Tue Dec 11 201200:49Walter a non-factor in Week 14 rout
Kevin Walter didn't record a catch in Monday night's Week 14 loss to the Patriots.
Walter was the picture of a non-factor. He was targeted three times on the night, with two of the passes coming on separate fourth-and-five situations. Needless to say, the Texans didn't convert either one. Walter dropped the first of the two, and the second was sailed over his head. Walter is the furthest thing from a fantasy option.

Kevin Walter caught four balls for 74 yards and a touchdown as the Texans downed the Ravens handily in Week 7.
Walter caught a couple of long balls off play action, including his first-quarter touchdown from 25 yards out. Walter isn't a terrible player, but his fantasy production all too often is as the third receiving option in a run-first offense. Walter won't be roster-worthy during Houston's Week 8 bye.

Thu Sep 6 201210:16Kevin Walter locked in as No. 2 WR
Matt Schaub confirmed that Kevin Walter is still the Texans' No. 2 wideout.
Walter was outplayed by youngsters Lestar Jean and Keshawn Martin in the preseason, but he's in no danger of losing his starting job. "Kevin's one of the most underrated guys we've got," Schaub. "He's always in the right spot, does everything a thousand miles an hour. He does so much for us in the run game." Walter is a significantly better real-life player than fantasy option. He had just 39 catches for 474 yards in 15 games last year.

Wed Jul 25 201201:23Kevin Walter may lose snaps in 2012
The Houston Chronicle expects Kevin Walter to lose snaps to the Texans' younger wide receivers in 2012.
Walter separation skills and playmaking ability are evaporating at age 31. While he remains a solid fit for Houston's run-based offense due to his superb blocking, Walter probably won't be an every-down receiver this season. Look for Lestar Jean, in particular, to make a run at Walter's job in training camp.

Mon Jun 11 201208:51Kevin Walter remains a starter
Kevin Walter remains the Texans' starting wideout opposite Andre Johnson.
The Texans didn't add any veteran receivers after Jacoby Jones left, instead counting on Lestar Jean, Keshawn Martin and DeVier Posey to fill out their depth chart. Those three have zero career combined NFL catches. Walter, 31, will once again act as a blocker in the Texans' run-heavy offense. Even though Andre Johnson missed nine games last year, Walter managed just 39 catches for 474 yards.

Fri Mar 30 201214:33Kevin Walter slashes salary by $1.5 million
Kevin Walter agreed to cut his 2012 base salary from $3.5 million to $2 million on March 16.
The move cleared $1.5 million in salary cap space. The Texans may have threatened to release Walter before the "restructuring." Walter didn't get a signing bonus to compensate for his salary loss, however; he's just going to be paid less. Likewise, look for Walter's role to decrease on offense this year.

Kevin Walter caught two passes for 25 yards as the Texans fell to the Ravens in Sunday's Divisional round playoff game.
Walter was limited to 36 receiving yards on 10 targets in two playoff games. He had one ugly drop against Baltimore, securing only two of the eight passes thrown in his direction. Walter is a solid blocking and possession receiver, but the Texans may prioritize finding a more dynamic No. 2 receiver this offseason. Walter, 31 in August, is owed a $3.5 million base salary.
