Wed Oct 2 201311:44C.J. McCollum will have to earn minutes
C.J. McCollum will have to earn minutes as a rookie, according to coach Terry Stotts, who views McCollum as a combo guard.
Stotts added late addition Mo Williams to his "core" group, which leaves McCollum the odd-man-out. "McCollum," Stotts said, "will have to earn his opportunities." McCollum has already shown improvement during training camp, but with a full starting lineup his rookie year could be limited by a lack of minutes.

Tue Oct 1 201315:19Aldridge impressed by C.J. McCollum
LaMarcus Aldridge said that no player on the Blazers has impressed him at voluntary workouts more than C.J. McCollum.
"He's definitely very good in pick-and-roll," Aldridge said. "He has that pace to his game that I like. He's kind of like Andre Miller." The Blazers have given their first-round pick a lot of leash and he took a ton of shots in summer league. McCollum is a longshot to make the starting five and the added depth on the Blazers doesn't give him a concrete role, so he's a bit of a questionable pick in standard leagues. The upside is there, though.

Wed Sep 25 201312:34McCollum admits to shaky summer league
C.J. McCollum admitted to playing "shaky" during Las Vegas Summer League.
He said that the speed of the game and the extra distance from the 3-point line were factors in his adjustment to the pros. McCollum had horrific shooting numbers, making just 36.6 percent from the field on his event-high 20.2 shots per game. The addition of Mo Williams has put a damper on the rookie's value, so he's a questionable pick in standard leagues.

Thu Aug 8 201311:11C.J. McCollum figures to lose playing time
C.J. McCollum could lose some playing time with the Blazers due to Wednesday's signing of Mo Williams.
McCollum was handed the keys to the offense in Las Vegas Summer League, leading the league in shots per game. While his 21.0 points per game ranked second in Vegas, his 36.6 percent from the field may have been enough for the Blazers to get some insurance with Williams. McCollum moves out of the conversation as a late-round pick in standard leagues, but his potential as a scorer make him a player that everyone should keep an eye on.

Tue Jul 23 201309:33C.J. McCollum faces defensive learning curve
Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool said that C.J. McCollum will have a "learning curve" defensively, but he expects the rookie to learn quickly.
McCollum's offensive skills aren't in question, but he needs to learn the Blazers' defensive concepts before getting significant minutes alongside Damien Lillard. Until that time, he's likely to spend most of his playing time as a PG, with Wesley Matthews at SG.

Thu Jul 18 201322:54Blazers will sit starters for Saturday's game
The Blazers will not play their starters for Friday's game in Las Vegas.
That means we've seen the last of Thomas Robinson, Meyers Leonard, Will Barton, C.J. McCollum and Victor Claver in Vegas. McCollum had an itchy trigger finger in Thursday's loss, shooting 9-of-26 from the field for 22 points with four rebounds, five assists, two steals and two 3-pointers. This was nothing new as he took 20.2 shot in the 40-minute summer league games, which if extrapolated to a 48-minute game, it would be more than Carmelo Anthony's league-leading 22.2 attempts per game in the regular season. The Lehigh product will be worth keeping an eye on this offseason.

Tue Jul 16 201322:33C.J. McCollum scores 27 points vs. Bulls
C.J. McCollum hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 10.8 seconds left to send Tuesday's game against the Bulls to overtime, finishing with 27 points, six boards, one assist, one block and two turnovers on 8-of-25 shooting.
He got a terrific look at the top of the key and swished the jumper, then came up with a stop on the other end against Marquis Teague to send the game to OT. McCollum was all over the floor and despite the one assist, he had a great understanding of where the defense was setting him up. It's unclear how many minutes he'll get off the bench with the Blazers, but the talent is there.

Sat Jul 13 201322:43C.J. McCollum impressive, scores 22 points
Blazers rookie C.J. McCollum had an impressive Summer League debut, racking up 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting, with two 3-pointers, three rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
McCollum also had four turnovers, but he played with remarkable poise and control, almost reminiscent of new teammate Damien Lillard. The Blazers' No. 10 pick should be a major part of the bench rotation this season, filling out a dangerous backcourt with starters Lillard and Wesley Matthews.

Sat Jul 13 201315:03C.J. McCollum will play point guard in SL
C.J. McCollum has been asked to play point guard for the Blazers in Las Vegas Summer League.
He won't have the keys to the offense in the regular season with Damian Lillard locked in at point guard. Lillard led the NBA in minutes and coach Terry Stotts has no reason to lighten Lillard's load. On the other hand, McCollum has the skills to be a lights-out shooter and should be showcased by the Blazers this week. We'll be keeping a close eye on him.

Fri Jun 28 201317:18Blazers see C.J. McCollum in a sixth man role
Coach Terry Stotts says he envisions No. 10 overall pick C.J. McCollum in a sixth man role initially.
The Blazers seemed a little disappointed that they weren't able to acquire the center they desperately needed. They settled for McCollum, who is a playmaking, scoring combo guard similar to reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard. Look for Wesley Matthews to retain the starting shooting guard job as this trio forms a three-man rotation. There's still plenty of room for McCollum to get near 30 minutes a night.
