He is 6-9 with a 4.45 ERA in 22 career starts versus his former team, throwing seven one-run innings on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in his season debut against them April 3. Santana is 7-7 with a 3.51 ERA in 29 starts at Kaufman Stadium. Eric Hosmer is 8-for-26 (.308) with three homers and 11 RBIs against Santana and Alex Gordon is 9-for-43 (.209) with two homers and five RBIs.

"Ervin did what he does. He made pitches to get us off the field," said Manager Paul Molitor. He really cranked it up (his fastball) pretty good a couple of times. And he's able to maintain his poise in rough waters." Said Santana: "I just tried to make my pitches and keep the ball down." In three starts against Cleveland this year Santana is 2-0, with a 0.67 ERA.

It's the third time in his last four starts that Santana has allowed two or more home runs. He's given up seven homers in the month of June, the most he's allowed in a month since he gave up nine in May of 2013.

The three RBIs equaled his previous career total and were the most for a Twins pitcher since RHP Luis Tiant had three against the Milwaukee Brewers in 1970. He always worked hard and you can tell. He's The Machine. It's a good thing for our country."

RHP Ervin Santana will start Saturday against the Angels, having one of his best career seasons this year at age 34. He's 7-2 with a league-best 1.75 ERA, two complete games and two shutouts. The seven wins have already matched last year's total when he went 7-11 in 30 starts. But it wasn't that he pitched that poorly -- his ERA was 3.38. This year, the Twins are a better team all around, and as for Santana, his years in the league have given him the experience that makes anybody better.
