Grimm (forearm) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is close to appearing in a minor league game, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Though there's no exact timetable for a major league return, it's still an encouraging development as it appears Grimm's inflammation that landed him on the DL may be subsiding. Once a clearer schedule for the rehab assignment becomes available, Grimm's big league timetable likely won't be too far behind.

Grimm (forearm) has begun rehabbing at extended spring training in Arizona, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
Grimm was diagnosed with inflammation just days after the season began, preventing him from making any appearances before landing on the DL. It's not apparent what kind of timeline the right-hander is on for his recovery, so his return probably shouldn't be considered imminent until he starts facing hitters again.

Grimm (elbow inflammation) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to April 2.

Sun Apr 5 201508:58Grimm earned last spot in Cubs' bullpen
Grimm earned the last spot in the Cubs' bullpen, the team's official site reports.
Grimm was battling the likes of Drake Britton, Zac Rosscup, and Brian Schlitter for the spot. He didn't pitch particularly well this spring, but he had 11 holds for the Cubs last year and should be used in the middle innings again in 2015.

Grimm pitched a scoreless inning Sunday and is in contention for one of the remaining spots in the bullpen, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
The Cubs are expected to have seven pitchers in their bullpen, and with Hector Rondon, Pedro Strop, Neil Ramirez, Jason Motte, and either Travis Wood or Edwin Jackson already locked in, there are probably only two spots up for grabs. Grimm missed time this spring with food poisoning, but he probably has the inside track for one of those jobs.

Grimm pitched a scoreless inning against the Angels on Thursday.
Grimm has been quiet this spring - Thursday's appearance was his first in nearly two weeks. He's expected to be an imporant part of the Cubs' bullpen, but he's pretty far down in the pecking order for saves.

Justin Grimm will compete for a bullpen job.
Grimm has served as a starter in the past, but the Cubs have enough rotation candidates and will ask the right-hander to fight for a middle relief spot. The 25-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Rangers last July as part of the Matt Garza trade.

Cubs acquired RHP Justin Grimm from the Rangers in the Matt Garza deal.
Grimm has posted a 6.37 ERA in 17 starts with the Rangers this season, but he's only 24 and could eventually develop into a solid back-end of the rotation starter. He'll report to Triple-A Iowa for now but will be an option for the Cubs' rotation later this season.

Mon Jul 22 201317:32Rangers trading Justin Grimm to Cubs
Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Cubs will also receive right-hander Justin Grimm in the Matt Garza deal.
Grimm has a 6.37 ERA in 17 starts with the Rangers this season, but he's only 24 years old and was ranked as the Rangers' No. 5 prospect by Baseball America over the winter. Passan hears that the Cubs will also receive Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards, and a player to be named later. It's a pretty nice haul for a player who will be a free agent following the season.

Fri Jul 12 201320:56Grimm struggles before leaving with injury
Justin Grimm struggled mightily in Friday's loss to the Tigers, and eventually departed in the fourth inning due to to right forearm soreness.
The injury isn't believed to be serious, and he was removed for precautionary reasons. During his time in the ballgame, Grimm surrendered seven runs on 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings of work. He walked two and struck out three in the rough outing. The first six Tigers reached base to start the game, with five of them coming around to score before the frame was over. He now owns a 6.37 ERA and 1.65 WHIP on the season, and may not get another start for the Rangers.

Tue Jul 2 201323:55Justin Grimm lit up by Mariners
Justin Grimm was rocked for six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits and two walks over just four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners.
Grimm struck out just one and allowed three homers on the night, including back-to-back shots by Raul Ibanez and Kendrys Morales in the first. The right-hander has seen his ERA rise from 3.93 to 5.84 over his last six starts and surely would have been booted from the rotation by now had the Rangers not had so many injuries. He's currently in line to get the ball again this weekend at home against the Astros.

The win moved Grimm to 7-5 and he's now won his last two starts. He allowed six hits without walking a batter on Wednesday, striking out four. When the Rangers starters get healthy Grimm might be a candidate for a move to the bullpen, but for now he'll likely remain in the rotation. His next start will come Tuesday against the Mariners.

Fri Jun 14 201323:06Grimm gives up seven runs in loss to Jays
Justin Grimm was tagged for a career-high seven runs in 7 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
It was the longest outing of his career, but it wasn't pretty. He gave up 10 hits (including two homers) while walking two and fanning four. Grimm's ERA has increased from 3.93 to 5.59 over the span of his last three outings. The Rangers figure to stick with him for the time being, but he's not an option in mixed fantasy leagues. He currently lines up to face the first-place Athletics next week at home.

Sun Jun 9 201316:33Justin Grimm struggles in no-decision
Justin Grimm didn't pitch well but escaped with a no-decision Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings in a 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays.
Grimm managed to notch six strikeouts, but he was undone by a poor third inning when the Jays tallied three hits, a walk and all four of their runs. After a great April, Grimm has been hit-or-miss since the beginning of May. He'll bring an uninspiring 5.25 ERA and 1.57 WHIP into a rematch with the Blue Jays next weekend.
