Tue Jun 4 201322:25Grimm chased early as Red Sox trounce Rangers
Justin Grimm lasted just 1 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Tuesday, allowing eight runs in the Rangers' loss.
The right-hander's ERA was 3.93 going into the game and 5.13 upon his exit, so it's fair to say he had a rough night. Of the seven hits he allowed, five were for extra bases, including a triple by David Ortiz and a Jackie Bradley Jr. home run. He'll start again Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Sat May 25 201301:40Justin Grimm gives up three runs in win
Justin Grimm won after allowing three runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings versus the Mariners on Friday.
With some help from Jeff Nelson. Grimm intercepted an attempted 3-6-3 double-play relay in the second inning tonight while first baseman Mitch Moreland was still reaching for the ball. Nelson never realized that the pitcher, not the first baseman, caught the ball and gave the Rangers the out. It proved to be an especially big play when Brendan Ryan followed with a rare double. Were the call gotten right, it doesn't seem nearly so likely that Grimm would have pitched into the seventh inning tonight.

Tue May 14 201302:21Grimm shelled for second consecutive outing
Justin Grimm was bombed for five earned runs over five innings in his second consecutive start Monday, taking a loss against the A's.
He had the same line Tuesday against the Brewers. The one bit of good news for the former fifth-round pick was that he didn't allow a first-inning run after having struggled with that frame all season. Grimm surrendered a pair of homers, two walks and seven hits while striking out three. In his last two starts, Grimm's ERA has jumped from 2.28 to 4.23 and his WHIP has gone from 1.27 to 1.49. We expect Grimm's ERA to keep rising, but he's a decent enough option in AL-only leagues.

Tue May 7 201323:19Grimm yields five runs as Rangers lose in MIL
Justin Grimm was shelled for five earned runs in five innings Tuesday as the Rangers fell to the Brewers.
Grimm ran into big problems right out of the gate, yielding five hits and all five runs in the top of the first inning. He settled in after that and wound up with a cool seven strikeouts, but his ERA jumped from 2.28 to 3.45 and his WHIP went from 1.27 to 1.43. The young right-hander can't be trusted in mixed fantasy leagues.

Thu May 2 201323:13Justin Grimm strikes out nine in first loss
Justin Grimm surrendered three runs in 6 2/3 innings in taking his first loss Thursday to the White Sox.
He did strike out nine in the game. Grimm was the AL Rookie of the Month for April because of three good starts against the Mariners (twice) and Twins. Now that the Rangers' schedule is getting more difficult, Grimm's ERA should keep rising. He's a decent enough option in AL-only lagues, though.

Sun Apr 21 201318:38Grimm strikeouts nine in win over Seattle
Justin Grimm allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and had a career-high nine strikeouts over six innings in Sunday's win over the Mariners.
Grimm took a no-decision in his first matchup with Seattle, but he was able to bounce back for a quality start. With Matt Harrison (back) likely sidelined until after the All-Star break, Grimm can solidify a spot in the Rangers' rotation. The 24-year-old has shown good strikeout potential so far this season and could be worth a flier in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Fri Apr 12 201320:11Rangers could push Grimm back with off day
With an off day scheduled on Monday, the Rangers are considering pushing back Justin Grimm's next start.
Grimm pitched decently in his first outing in place of the injured Matt Harrison, but all things being equal they would prefer to give their regular starters as much work as possible. However, if Yu Darvish's blister issue continues to persist during Friday's start, it could be him who is pushed back instead of Grimm.

Fri Apr 12 201302:07Grimm lasts just four innings in no-decision
Justin Grimm gave up two runs in four innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Mariners.
Starting in place of Matt Harrison, Grimm gave up five hits (including a leadoff homer by Franklin Gutierrez) and three walks while striking out a pair. He needed 92 pitches just to make it through four innings. The 24-year-old right-hander will likely stick around for a couple more starts, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect much.

Thu Apr 11 201315:39Rangers recall Justin Grimm from AAA
Rangers recalled RHP Justin Grimm from Triple-A Round Rock.
Grimm will make a spot start on Thursday night against the Mariners in place of the injured Matt Harrison. The 24-year-old may be a good streamer in AL-only formats.

Wed Apr 10 201312:41Grimm to be called up Thursday
Justin Grimm will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to start Thursday against the Mariners.
He'll take the place of Matt Harrison, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a lower back strain. Grimm struggled in his first taste of the majors last season and failed to secure a rotation spot this spring, but he owns a 3.07 ERA in the minors to go along with some solid peripherals. The 24-year-old right-hander could be worth a short-term look in AL-only leagues.

Fri Mar 22 201311:50Justin Grimm optioned
Rangers optioned RHP Justin Grimm to Triple-A Round Rock; reassigned RHP Randy Wells to minor league camp.
The moves mean Nick Tepesch has essentially locked up the fifth spot in the rotation. Grimm posted an ugly 9.64 ERA and 2.25 WHIP over four spring appearances, while Wells had marks of 4.15 and 1.77, respectively. They'll now represent rotation depth at Triple-A.

Sun Mar 3 201319:09Justin Grimm implodes for six runs in start
Justin Grimm allowed six earned runs over 2 1/3 innings in Sunday's start against the Mariners.
Grimm served up a trio of doubles in the second inning and was pulled after a two-run homer to Jesus Montero. It was a bad performance for a pitcher trying to win a spot in the Opening Day rotation. We wouldn't be surprised if Grimm didn't make it past the Rangers' first round of cuts.

Sun Jul 29 201223:08Report: Royals interested in Texas' Grimm
The Royals are interested in Justin Grimm in a potential deal for closer Jon Broxton, according to the KC Star's Bob Dutton.
"Nothing firm at moment," Dutton writes. Grimm struggled through his three starts in the Rangers rotation, compiling a 1-1 record, 10.80 ERA and 2.00 WHIP through 10 innings of work. The 23-year-old has been great on the farm, however, as has talent. He'd likely plug into KC's rotation full-time in 2013 if acquired.

Rangers optioned RHP Justin Grimm to Double-A Frisco.
Grimm struggled through his three starts in the Rangers rotation, compiling a 1-1 record, 10.80 ERA and 2.00 WHIP through 10 innings of work. He'll take this valuable experience and use it to refine his game in the minor leagues until another opportunity arises.
