Sat Feb 28 201509:35Mujica revealed he had neck issue early last season
Mujica revealed he had a neck issue early last season, something that played a role in his slow start to the season, WEEI.com reports. The right-hander carried a 7.29 ERA after his first 22 appearances.
Mujica said he was diagnosed with a C1 vertebrae being out of place, but it did not bother him in the warm climate of Florida. It didn't begin to bother him until he hit the colder weather up north and didn't clear up until mid-way through the season. He also said adjusting to the American League played a role in his sub-par April and May. Mujica is scheduled for late-inning relief work and occasional save opportunities.

Mujica is in line to be Boston's closer for games when Koji Uehara is not available, the Providence Journal reports.
Manager John Farrell laid out his plans for the bullpen Saturday, noting that he'll monitor Uehara's usage closely. Mujica served in that role last season when Uehara was removed from the closer's role in early September. Mujica's career in Boston started dismally, but he was quite effective in the second half of the season, posting a 1.78 ERA with six saves in 29 games after the All-Star break.

Mujica picked up the save Friday night, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in a win over Baltimore. He allowed one hit while throwing 12 of 15 pitches for strikes to record his seventh save in eight opportunities.
Mujica is the closer for now, though manager John Farrell had said he'd like to get Koji Uehara back in the closer's role before the end of the season.

Mujica turned in a perfect ninth inning to record his sixth save against the Royals on Friday night.
It was a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts on nine pitches - pretty much identical to his save on Thursday night. He followed Koji Uehara to the mound after Uehara tossed a clean eighth inning, but there has been no indication so far that the Red Sox are ready to give the closer's role back to Uehara just yet.

Mujica had an easy 1-2-3 ninth inning at Kansas City on Thursday to record his fifth save of the season.
Mujica didn't strike any batters out, but he needed only nine pitches to retire the side. It was a nice bounce-back outing, after he allowed two runs in a none-save situation Wednesday. He'll remain Boston's closer while Koji Uehara works in lower leverage situations.

Mujica was gave up two runs on four hits while striking out one in a non-save situation Wednesday against the Orioles.
The newly anointed closer gave up a double to Adam Jones to begin the frame and later allowed two more two-baggers before finally recording the final out for Boston. Mujica has seen just one save chance since taking over for Koji Uehara, but should be called upon to handle virtually any opportunity that presents itself over the final couple weeks. Even with his struggles Wednesday, Mujica still has a 2.21 ERA since the All-Star break.

Mujica recorded the final two outs of Saturday's victory to earn his fourth save of the season.
Drake Britton started the ninth inning after he pitched the eighth, but Mujica entered with one out to close the door despite issuing a free pass. For now, Mujica has surpassed Koji Uehara on the Red Sox's ninth-inning depth chart.
Fri Sep 5 201416:46Edward Mujica: New Red Sox Closer
Mujica has been moved to the closer role.
Mujica enjoyed a good deal of success as closer for the Cardinals last season, so the Red Sox will turn to him to replace the struggling Koji Uehara in the ninth inning. Although his overall numbers this season are still rather unsightly (4.13 ERA, 1.36 WHIP), Mujica has posted a 1.53 ERA and .242 BAA since the All-Star break. It's possible he could run away with the job, but Farrell did leave the door open for Uehara to reclaim the closer role before the end of the season.

Mujica made his eighth straight scoreless appearance in Tuesday night's win over the Reds. He picked up his second consecutive hold.
We never thought we'd see Mujica getting set up innings, but he's earned manager John Farrell's trust with his recent streak. In the past eight outings, Mujica's allowed four hits and one walk in 6.2 innings.

Thu Jun 5 201402:15Edward Mujica gives up homer to take loss
Edward Mujica gave up a three-run homer after getting just one out in the 12th inning Wednesday against the Indians.
That's five homers allowed for Mujica this year. He's been terribly ineffective in the first season of a two-year, $9 million contract, amassing a 7.29 ERA to date. Furthermore, he doesn't have a single hold in his 22 appearances.

Thu Apr 17 201401:49Edward Mujica takes blown save
Edward Mujica took a blown save after giving up a run in the 10th inning Wednesday against the White Sox.
Last year, Mujica took his first loss and blown save of the season on July 4. By that time, he had already pitched 34 1/3 innings. This year, he already has one of each. One wonders how much longer he'll be trusted as Koji Uehara's fallback.

Fri Apr 11 201422:32Edward Mujica notches save against Yankees
Edward Mujica -- not Koji Uehara -- pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch a save against the Yankees on Friday.
Uehara experienced some slight shoulder soreness while playing catch Friday, so the Red Sox decided to hold him out. It's being called precautionary and there are no plans to send him for tests right now, but Mujica will close until he's ready to return. Pick him up where available in fantasy leagues.

Tue Feb 25 201412:48Mujica, Miller insurance at closer for BoSox
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Tuesday that Edward Mujica and possibly Andrew Miller would be the first choices to close if Koji Uehara is unavailable.
Mujica functioned as the Cardinals' closer for most of last season, so it's not surprising that Farrell considers him next in line for saves. However, Miller's control would likely prevent him from being trusted as a full-time closer. Of course, the Red Sox are hoping that Uehara will stay healthy for the entire season.

Sat Dec 7 201314:04Edward Mujica says shoulder is perfectly fine
Jason Mastrodonato of Masslive.com reports that Edward Mujica declared his shoulder "100 percent fine".
Mujica underwent a physical on Thursday after reaching an agreement with the Red Sox, and it doesn't appear that there were any red flags to prevent the deal from happening. The 29-year-old hurler dealt with shoulder fatigue near the end of the regular season, but it doesn't seem like it will be an issue moving forward. Expect Mujica to be second in line for saves in what's shaping up to be a very strong Red Sox bullpen.

Red Sox signed Edward Mujica to a two-year, $9.5 million contract.
