significant playing time now that Kosuke Fukudome has been dealt to the Indians. Tony Campana, who is starting in right field on Thursday, could also benefit.

Tue Jun 14 201119:14Tyler Colvin optioned
Cubs optioned OF Tyler Colvin to Triple-A Iowa.
It's the second demotion this season for Colvin, who has been terribly disappointing with a .105 (20-for-95) batting mark to go along with two homers and eight RBI. He'll be back at some point.

Mon Jun 13 201103:30Colvin hitless in four at-bats
Tyler Colvin finished Sunday's loss 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
After recently ending an 0-for-34 slump, Colvin shows no signs of salvaging his sophomore season. He is now hitting .105 in 95 at-bats. His playing time could be cut when the injured Reed Johnson returns to the lineup.

Wed Jun 1 201111:45Colvin starting in center field Wednesday
Tyler Colvin will start in center field for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
He'll bat eighth against right-hander Brett Myers. Colvin had a lowly .113/.191/.258 batting line over 68 plate appearances before being demoted to the minors last month, but he's worth a look in NL-only leagues now that Alfonso Soriano and Marlon Byrd are both on the disabled list.

Sat May 14 201120:05Colvin may land in minors to get more at-bats
Manager Mike Quade said that he is considering sending Tyler Colvin to the minors to get him regular at-bats.
Colvin has just 11 at-bats in the entire month of May and is hitless. With Alfonso Soriano, Marlon Byrd, Kosuke Fukudome and Reed Johnson all playing well, there's just no room for Colvin. Barring an injury or trade, Colvin won't be on the radar in re-draft leagues.

Mon Apr 18 201122:46Colvin the hero as Cubs win tight game
Tyler Colvin doubled home Geovany Soto in the 10th inning on Monday night, plating the game's first run and walking the Cubs off to a 1-0 victory over the Padres.
Colvin's heroics came as a pinch-hitter. The 25-year-old outfielder is off to an almost impossibly bad start this season, hitting just .150 through his first 40 at-bats, but should be given a chance to readjust his approach before you cut him loose in your NL-only league.

Tue Apr 5 201117:49Colvin hits three-run homer to lead Cubs
Filling in for Carlos Pena at first base, Tyler Colvin hit a three-run homer off Barry Enright to help the Cubs edge the Diamondbacks 6-5 on Tuesday.
Colvin also drew a walk, just as he has in each of his three starts this season. He finished his rookie campaign with a 100/30 K/BB ratio in 358 at-bats and he wasn't any better in the minors, so that's a nice first-week surprise. Colvin has plenty of power, so if he can become more selective at the plate, the future would seem to be pretty bright.

Sun Mar 27 201119:00Colvin slams Billy Buckner
Tyler Colvin hit an eighth inning grand slam off of Colorado's Billy Buckner on Sunday.
The homer was his third of the spring. It wouldn't be surprising if Colvin experiences a little bit of a sophomore slump this season, but he's still quite likely to out-produce Kosuke Fukudome in Chicago's right field platoon.

Fri Mar 4 201118:28Colvin picks up three hits, three RBI
Tyler Colvin went 3-for-3 with three RBI against the Royals on Friday.
He had just two hits and one RBI through his first four spring games coming into today, so it's nice to see his bat wake up a bit. Regardless of how he performs this exhibition season, though, he should still find himself in a right-field platoon with Kosuke Fukudome come Opening Day.

Mon Feb 14 201117:12Colvin to see time at first base this spring
Tyler Colvin is expected to get time at first base during exhibition games this spring.
Carlos Pena should start at first base on most days and nights for the Cubs this season, but it never hurts to have a readily available second option. "It'll be more than just a glimpse," manager Mike Quade said. "He'll play some games over there." The 25-year-old slugged 20 home runs as a rookie in 2010 and will spend most of his time this season in a right field platoon with Kosuke Fukudome.

Sun Sep 26 201009:43GM says Colvin will be in mix at 1B in 2011
Cubs GM Jim Hendry has confirmed that Tyler Colvin (chest) will be fine and that he'll be in the mix for the first base job next season.
Colvin had a solid rookie season, hitting .254/.316/.500 with 20 homers and 56 RBI. He has never played first base at the professional level but has been taking groundballs there during infield practice for weeks. He's likely to have a better shot at winning an everyday job there than in the outfield.
