Sun Aug 3 201410:49Pena out of lineup Sunday
Pena is out of the lineup Sunday vs. the Marlins, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Fri Aug 1 201409:56The Reds used Pena behind plate ahead of Devin Mesoraco on Thurs...
The Reds used Pena behind the plate ahead of Devin Mesoraco on Thursday because Johnny Cueto was pitching. He's been Cueto's catcher for most of the season.
This despite Mesoraco being a superior hitter and Pena getting lots of playing time at first base recently. "If you mean am I going to override the offense with starting pitching productivity, yeah I think so. I think I am," manager Bryan Price said. "I know that we've been struggling to score runs and Devin is on a nice little stretch right here, but I think I need to prioritize the starting pitching. It's a good relationship."
Fri Jul 18 201421:59Pena clubs two homers in loss to Yankees
Brayan Pena clubbed two solo home runs in a loss to the Yankees on Friday.
Who needs Joey Votto, anyway? Filling in at first base on Friday, Pena is now the second player in Reds' history with a multi-homer game at Yankee Stadium. The other? Johnny Bench in Game 4 of the 1976 World Series. Pena doesn't inspire much enthusiasm in fantasy leagues, but he could be worth a shot in two-catcher NL-only leagues if the playing time is there.

Pena's two-out single proved to be the difference. The 32-year-old has done a respectable job as Devin Mesoraco's backup this season, batting .257 with three home runs and a . 675 OPS over 63 games.

Brayan Pe¤a (forearm) is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday.
Pena was dealing with soreness in his right forearm even before going on paternity leave, and he then sat out both games of Tuesday's doubleheader. The Reds are expected to use him as their primary first baseman while Joey Votto (quad) is out. "We were planning on giving him a couple of days of TLC, which he was able to get at home with his wife and new daughter, but I'd love to have him not do much for another day," manager Bryan Price said between games Tuesday. "I think it's a lot more probable that you'll see him more involved beginning (Wednesday)."

Brayan Pena was a late scratch from the Reds' starting lineup Saturday versus the Brewers.
He's a little banged up, but it should be nothing to worry about. "Pena is a usable piece today. It's nothing extreme," said Reds manager Bryan Price. "It just made more sense to have the guy that's closer to 100 percent behind the plate." Devin Mesoraco will get the start in his place.

Tue Apr 22 201422:06Pena has two hits, swipes second bag in win
Brayan Pena went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base as the Reds defeated the Pirates on Tuesday.
Pena got the start behind the dish to give Devin Mesoraco, who had caught four consecutive games, a breather. He rewarded the Reds with a couple of singles and his second stolen base of the season. Entering the season, Pena hadn't stolen a base since 2010. All in all, a nice night for the backup catcher.

Mon Apr 7 201420:15Brayan Pe¤a picks up three hits Monday
Brayan Pe¤a went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Monday's loss to the Cardinals.
Pena cranked a couple doubles to the wall off a Michael Wacha and then ripped a single off of Carlos Martinez, so it wasn't as if his big day was a cheapie. His only misstep of the day was when he inexplicably tried to steal a base off Yadier Molina, though it's possible Billy Hamilton missed a hit-and-run sign. With Devin Mesoraco back, Pena's playing time is about to be cut.
