Tue May 6 201400:03Junior Lake has lone RBI in loss to White Sox
Junior Lake went 0-for-2 and drove home the Cubs only run with a sacrifice fly in Monday's loss to the White Sox.
The 24-year-old outfielder has had a rough go of it at the plate thus far, slashing .240/.266/.440 on the season. He has a decent blend of power and speed, and could be a mixed league option for the next few weeks while Ryan Sweeney is sidelined.

Sat May 3 201416:01Lake smacks two-run homer in victory
Junior Lake went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Cardinals.
Lake's sixth-inning blast was the only offense the Cubs could muster against Michael Wacha, but it was all they would need to secure the victory. The three hits were a season-high and raised his batting average 33 points from .217 to .250. The 24-year-old is intriguing from a fantasy perspective, but he has struck out 31 times in just 76 plate appearances this year.

Sat May 3 201410:36Junior Lake in Cubs starting lineup Saturday
Junior Lake is in the Cubs starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, playing left field and hitting eighth.
Lake is drawing the start against a right-hander in Michael Wacha, and could be in line for increased playing time in the Cubs outfield with the injury to Ryan Sweeney. He's been a huge disappointment thus far, hitting .217/.250/.377 with two homers, four RBI and three stolen bases.

Fri Apr 25 201423:27Junior Lake struggles mightily in loss Friday
Junior Lake struggled mightily in Friday's loss to the Brewers going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts.
He also misplayed a ball in the outfield in the first inning that led to the game's first run, and overthrew the cutoff man on multiple occasions. With the injury to Justin Ruggiano opening up additional playing time in the Cubs outfield, this isn't the best way for Lake to get in management's good graces.

Sat Apr 12 201418:01Lake launches home run against Cardinals
Junior Lake hit a leadoff homer Saturday against the Cardinals.
Lake took Adam Wainwright deep on the first pitch of the ballgame for his first home run of the young season. Hopefully he'll start to get more at-bats against right-handers moving forward. It's his best chance at providing any fantasy value.

Tue Mar 25 201419:18Lake blasts fourth spring homer vs. Angels
Junior Lake went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Angels on Tuesday.
Lake took Matt Shoemaker deep for a solo homer in the fifth inning, his fourth of the spring. Lake, who turns 24 on Thursday, has shown a good power stroke this spring, which the Cubs should expect to see frequently during the regular season.

Sun Mar 23 201423:01Junior Lake blasts three homers to lead Cubs
Junior Lake blasted three home runs on Sunday, powering the Cubs to a 10-6 victory over the Athletics.
Lake got the party started with a three-run blast to left off Jesse Chavez in the sixth inning. He then victimized Drew Pomeranz for a two-run shot his next time up, and capped off the impressive day with a solo homer off Fernando Nieve in the ninth inning. All told, he finished the day 3-for-5 with six RBI. He's slated for everyday playing time with the Cubs this season, and though his average could be a drain, his combination of power and speed make for an intriguing buying opportunity.

Sun Dec 15 201309:48Cubs shut down Lake from Winter League play
The Cubs have shut down Junior Lake from Dominican Winter League play.
They've invoked a "fatigue" clause in Lake's contract, preferring that the young outfielder get some rest before spring training. He was leading the league with a .343 batting average and was sixth with a .457 slugging percentage before the Cubs informed Estellas de Oriente they could no longer use the 23-year-old. Lake is likely to be in the Cubs' Opening Day lineup next season, whether it be in left or center field.

Sun Sep 22 201317:47Junior Lake strikes out four times
Junior Lake fanned all four times he was up Sunday against the Braves.
Lake is still hitting .314 in September and .299 overall, but it's hard to have high hopes for a guy with a 63/10 K/BB ratio in 224 at-bats and only middling power. He's fanned 14 times and gone without an RBI since his last walk on Sept. 10.

Fri Sep 6 201317:45Junior Lake's grand slam leads Cubs to win
Junior Lake hit his first career grand slam and singled Friday as the Cubs topped the Brewers 8-5.
Lake had four homers in his first 15 games with the Cubs, but he had gone without one in 29 games before taking Kyle Lohse deep today. He hadn't so much as driven in a run since Aug. 18. The Cubs figure to continue playing him regularly after trading away two-thirds of their outfield, but he shouldn't project as a regular headed into 2014.

Fri Aug 30 201317:29Junior Lake goes 0-for-5 in loss
Junior Lake went 0-for-5 on Friday and struck out at least twice for the fifth straight game.
That's not a good sign. Lake is 2-for-24 with 11 strikeouts and no walks over the course of the five games. Overall, he has a 44/7 K/BB ratio in 170 at-bats. The good times are already over for his owners. He'll likely finish out this season as a starting outfielder, but he projects as a utilityman going forward.

Sun Aug 25 201321:51Lake extends hitting streak to eight games
Junior Lake went 1-for-7 in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
Lake had an infield single in the 12th inning to extend his hitting streak to eight games and picked up his third stolen base. The 23-year-old rookie is batting .314/.348/.464 with four home runs and 11 RBI over 153 at-bats.

Sun Aug 18 201319:10Lake goes 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI
Junior Lake went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
Over the previous week Lake had gone 2-for-20 (.100), so Sunday's three-hit bonanza marked definitive progress. The 23-year-old enjoyed a brief stretch of fame last month, becoming the first Cubs player to hit safely in his first seven games since Jerome Walton in 1989. Lake has fallen off dramatically since that time, despite a still-shiny .308 average and .805 OPS, and should be relegated to NL-only formats.

Fri Aug 2 201300:25Junior Lake hits two homers for Cubs
Junior Lake hit his third and fourth homers as a major leaguer versus the Dodgers on Thursday.
Lake is showing surprising pop; his four homers in 62 major league at-bats matches his total from 156 minor league at-bats this season. His minor league high for homers in a season was 12 in 445 at-bats in 2011, so there's little reason to think this will keep up. He's going to be a fixture in the Cuns lineup for a while longer, though.

Fri Jul 26 201300:38Lake singles in loss to Diamondbacks
Junior Lake singled in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
It was his only hit in four at-bats on the night. Lake is now batting .484 (15-for-31) with two homers, three doubles, five RBI, and a stolen base through his first seven games in the majors. The 23-year-old the first Cubs player to hit safely in his first seven games in the majors since Jerome Walton in 1989. Cubs manager Dale Sveum has batted Lake first or second in each of the last four games, so he's well worth using in deeper mixed formats while he's hot.

Tue Jul 23 201301:09Junior Lake goes 4-for-5, homers to lead Cubs
Junior Lake went 4-for-5 and hit his first major league homer as the Cubs topped the Diamondbacks 4-2 on Monday.
Lake has made quite an impression by going 9-for-17 in four major league games. He's not going to be the Cubs' long-term answer in center field, but the team will surely stick with him there until he cools off.

Sat Jul 20 201300:17Lake goes 3-for-4 with double in MLB debut
In his major league debut on Friday, Junior Lake went 3-for-4 with a double and a steal in a win against the Rockies.
Lake was promoted earlier in the day after hitting .295/.341/.462 with four home runs and 14 stolen bases through 40 games in Triple-A. The 23-year-old, who missed the first two months of the season with a stress fracture of a rib, could ostensibly hit his way into regular playing time with a fast start. Conversely, he may only be up for a few days with David DeJesus (shoulder) due back soon. Either way, he's worth a flier in NL-only leagues.

Fri Jul 19 201315:25Junior Lake recalled from Triple-A
Cubs recalled INF/OF Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa.
Lake missed the first two months of the season with a stress fracture of a rib, but he's hitting .295/.341/.462 with four home runs and 14 stolen bases through 40 games in Triple-A. He might only be up for a few days, as David DeJesus (shoulder) is due back soon.

Thu Jul 18 201317:53Cubs expected to call up Junior Lake
The Cubs are expected to promote infielder Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa on Friday.
Brian Bogusevic aggravated his hamstring on Sunday, so Lake will presumably take his place on the active roster. The 23-year-old missed the first two months of the season with a stress fracture of a rib, but he's hitting .295/.341/.462 with four home runs and 14 stolen bases through 40 games in Triple-A. He could find his way into regular playing time between third base and the outfield, so give him a look in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Wed Mar 13 201313:11Cubs' Lake has stress fracture in rib
Cubs' prospect infielder Junior Lake will miss 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in the top rib on his right side.
Lake, who turns 24 later this month, batted .279/.341/.432 with 10 homers, 21 stolen bases and a .773 OPS in 103 games with Double-A Tennessee last season. He should be ready to return to game action by the end of April.
