Sun Apr 17 202212:25Anthony Rendon, Jared Walsh Out Sunday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon and first baseman Jared Walsh are not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Texas Rangers. Walsh and outfielder Brandon Marsh are sitting for the second straight game against a left-handed pitcher. Jack Mayfield is at the hot corner and is hitting cleanup, while Matt Duffy is starting at first for the second straight day and batting fifth against Rangers southpaw Martin Perez. Although he has a homer and three RBI in his first eight games, Rendon is off to a slow start with just five hits in 27 at-bats. Walsh has sat against three of the four lefties the Angels have faced in the early going, so a true platoon is developing between him and Duffy at the cold corner.

Tue Apr 12 202223:03Anthony Rendon Goes Yard Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon went deep for the first time this season during Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. He ended up going 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Rendon's been struggling at the plate to start the year, slashing .118/.211/294 with six strikeouts over his first four games. Last year, the 31-year-old dealt with multiple injuries, including a season-ending hip ailment. Rendon didn't look himself when on the field, as he hit .240/.329/.382 with six home runs across 58 games. It's too early to tell if his hip is still bothering him, though it was reported last month that he was feeling completely healthy. There's still hope that the career .286 hitter can reverse his trajectory, but fantasy managers should monitor Rendon's play moving forward.

Wed Mar 16 202223:33Anthony Rendon Says He's Completely Healthy
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hip), who had season-ending right hip surgery in early July of last year, said on Wednesday that he's completely healthy and ready for the season. Rendon also battled injuries to his groin, knee and hamstring last year, but he was cleared for baseball activity in November and hasn't had any setbacks since. The 31-year-old played in only 31 games in 2021 and hit .240/.329/.382 with six home runs and 34 RBI, which is far from what fantasy managers expected of him. Rendon said his hip injury prevented him from rotating his hips, which in turn affected his results when he was on the field. With better health, Rendon could easily bounce back in his third year in Anaheim.

Fri Mar 4 202221:19Anthony Rendon A "Full-Go" Once MLB Lockout Ends
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hip) should be "full-go" once the lockout ends and camp begins. In early August, the 31-year-old underwent surgery to repair a right hip impingement, ending an injury-plagued season. According to Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times, Rendon should be a "full-go" when the lockout ends. Rendon slashed .240/.329/.382 with six home runs, 34 RBI and 24 runs scored over 249 plate appearances in 2021. He is in the third year of a seven-year, $245 million deal and is expected to hit in the heart of the order between Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. Fantasy managers can expect Rendon to be fully recovered from his hip surgery and with a clean bill of health, he is a borderline top-10 third baseman heading into fantasy drafts.

Tue Nov 2 202116:43Anthony Rendon Expects To Be Ready For Spring Training
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hip) said on Tuesday that he expects to be ready for the beginning of Spring Training after undergoing surgery in August. The 31-year old only played in 58 games this past season with the worst production of his career. He slashed .240/.329/.382 with six home runs, 34 RBI, and 24 runs. Rendon missed time on the injured list on three separate occasions, the last being a hip injury that ended his season on July 4. The Angels hope he can stay healthy in 2022 and put up numbers closer to his career .287/.369/.484 slash line. He should slot right back into the heart of the lineup and could give fantasy managers good value in the middle rounds.

Wed Aug 4 202118:47Anthony Rendon Will Have Season-Ending Surgery
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hip) will have season-ending surgery and won't return this season. Per a tweet from the team's public relations Twitter account, the surgery is "to repair a right hip impingement." The 31-year-old had a down year at the plate in his second season with the Angels, batting .240 with a .329 on-base percentage and six home runs in 249 plate appearances. If you're looking for a fantasy replacement for Rendon from the Angels, you're probably better off looking elsewhere. Jack Mayfield has been getting most of the starts at third base lately. The 30-year-old is hitting .189 with a .222 on-base percentage and five home runs in 101 plate appearances this season.

Tue Aug 3 202108:19Anthony Rendon Still Has No Timetable For A Return
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) has been sidelined since July 6 with a left hamstring strain and he continues to remain without a timetable for a return. Rendon has been working in the weight room, but he has yet to resume baseball activities. According to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, Angels manager Joe Maddon hasn't seemed optimistic about the status of Rendon's recovery. It could still be quite some time until we see Rendon again. Jack Mayfield should continue to fill in as the team's primary third baseman for now.

Wed Jul 14 202120:50Angels sign veteran OF Adam Eaton after White Sox release
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels signed veteran outfielder Adam Eaton two days after he was released by the Chicago White Sox. The Angels announced the move Wednesday. They also designated left-hander Dillon Peters for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The White Sox designated Eaton for assignment July 7 after he batted .201 with five homers and 28 RBIs in 58 games during his return season with Chicago. After a strong start to the year, his production slumped badly from mid-April onward. The 10-year major league veteran also struggled at the plate with the Washington Nationals in 2020, a year after playing well and winning a World Series ring with new Angels teammate Anthony Rendon. Eaton is a career .278 hitter with 65 homers and 317 RBIs across a decade with Arizona, Washington and two stints with the White Sox. Eaton will provide immediate depth in the Angels' injury-plagued outfield. Left fielder Justin Upton has been out since June 22 with a lower back injury,... [More]
Tue Jul 6 202118:38Anthony Rendon on Angels' injury list for 3rd time this year
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Third baseman Anthony Rendon has been placed on the Los Angeles Angels' injured list for the third time before the All-Star break. Rendon went on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left hamstring strain that occurred Sunday. The Angels recalled infielder Jack Mayfield from Triple-A Salt Lake to replace him. Rendon has struggled with injuries and inconsistent production at the plate throughout the second season of a $245 million, seven-year contract he signed as a free agent to join Los Angeles after winning the World Series in a career year with Washington in 2019. The slugger has played in just 58 of the Angels' 84 games, and he is batting a career-low .240 with six homers — just three since May 3 — and 34 RBIs. He was 11 for 47 with two homers in his final 13 games before his latest injury. Rendon missed 11 games in April with a groin strain. He then missed nine games in May with a bruise after fouling a ball off his left knee. The Angels (42-42) entered Tuesday's... [More]
Mon Jul 5 202121:28Angels' Maddon: Ohtani to pitch and hit in All-Star Game
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani plans to be a pitcher and a hitter in his first All-Star Game next week, his Los Angeles Angels manager says. Joe Maddon said Monday that he has spoken with AL manager Kevin Cash and given his encouragement to showcase all of the Japanese sensation's two-way skills on July 13 at Coors Field. Maddon says Ohtani wants to play both ways in Denver, and Cash is on board with the plan. The current Tampa Bay manager just hasn't figured out when Ohtani will pitch, according to the former Rays skipper. “The conclusion is that he will pitch, but how it’s going to happen has not been concluded,” Maddon said. “There’s different ways to do it, obviously. He could start the game, or come in game-in-progress.” Last weekend, Ohtani — who leads the majors in homers — became the first player in major league history to be selected for an All-Star Game as both a hitter and a pitcher. The fans elected him to the game at the plate, and he received the honor as a pitcher in... [More]
Mon Jul 5 202100:18Ohtani homers again as Angels beat Orioles 6-5
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 31st homer in the third, and Juan Lagares ended it with a two-run double in the ninth inning of the Los Angeles Angels’ 6-5 comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Cedric Mullins hit a tiebreaking homer for Baltimore in the ninth in his first game after making his first All-Star team, but the Angels jumped all over Cole Sulser (2-1) without making an out in the bottom half. After Los Angeles loaded the bases on a walk and two short singles, Lagares doubled to the gap in right-center, extending the Angels’ winning streak to five games. Raisel Iglesias (6-3) got the win. Ohtani tied the MLB record for the most homers in a season by a Japanese-born player when he blasted a 459-foot solo shot off Thomas Eshelman to straightaway center. It was his 14th homer in 17 games overall. Less than an hour later, Ohtani became the first player in major league history to be picked for an All-Star Game as both a hitter and... [More]

Jean Segura scored Ronald Torreyes with an infield single in the 10th inning for his second straight game-ending hit and the Philadelphia Phillies got a third consecutive walkoff win with an 8-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday. After Yankees star DJ LeMahieu hit a tying, three-run homer in the ninth, Archie Bradley (2-1) pitched a perfect 10th to strand the designated runner. Travis Jankowski led off the bottom of the inning against Aroldis Chapman (4-2) by reaching on the pitcher’s error. Jankowski bunted, and Chapman fielded the ball, checked Torreyes at second, then huried a throw high to first. Torreyes advanced to third. Odubel Herrera popped out, then Segura hit a hard grounder to third baseman Gio Urshela, who dived toward the line to catch it but couldn’t relay the ball home ahead of Torreyes. Bryce Harper doubled, had two singles and drove in two for the Phillies, who have won five of six. Gary Sánchez hit a solo homer and had an RBI single, and Rougned Odor also... [More]

Thu Jun 10 202100:45Pederson, Alcantara homers power Cubs past Padres 3-1
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Joc Pederson and Sergio Alcantara homered, and Jake Arrieta threw five strong innings for the Chicago Cubs, who beat former teammate Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres 3-1 Wednesday to take two of three. The Cubs beat the Padres five times in six games in a 10-day stretch, including a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field last week. Darvish (6-2) retired the first nine Cubs batters before Pederson hit a towering home run to right-center field leading off the fourth to tie it at 1. Darvish pitched well but took the hard-luck loss when the Cubs scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on Anthony Rizzo’s double-play ball. Arrieta allowed one run and four hits in five innings, struck out six and walked one. He allowed Manny Machado’s RBI single in the third. Rex Brothers (2-0) pitched a perfect sixth for the win. Wed Jun 2 202102:33Yankees win on Frazier's homer with two outs in 11th
NEW YORK (AP) — Clint Frazier hit a game-ending, two-run homer with two outs in the 11th inning after making a game-saving catch in the eighth, and the slumping New York Yankees beat the rival Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 Tuesday night. The righty-hitting Frazier turned on a slider from right-hander Andrew Kittredge (5-1) and stood at the plate to admire the drive, capping a tight finish in which both teams came up short on potential rallies. One of those stalled efforts came in the eighth, when Frazier dove and needed every inch of his mitt to catch Joey Wendle’s soft-hit liner to strand two. New York ended a four-game slide and beat Tampa Bay in the Bronx for the second time in 11 tries since the start of last season. The AL East-leading Rays remained 4 1/2 games ahead of the Yankees with two games left in this four-game series. Tampa Bay had held New York to three or fewer runs in seven straight matchups and won nine straight against division foes. ORIOLES 7, TWINS 4 BALTIMORE (AP) — Cedric Mullins... [More]
