Meyer has quietly thrown 50-plus pitches in each of his last two outings at Triple-A Rochester, giving up one earned run and striking out six in 7.1 innings over that span.

He did not start either game, but this represents his most impressive run of late, where he has finally started to combine quality and quantity. Meyer is on the Twins' 40-man roster and has only logged 83.1 this season, so he seems inevitable that he will be recalled by the Twins when rosters expand in September. They may opt to keep him in the bullpen, but it is worth noting that he is stretched out to the point where they could give him a handful of starts down the stretch.

Meyer has struggled since he was sent to Triple-A Rochester by giving up eight runs in nine innings.

He does have 11 strikeouts over that span with just four walks, but has given up two home runs. His struggles likely mean he won't be in the majors again until rosters expand in September.

Meyer was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Friday's loss to Kansas City, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Meyer struggled in his first taste of the majors as he gave up five earned runs in 2.2 innings with a 3:3 K:BB ratio. He'll likely remain in the bullpen at Triple-A. If he continues to pitch well in Rochester, he'll likely be the majors again later this summer.

Meyer gave up four runs and two home runs in 1.2 innings in his major league debut in Friday's loss to Milwaukee.

Meyer did retire the first two batters he faced and had two strikeouts, but he gave up a walk and two long home runs. He entered the game in the first inning after Trevor May left after recording just one out. It was a rough debut for Meyer and the Twins may continue to use him in low-leverage spots until he gets acclimated to the majors.

Meyer was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The 6-foot-9 right handed prospect will join the Twins on Friday for the start of their series with the Brewers. Meyer has been dominant since transitioning to a relief role in the minors with a .53 ERA over his last 17 innings of work. Additionally, he hasn't allowed a walk over his last 6.1 innings. Meyer will take Michael Tonkin's place in the bullpen after Tonkin was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday.

Meyer is a candidate to be called up in the near future with his recent success at Triple-A as a reliever, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "The reports are really good. He's throwing it over, throwing it hard, using his off-speed pitches," manager Paul Molitor said. "Obviously, when we talk about people who might help us, his name is going to come up.:

Meyer has a 0.53 ERA and 29:6 BB:K ratio in 17 innings since moving to the bullpen. The Twins have said they still view him as a starter long term, but his success in the bullpen may change that thinking.

"He's in a rut where he'll pitch well for an inning or two and then struggles. So we're just trying to get him back on track. I think right now, as much as anything, it's a confidence issue," assistant general manager Rob Antony said.

Antony said the move to the bullpen isn't permanent. However, may have predicted his future would be in the bullpen where his mid-90s fastball could be featured more prominently. Despite his struggles, he has 41 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.

Meyer threw six scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts and three walks in Tuesday's win for Triple-A Rochester.

Meyer bounced back after two poor starts to begin the season (8 ER over 8.2 IP). He'll need to string together several strong outings before being considered for a big league bullpen or rotation spot if there's an opening.

Meyer struggled mightily in Wednesday's start for Triple-A Rochester, giving up five earned runs and walking five over 3.2 innings.

His ERA currently sits at 8.31 and he now has 11 walks in 8.2 innings. The stadium gun in Scranton was clocking Meyer's fastball in the 92-94 mph range, which is several ticks down from where he's usually sitting. He could be injured or he could have been taking a little off to try to improve his command, but if that was the case it obviously didn't work. While the Twins seem to be diligently trying to develop Meyer as a starter, it seems more and more likely that he will end up in the bullpen long term.

He had a disastrous spring training as far as showing Minnesota he had reined in his command, registering a 11.1 BB/9.

While Meyer has a 1.59 ERA this spring, he has an ugly 6:7 K:BB ratio in 5.2 innings. He's likely fallen behind Mike Pelfrey in the competition for the fifth starter role, but the competition remains in flux that also includes Tommy Milone and Trevor May. The Twins have also wavered whether Meyer could begin the season in the major league bullpen, so the odds look more likely he'll begin the season at Triple-A at this point.

GM Terry Ryan has also said Meyer could win a spot in the bullpen.

Meyer will attend to his personal matters, and is expected to return to camp by Sunday. Once he returns, the 25-year-old is expected to compete for the fifth spot in the Twins' starting rotation. If he is unable to secure the job, however, he is still considered a candidate to pitch out of the bullpen.

Meyer is a candidate to make the bullpen if he doesn't win the fifth starter role this spring, GM Terry Ryan told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "He ought to force himself on this club just by getting the job done in spring camp," Ryan said.

Ryan's comments would make it appear that Meyer is the leading candidate to win the fifth starter role, but the competition (which includes Tommy Milone, Tim Stauffer and Mike Pelfrey) is likely to be wide open. Meyer appears to be over the right shoulder inflammation that sidelined him late last season, but we'll need to see how his shoulder responds in spring training. Meyer had a strong season at Triple-A with a 3.52 ERA and a 10.6 K/9 and is considered the team's top pitching prospect.
