Pena is out of the lineup Sunday vs. the Marlins, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Pena, who typically mans first base these days with Joey Votto on the disabled list, will just be picking up some rest during Sunday's afternoon affair. Todd Frazier will move over from his usual post at third base to cover first for Pena.

The Reds used Pena behind the plate ahead of Devin Mesoraco on Thursday because Johnny Cueto was pitching. He's been Cueto's catcher for most of the season.

This despite Mesoraco being a superior hitter and Pena getting lots of playing time at first base recently. "If you mean am I going to override the offense with starting pitching productivity, yeah I think so. I think I am," manager Bryan Price said. "I know that we've been struggling to score runs and Devin is on a nice little stretch right here, but I think I need to prioritize the starting pitching. It's a good relationship."

"We were planning on giving him a couple of days of TLC, which he was able to get at home with his wife and new daughter, but I'd love to have him not do much for another day," manager Bryan Price said between games Tuesday. "I think it's a lot more probable that you'll see him more involved beginning (Wednesday)."

With Devin Mesoraco back, Pena's playing time is about to be cut.
