Wed Jul 31 201308:26Aybar likely staying put, Kendrick available
Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports that the Angels are unlikely to trade Erick Aybar.
The Angels briefly talked about Aybar with the Cardinals, but they quickly fizzled out. While the Angels would love to land a pitcher, they are reluctant to move Aybar because shortstops are harder to replace. With that in mind, Gonzalez hears that second baseman Howie Kendrick remains in play in trade talks. However, One interesting wrinkle is that Kendrick can block trades to 12 teams in 2013.

Tue Jul 30 201321:15Cards won't deal Martinez or Wacha for Aybar
ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Cardinals have "made it clear" to the Angels that they will not include Carlos Martinez or Michael Wacha in a deal for Erick Aybar.
Bowden also adds that the Cards are "all quiet" and "not" close to anything, so it appears that, at least at this time, a deal for Aybar is a longshot. Things could certainly change prior to the Wednesday afternoon deadline.

Tue Jul 30 201320:30Cards hesitant to meet asking price for Aybar
ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Angels and Cardinals have discussed a deal that would send Erick Aybar to St. Louis for either Carlos Martinez or Michael Wacha plus Pete Kozma.
Bowden notes, not surprisingly, that the Cards are reluctant to meet the asking price. There's always the possibility that the two sides could close the gap before Wednesday's deadline, as it appears St. Louis is anxious to upgrade at shortstop and the Angels need pitching help. Aybar is making $8.5 million this season and owed the same amount each year through 2016.

Tue Jul 30 201319:00Cards have talked to Angels about Erick Aybar
CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Cardinals have talked to the Angels about Erick Aybar.
The Cards have insisted publicly that they're fine with Pete Kozma at shortstop, but they've now had discussions about Alexei Ramirez, Jimmy Rollins and now Aybar. However, Knobler notes that St. Louis has "shown a reluctance" to trade their young pitching, and the Angels "don't have a ready replacement at short if they were to deal Aybar." The 29-year-old is making $8.5 million this season and owed the same amount each year through 2016.

Sun Jul 28 201321:53Angels listen to offers on Aybar, Kendrick
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports the Angels are willing to listen to offers on Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick.
The Angels are 13 games back in the AL West and expected to be sellers at the trade deadline. Aybar, 29, is batting .283/.310/.389 with four home runs over 81 games this season. Kendrick is signed through 2015.

Sun Jul 28 201319:59Aybar collects 2B, 3B, 2 walks, steal, RBI
Erick Aybar stuffed the stat sheet in Sunday's loss to the A's, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two walks, a steal, an RBI and a run scored.
A nice bounce back for Aybar, who went hitless on Friday and Saturday. He's hitting .283 and won't lose his starting gig, in part due to his slick glove. That's the good news. The bad news, for fantasy owners, is that Aybar doesn't contribute much else. He's never hit for power, so his four homers and 37 RBI are no surprise, but Aybar is on pace for just eight steals after stealing 20-plus three years straight.

Fri Jul 5 201300:20Aybar has walk-off single vs. Cardinals
Erick Aybar delivered a walk-off RBI single in a 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Thursday.
His flare single to left field completed a stunning three-run rally against Adam Wainwright and Edward Mujica. Aybar finished the day 3-for-4 with a run scored and has pulled his batting average all the way up to .290 for the season. The Angels have now won eight out of their last nine games.

Sat Jun 29 201300:29Erick Aybar has two hits, two RBI in win
Erick Aybar went 2-for-3 with a two-run single, a walk, and a run scored in Friday's 4-2 win over the Astros.
Aybar has really turned things around this month, batting .303 with two home runs, 17 RBI, and three stolen bases in 25 games. He has been hitting in the bottom-third of the order for most of his recent hot stretch, so it will be interesting to see whether Angels manager Mike Scioscia moves him back up soon.

Wed Jun 26 201322:28Aybar homers, steals base in win over Tigers
Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base in a win over the Tigers on Wednesday.
After a slow start Aybar is now hitting .282. The home run, his third of the year, was a surprise, but arguably more surprising is the fact that his stolen base was just his fourth this season. He's stolen at least 20 bases in each of his previous three seasons.

Sat Jun 1 201301:29Erick Aybar hits first homer
Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 and hit his first homer of the year Friday against the Astros.
Aybar finished with eight homers in 517 at-bats last year. This year, his first homer came in his 135th at-bat. He's been a fantasy bust despite getting all of his starts at the top of the order thus far. He figures to be dropped down to the bottom of the Angels lineup after Peter Bourjos comes back.

Sat May 18 201301:03Erick Aybar in a May slump
Erick Aybar went 0-for-4 in Friday's loss and is just 11-for-51 this month.
That .216 average is also his on-base percentage for the month, since his one walk this season came on April 30. He's also 0-for-1 stealing bases this month. Aybar is only back in the leadoff spot because Peter Bourjos is hurt. He'll probably be dropped to seventh or lower once Bourjos is activated.
