Peacock will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery last week to remove bone spurs that were pinching a nerve near his spine, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.

He pitched one game this season after dealing with what was originally described as a right intercostal strain. The issue seems to have been addressed via surgery, however, and the Astros are confident that Peacock can return symptom free and healthy for the start of 2016.

Peacock (ribs) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Thursday.

Peacock continues to work back from a rib injury, but the team has not provided a timetable for his return since he suffered a setback in mid-June.

Peacock (ribs) will undergo an MRI on Friday, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Peacock was trending toward a return to the Astros earlier this month, but he's since ceased his throwing program after suffering a setback with his rib injury during a rehab assignment June 12. The scan is just a measure to ensure that Peacock isn't dealing with any sort of structural damage, so if the MRI comes back clean, he would then receive a cortisone shot and start ramping up his activities again in short order.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch believes Peacock (ribs), who recently suffered a setback, will need to rest for a while, the Houston Chronicle's Jose de Jesus Ortiz reports.

Peacock suffered a setback during Thursday's rehab start for Double-A Corpus Christi, and he'll visit a back specialist Tuesday afternoon. He struck out two batters over two scoreless innings in the rehab outing, but he now seems unlikely to rejoin the Astros before the end of June. Vincent Velasquez and Brett Oberholtzer should thus be safe in their rotation spots for at least a couple more weeks.

Peacock (ribs) suffered a setback in his first rehab start and will be reevaluated, the Houston Chronicle's Evan Drellich reports.

It is not clear how serious the setback is, but he returned to Houston this weekend to be be checked out by team doctors. This gives Brett Oberholtzer some extra time to pitch without looking over his shoulder, as his was the rotation spot Peacock was coming for. Consider Peacock out indefinitely for now.

Peacock will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Corpus Christi, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.

He will likely need to make several rehab starts, especially considering there is not an obvious pitcher for him to replace in the big league rotation. Still, these things typically figure themselves out, and Peacock could be pitching in the Astros' rotation by the end of the month.
