McDermott (knee) remains a "couple weeks" away from returning, per coach Tom Thibodeau, Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago reports.

The rookie, who underwent surgery on Dec. 13, went through practice Tuesday but will take his rehabilitation slowly as he returns from a meniscus tear. Given how well the Bulls are playing, and the emergence of fellow-rookie Nikola Mirotic, Chicago really has no reason to rush McDermott back.

McDermott, who underwent surgery back on Dec. 13, will slowly increase his activity level as he works back into shape. Originally given a 6-to-8 week recovery timetable, McDermott recently stated that he thinks he'll be back in closer to six weeks, putting him on track for a late-January return.

McDermott started again Thursday as Mike Dunleavy was forced to miss another game due to injury. Although he didn't score much, McDermott was at least able to contribute on the glass. McDermott continues to get more minutes with the starting unit and Dunleavy is used to coming off of the bench, so don't be surprised to see McDermott in the starting lineup at some point even when Dunleavy is healthy.

McDermott scored 16 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT) to go along with five rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes Monday against the Nuggets.

McDermott showed his ability to shoot from behind the arc Monday as he continues to be one of the main offensive weapons off of the bench for the Bulls. There is a chance he could enter the starting lineup at some point this season if he continues to shoot well and can at least hold his own defensively.
