Thu Jul 5 201220:34Royals willing to trade Jonathan Broxton
According to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Royals have "signaled to teams" that they are willing to trade close Jonathan Broxton.
The Royals enter play Thursday at 36-44, eight games out of first place in the American League Central, so they look like obvious sellers. Broxton has bounced back from elbow surgery to post a 2.05 ERA, 20 saves and a 23/12 K/BB ratio over 30 2/3 innings this year. He's only owed about $2 million for the rest of the season. Morosi and Rosenthal speculate that the Mets could be among his potential suitors.

Sat Jun 16 201200:43Broxton shuts down Cards for 16th save
Jonathan Broxton shut down the Cardinals on Friday, earning his 16th save of the season.
While he isn't the dominating force that he once was, Broxton has actually been pretty solid as the Royals closer this year. He's now converted 16-of-18 save opportunities to go along with his 1.46 ERA.

Sat May 26 201220:16Jonathan Broxton nails down his ninths save
Jonathan Broxton earned his ninth save in Saturday's win over the Orioles.
Broxton came in to protect a 4-3 lead and worked around a leadoff single by inducing three straight groundball outs. He's now converted eight of his last nine save chances and has a 2.04 ERA on the season. Broxton has significant job security right now.

Thu May 17 201200:47Jonathan Broxton blows second save of season
Jonathan Broxton blew his second save of the season in Wednesday's 15-inning loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on four hits in the ninth inning.
Tasked with protecting a 3-1 lead, Broxton allowed a one-out solo shot to Wilson Betemit before serving up three singles (one of which plated the tying run) in between recording the final two outs. An ugly outing, but Broxton had converted seven straight save opportunities with relatively little fuss coming into this evening. His job isn't in danger.

Mon May 14 201223:14Jonathan Broxton nails down another one
Jonathan Broxton converted his seventh straight save chance Monday, giving up a hit but striking out two in a win over the Rangers.
Broxton has made a stunning turnaround after he blew up in a blown save back on April 11 when he looked like he wouldn't be long for the job. Since then, he's allowed just one run over 11 appearances while nailing down all of his save chances. His job is very secure right now.

Thu May 3 201223:37Broxton slams door to pick up fifth save
Jonathan Broxton allowed the first two Yankees to reach in the ninth inning on Thursday, but battled back to slam the door and pick up his fifth save of the season.
After Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson reached to start the night, Broxton was able to induce Mark Teixeira to ground into a double play and then retire Alex Rodriguez on a groundout to third after a lengthy at-bat. While he's not the same intimidating and dominating force that he was as a Dodger, Broxton appears to be settling into his role as the closer in Kansas City, and his job security is on the rise.

Sat Apr 28 201211:13Broxton not available for Saturday's game
Royals manager Ned Yost said Jonathon Broxton will be unavailable to close Saturday.
He'll get the day off after closing out the last two games. The Royals will likely go with Aaron Crow or Tim Collins in a late-inning role, depending on the matchup.

Thu Apr 26 201215:13Broxton earns second save
Jonathan Broxton earned his second save of the season in Thursday's defeat of the Indians.
Broxton yielded a single to Jason Kipnis and walked Michael Brantley in the bottom of the ninth inning but was able to escape. His ERA is down to 2.70, and his leash on the ninth-inning job continues to grow with Greg Holland (ribs) still on the shelf.

Fri Apr 13 201212:46Broxton still the closer in Kansas City
Royals manager Ned Yost says he didn't consider stripping Jonathan Broxton of closing duties following his disastrous blown save Wednesday.
"I talked to Broxton today, and he just lost command of his fastball," Yost said Thursday. "But he's a two-time All-Star, and he has really rebounded nicely from this arm surgery. He's got his velocity back up to 97, 98, with an 86-, 87-mph slider, which is a killer, hard slider." That's all good and well, but Broxton hasn't been sharp in two of his first three outings. Greg Holland remains a must-handcuff, and is worth a speculative own in all formats.

Wed Apr 11 201220:28Jonathan Broxton turns in ugly blown save
Jonathan Broxton blew a save in ugly fashion Wednesday, giving up two runs in the 12th against the A's.
Both runs were unearned, as the rally started with Seth Smith reaching on an Alcides Escobar error with one out. Still, what happened afterwards was discouraging. Broxton walked two, gave up a game-tying groundout and then hit back-to-back batters, with the second one forcing in the winning run. Greg Holland was pretty stellar in his two innings today, striking out three of the six batters he faced. Broxton will probably get a little more rope, but it figures to become Holland's job at some point.

Sat Apr 7 201219:00Broxton shaky in season debut
Royals closer Jonathan Broxton was a little shaky in his season debut allowing a run on two hits in his inning of work.
Kendrys Morales lead off the inning with a double and after a single came around to score on a Bobby Abreu sacrifice fly. He induced a Vernon Wells double play to escape further damage and end the game. Greg Holland looked shaky in his debut Friday, so there is no immediate danger to his closer's job.

Thu Apr 5 201218:00Broxton to open season as Royals' closer
Royals manager Ned Yost said Thursday that Jonathan Broxton will open the season as the team's primary closer.
Not unexpected, as Broxton has previous closer experience and posted a 1.13 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over eight innings this spring following offseason elbow surgery. There are still injury concerns, but he should be owned wherever available. Greg Holland looms as a potential alternative down the road.

Thu Mar 29 201211:39Royals 'leaning toward' Broxton for closer
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com writes that the Royals are "leaning toward" Jonathan Broxton for their vacant closer job.
The Royals haven't tipped their hand on a replacement for Joakim Soria (elbow) yet, but Broxton has previous "closer experience" and has looked good this spring following elbow surgery, posting a 1.50 ERA and 7/3 K/BB ratio over six innings. Still, there are obvious injury concerns and Greg Holland is the better bet for the long-term.

Thu Mar 8 201210:45Broxton to pitch in B-game Sunday vs. Rangers
Jonathan Broxton is scheduled to make his spring debut Sunday in a B-game against the Rangers.
It will be his first game action since undergoing elbow surgery last September. The 27-year-old right-hander signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Royals in November and is expected to pitch in a set-up role this season.

Tue Nov 29 201111:20Broxton's deal carries $1M in incentives
Jonathan Broxton's one-year, $4 million contract with the Royals carres $1 million worth of incentives.
In other words, Broxton can earn a total of $5 million if everything goes right for him in Kansas City next year. The 27-year-old right-hander posted an ugly 5.68 ERA in 12 2/3 innings this past season for Los Angeles and a 4.04 ERA over 62 1/3 innings in 2010, but the hope is that he will be able to bounce back to his days of dominance with good health and a low-pressure setup role.

Tue Nov 29 201110:12Broxton gets one-year, $4M deal from Royals
Jonathan Broxton's new one-year deal with the Royals is worth $4 million, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.
The contract will be finalized on Wednesday after Broxton passes his pre-signing physical. He's going to be used as a setup man in Kansas City, according to Heyman, meaning Joakim Soria is likely to remain firmly entrenched in the team's ninth-inning role. Broxton, 27, registered a rough 5.68 ERA in 12 2/3 innings this past year for the Dodgers while dealing with elbow issues. He'll be looking to get his career back on track in KC.

Tue Nov 29 201109:31Report: Royals, Broxton reach one-year deal
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Royals have reached a one-year deal with Jonathan Broxton.
The agreement will be finalized once Broxton passes a physical. Rosenthal suggests that the signing could pave the way for Joakim Soria's transition to the starting rotation, but Broxton has not been a reliable closer since the early part of the 2010 season and it seems doubtful that Kansas City would trust him with that role out of the gate. The big right-hander posted a 5.68 ERA across 12 2/3 innings this past year while battling elbow issues.

Mon Nov 28 201115:16Report: Rox discussed Broxton as option
The Rockies have discussed free agent reliever Jonathan Broxton if they trade Huston Street, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com.
The Rangers also talked to Broxton prior to signing Joe Nathan. Broxton is close to making a decision on where he will play next season, according to his agent BB Abbott. He has all but ruled out returning to the Dodgers or signing with the Mets. The Marlins, Blue Jays and Rays are all possibilities, though Broxton has garnered interest from more than 10 clubs.

Mon Nov 28 201113:34Jon Broxton will not return to the Dodgers
Free agent reliever Jonathan Broxton has ruled out returning to the Dodgers.
"He will not be back in L.A.," Broxton's agent BB Abbott said. Earlier this offseason, Broxton said he was open to returning to the Dodgers, but talks must have broken down. "He had multiple suitors and we should have something tentative in the next few days," Abbott said. We know that more than 10 teams have kicked the tires on Broxton and that the veteran reliever would prefer to sign with a team close to his home state of Georgia. Broxton hasn't been effective since the beginning of the 2010 season, so he'll likely have to settle for a one-year deal heavy in incentives.

Sun Nov 27 201121:59Agent: Broxton to sign soon, not with Mets
BB Abbott, the agent of free agent reliever Jonathan Broxton, doesn't believe his client will sign with the Mets but speculates that Broxton will ink a new deal soon.
Jon Heyman of SI.com reported last week that more than 10 teams have shown interest and requested medicals on Broxton. The Blue Jays have frequently been mentioned as a potential landing spot. Broxton is two months removed from minor elbow surgery but has been able to work out and will begin a throwing program shortly. He's coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons but could be a nice buy-low candidate.
