Sun Nov 20 201115:1710 teams interested in Jonathan Broxton
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that more than 10 teams have shown interest and requested medicals on free agent reliever Jonathan Broxton.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reported earlier this month that the Blue Jays were one of the teams interested in the right-hander. Broxton is two months removed from minor elbow surgery but has been able to work out and is a week away from starting a throwing program. He's coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons but could be a nice buy-low candidate.

Fri Nov 11 201114:36Blue Jays interested in Jonathan Broxton
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Blue Jays are among the 6-8 teams that have shown interest in free agent reliever Jonathan Broxton and have asked for his medical records.
Broxton, who is seven weeks removed from minor elbow surgery, has been lifting weights and plans to start throwing in two weeks. If he proves to be healthy, he could wind up being a free agent bargain, but there's certainly risk attached to him after posted back-to-back disappointing seasons and missing most of this past year due to injury.

Mon Sep 19 201114:29Jonathan Broxton undergoes elbow surgery
Jonathan Broxton underwent minor surgery Monday to remove loose bodies from his throwing elbow.
The procedure was deemed a success, as almost every surgery in the baseball world is. Broxton should be ready to begin full offseason workouts after about two months of rehab. He'll become a free agent this winter.

Fri Sep 16 201119:28Broxton to undergo minor elbow surgery
Jonathan Broxton will undergo minor elbow surgery Monday in order to shave down a bone spur and remove loose bodies.
Already shut down for the season, Broxton will need six weeks of recovery time, so he should be able to have a relatively normal offseason. A pending free agent, it will be interesting to see what kind of deal the former elite closer can get. His agent has even admitted that the big right-hander won't throw as hard as he used to.

Fri Sep 16 201116:45Broxton considering minor elbow surgery
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, Jonathan Broxton is considering minor surgery on his right elbow.
The procedure would include shaving down a bone spur and remove loose bodies from the elbow. Broxton will need about six weeks to recover if he undergoes the procedure, which should give him plenty of time to get ready for spring training. Still, the 27-year-old right-hander will likely have to settle for an incentive-laden contract as a free agent this winter.

Fri Sep 16 201112:09Broxton open to Dodgers return
Jonathan Broxton's agent BB Abbott says his client would be open to returning to the Dodgers next season.
Broxton is set to hit the open market after making $7 million as he was limited to just 12 2/3 innings this season thanks to elbow issues. Bizarrely, Abbott also said "the days of Jonathan Broxton throwing 99 and 100 (MPH) might be over." He did add "(Broxton) is still going to be 93-97 (MPH)," but it's a strange way to pump up his client's value heading into a critical offseason. More than likely, Broxton has thrown his final pitch as a Dodger.

Mon Sep 12 201121:23Dodgers finally rule out Broxton for the year
The Dodgers have ruled out Jonathan Broxton (elbow) for the remainder of the season.
This news was a long time coming. Broxton hadn't pitched in a major league game since May 3 due to complications with his throwing elbow and the Dodgers weren't in a position to hurry him back. "It's a matter of the calendar," medical-services director Stan Conte said. "Our objective now is to make sure that at the end of the season, he can do his normal throwing program in the offseason and get ready for spring training." There's a good chance he'll be at camp with another club, because Broxton is set to become a free agent and it looks like LA has found his replacement in Javy Guerra. Broxton had a 5.68 ERA and 1.89 WHIP through 14 appearances before the Dodgers shut him down. It'll be interesting to see who shows interest in the talented but combustible right-hander over the winter.

Tue Aug 30 201110:21Broxton (elbow) still hoping to return in '11
The Dodgers believe Jonathan Broxton (elbow) will be able to return before the end of the season.
Broxton hasn't pitched in a major league game since May 3 due to complications with his throwing elbow, but he's now begun light flat-ground workouts and should be cleared to begin tossing bullpen sessions by early next week. The righty had a 5.68 ERA and 1.89 WHIP through 14 appearances before the Dodgers shut him down.

Tue Aug 9 201123:20Broxton (elbow) still a while away
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) threw for the second straight day Tuesday, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that he is unlikely to contribute at the major league level until late in the season.
"I don't think it's really anything anymore," said Mattingly. "He's moving forward. It's kind of the beginning of a process." Broxton likely won't be ready for a rehab assignment until the minor league season is over, which means he will have to prepare for his return via simulated games and appearances in the instructional league. We won't see the impending free agent until late-September, if at all, so he is worth dropping in most single-season fantasy leagues.

Tue Aug 2 201101:21Broxton (elbow) nearing throwing program
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is about a week away from beginning a throwing program.
The Dodgers pushed Broxton back a week after he was still feeling some discomfort in his elbow. "It's 95 percent gone, but it needs to be 100 percent gone before he throws," said Dodgers trainer Stan Conte. "We anticipate him throwing Sunday or Monday. There's still a minimum amount of discomfort." The big right-hander hasn't pitched for the Dodgers since May 3. There's no current timetable for his return.

Tue Jul 19 201111:10Jonathan Broxton (elbow) does arm exercises
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) did arm exercises Monday.
Broxton was shut down at the end of June after feeling renewed discomfort in his throwing elbow. The Dodgers still can't be sure when he'll be ready to begin a throwing program. "The last thing I heard was he wasn't going to throw until he's symptom-free or pain-free and I don't think he's there yet," manager Don Mattingly said.

Mon Jun 27 201110:23Broxton (elbow) won't be back this weekend
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is no longer expected to return for this weekend's series against the Angels.
Broxton felt pain in his elbow Sunday while playing catch at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and was scratched from his second scheduled rehab appearance. The Dodgers aren't sure when he'll be ready to pitch again in minor league games. "He felt stiffness in the same spot," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "We're going to give him a day and see what happens ... It kind of tells you that he's not quite ready."

Jonathan Broxton was scratched from his rehab appearance with Triple-A Albuquerque Sunday after his elbow stiffened up on him.
Broxton's fastball was down a few ticks in his last rehab appearance, and perhaps now we know why. The Dodgers have not provided any additional details at this point, but we'll be sure to update his status as soon as more information becomes available.

Sun Jun 26 201111:57Jonathan Broxton could return by Friday
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list as early as Friday.
Broxton will pitch in back-to-back rehab games on Sunday and Monday and evidently will need at least one more appearance after that before possibly being activated. His velocity was down just a bit in his last appearance, but the Dodgers aren't concerned. Broxton will not regain his closer job immediately, so go ahead and keep him on your bench for at least one more week.

Sat Jun 25 201111:46Jonathan Broxton's velocity down a bit
Jonathan Broxton's (elbow) velocity in his rehab appearance Thursday was down from 95 mph to 93 mph.
It's not a big drop, but the Dodgers will give the big right-hander a couple days off before having him resume his rehab. He could return to the mound as early as Sunday. The original plan had him pitching Sunday and Monday before likely being activated from the disabled list, but it's possible his return could now be pushed back a bit.

Fri Jun 24 201119:32Broxton to make two more rehab appearances
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) will pitch for High-A Rancho Cucamongo on Sunday and Monday.
If the back-to-back appearances go well, the odds are good the Dodgers will then activate him from the disabled list. Broxton will be eased back into the closer's role but should be pitching the ninth inning before the All-Star break.

Thu Jun 23 201122:12Broxton fans three in rehab inning
Jonathan Broxton (elbow) tossed a scoreless rehab inning Thursday for Triple-A Albuquerque.
Broxton allowed a hit to the first batter he faced but rattled off three straight strikeouts to get out of the frame. The Dodgers are expected to activate him within the next week and could swiftly promote him back to the ninth inning role. He has a 5.68 ERA in 14 appearances.

Wed Jun 22 201114:58Mattingly: Broxton will get closer job back
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Jonathan Broxton (elbow) will eventually regain his job as the Dodgers closer.
Broxton allowed a run over one inning in his first rehab appearance Tuesday, but Mattingly was encouraged because the reliever was hitting 94-97 mph on the radar gun. He'll appear in another game Thursday before being reevaluated. Mattingly plans to ease Broxton back into the role, but he still sees the big right-hander as his best ninth-inning option. "I think we'll try to get him into some games first," Mattingly said. "(But) I think it would be best (for him to close) if he is throwing the ball the way he is capable of. Again, right now, we have to get him in there and see what it looks like."
