Kevin Walter (shoulder) was limited in Texans practice Wednesday. |
Walter caught a fluky touchdown pass in the fourth quarter last week, but has just 49 yards on four catches this season. He's about a WR5 in fantasy. |

Sun Sep 25 2011 | 18:46 | Kevin Walter goes for 35 yards, touchdown |
Kevin Walter caught three passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Texans' Week 3 loss to New Orleans. |
Jacoby Jones had one reception for zero yards. Walter showed excellent concentration to haul in a twice-tipped pass on his fourth-quarter touchdown catch, but in the long run increasing roles for James Casey and Owen Daniels kill his fantasy appeal. The Texans also won't throw as often as they did in this game. Look for Walter to finish as a top-50 or so fantasy receiver. |

Fri Sep 23 2011 | 18:18 | Kevin Walter limited in Friday's practice |
Kevin Walter (shoulder, probable) was limited in Friday's practice. |
The Texans are counting on Walter to start with Jacoby Jones questionable. Walter has evolved into more of a blocking wide receiver in a run-first offense. |

Thu Sep 22 2011 | 17:41 | Kevin Walter limited again on Thursday |
Kevin Walter (shoulder) was limited again in Thursday's practice. |
Walter admits his shoulder isn't close to full health, but he plans to give it a go this week anyway. He's not a fantasy starter when healthy, much less when limited by injury. |

Wed Sep 21 2011 | 16:49 | Kevin Walter to take numbing injection |
Kevin Walter will return from his shoulder contusion in Week 3 and plans to take a numbing injection before the game. |
"They'll probably have to numb it up on Sunday, but it is what it is," Walter said Wednesday, after returning in a full practice. Coach Gary Kubiak also confirmed that Walter will rejoin the starting lineup against New Orleans. |

Mon Sep 19 2011 | 16:47 | Texans expect Kevin Walter back for Week 3 |
Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Monday that he expects Kevin Walter (shoulder) to play in Week 3 against the Saints. |
"There's a good chance that Kevin will be back this week," said Kubiak, adding that Walter was "pretty close" to playing against the Dolphins. Jacoby Jones managed 48 yards on three receptions in Week 2, and the two will likely continue to rotate going forward. The situation is best left avoided in fantasy. |

Fri Sep 16 2011 | 14:12 | Kevin Walter misses Texans practice |
Kevin Walter (shoulder) missed Texans practice on Friday. |
Coach Gary Kubiak characterized Walter as a "game-time decision," but we'd be shocked if he played against the Dolphins. Look for Jacoby Jones to start. |

Thu Sep 15 2011 | 14:53 | Kevin Walter held out again Thursday |
Kevin Walter (shoulder) was held out of practice again on Thursday. |
The Texans have downplayed Walter's injury, but he's not going to play against the Dolphins this week. Jacoby Jones will draw the start in his place. |

Wed Sep 14 2011 | 17:47 | Walter (collarbone) misses practice |
Kevin Walter (collarbone) did not participate in Texans practice on Wednesday. |
Walter's injury is far less serious than originally feared, but he's still a poor bet to be active against the Dolphins this Sunday. Count on Jacoby Jones starting opposite Andre Johnson for the Texans. |

Sun Sep 11 2011 | 18:33 | Texans lose WR Kevin Walter for 10-12 weeks |
Profootballtalk.com reports that Kevin Walter is out 10-12 weeks with a "broken" left shoulder. |
The Texans will have to consider placing Walter on injured reserve considering the recovery time. Jacoby Jones is about as inconsistent a football player as you'll find, but he'll move into the starting lineup across from Andre Johnson. Unfortunately, Jones will still be a dicey WR3 in an offense that's become much more run-minded over the past two seasons. Walter is an excellent blocking receiver, so his loss may affect the downfield run game some. In terms of targets, look for Owen Daniels' fantasy value to be especially bolstered as Houston's top possession receiver and option over the middle. |

Sun Sep 11 2011 | 16:39 | Kevin Walter leaves with shoulder injury |
Kevin Walter had one catch for 14 yards before leaving Sunday's game with a left shoulder injury. |
No word on the extent of the injury, but Walter shouldn't be near fantasy rosters anyway. The Texans are morphing into a run-heavy team and Walter was never a good bet for targets anyway. He had just two of them in two quarters before leaving. |

Tue Aug 16 2011 | 09:44 | Walter starts ahead of Jacoby Jones |
Kevin Walter started Monday's preseason opener ahead of Jacoby Jones. |
No surprise here. Even though Walter has shown no difference-making ability during his eight-year career, he continues to run ahead of the talented Jones. It would take an Andre Johnson injury for either to land on the fantasy radar. |

Tue Jun 28 2011 | 16:28 | Kubiak doesn't plan to sign a No. 2 WR |
Texans coach Gary Kubiak doesn't plan to target an upgrade on Kevin Walter in free agency. |
"If you put Jacoby (Jones) and Kevin Walter's numbers together last year, they add up to about 102 catches and 1,200 yards, and that would be the best No. 2 receiver in football," Kubiak said. "I like our two players. I think they're both damned good players." Kubiak's preference is to re-sign Jones while maintaining "the nucleus." |

Sun Jan 2 2011 | 19:33 | Walter totals 54 yards in season finale |
Kevin Walter caught three passes for 54 yards on five targets against the Jaguars in Week 17. |
Walter played second fiddle to Jacoby Jones for the second straight game with Andre Johnson out. He finishes his age-29 season with 51 receptions, 621 yards, and five TDs -- numbers almost identical to his 2009 totals. Walter is past the point in his career where we can reasonably hope for a breakout season in 2011. |
Sun Dec 26 2010 | 19:39 | Kevin Walter catches one pass in Week 16 |
Kevin Walter caught one pass for 14 yards in the Texans' Week 16 loss to the Broncos. |
Matched up primarily with Champ Bailey, Walter didn't have a single first-half catch and was targeted only twice. Walter caught his only ball when Bailey exited with a left ankle injury late in the third quarter. |
Sun Dec 19 2010 | 18:34 | Walter leads Texans with 79 yards, TD |
Kevin Walter led the Texans with seven receptions, 79 yards, and a touchdown against the Titans in Week 15. |
Walter was Matt Schaub's favorite dumpoff target, finishing second on the team with 10 targets. He notched a four-yard TD in garbage time with the Titans leading by three touchdowns. The Texans are unlikely to be in catchup mode at Denver next week, so Walter isn't a great waiver pickup. |
Tue Dec 14 2010 | 00:35 | Walter racks up five catches |
Kevin Walter caught five passes for 57 yards in Monday night's 34-28 overtime loss to the Ravens. |
It's Walter's best game since Week 10 and it was a product of the Texans' 28-7 second-half deficit. Walter is covering kicks for the Texans, as he clearly isn't treated as a major part of the passing game. Don't chase these numbers in the fantasy playoffs. |
