RHP Miguel Castro (right shoulder inflammation) was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 18. Castro, who reported shoulder soreness after pitching one scoreless inning Sunday at Chicago, is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in six games with the Rockies. He was unavailable to pitch the ninth Wednesday at Cincinnati. So with the game tied at 5, Christian Bergman pitched the ninth, gave up three hits and the Reds won 6-5.

RHP Miguel Castro (right shoulder inflammation) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to April 18. Castro, who reported shoulder soreness after pitching one scoreless inning Sunday at Chicago, is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in six games with the Rockies.
Sat Sep 26 201517:32Castro (back) not expected to pitch again this season
Castro (back) is not expected to pitch again this season, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Manager Walt Weiss revealed Saturday that Castro has been nursing a back injury, which explains why the 20-year-old hasn't appeared in a game since Sept. 14. The Rockies will likely just shut Castro down for the year and hope he can go through a normal offseason routine. Castro struggled as a starter with Triple-A Buffalo before being traded to Colorado in the Troy Tulowitzki deal, but the Rockies have not publicly shut the door on returning him to a starting role in the spring.

Castro made his Rockies debut in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks. He took the loss in relief after allowing four runs on three hits and a walk over 1.1 innings.
Castro, who was acquired by the Rockies in the July 27 deal that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto, was one of several September call-ups who joined the squad ahead of the doubleheader. While his team debut wasn't an encouraging one, the hard-throwing Castro is still just 20 years old, and looks primed to occupy an important role at the back end of the Colorado bullpen as soon as 2016. During the final month of the season, he figures to get his feet wet in lower-leverage middle relief situations.
Tue Sep 1 201513:26Castro recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday
Castro was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.
Castro, a piece in the Troy Tulowitzki deal, worked partially as a starter while a member of the Blue Jays organization, but the Rockies have made it clear they plan to develop the 20-year-old as a reliever. Castro is still battling some control issues (38 walks in 38.1 total innings this season), but it's quite possible the Rockies view him as their closer of the future. Whether he gets a chance to work in that role over the next month remains to be seen, however.

Castro has given up two runs on three hits and four walks over five innings in relief since joining the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque.
The 20-year-old flamethrower was acquired prior to the trade deadline as part of the package of prospects they received in return from Toronto for Troy Tulowitzki. Though he rose through the Blue Jays' system as a starter, the Rockies are intent on developing Castro as a back-end bullpen arm, a role he assumed with Toronto to open the season before he was demoted back to the Triple-A level. Control still remains a trouble spot for Castro, who has posted 17 walks in 29.2 minor-league innings this season, so until he shows better strike-zone management, he likely won't be called upon to assume a key late-inning role for the Rockies.
Tue Jul 28 201519:57The Rockies are planning to develop Castro as reliever
The Rockies are planning to develop Castro as a reliever, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Acquired earlier Tuesday as one of the four players the Rockies received back from Toronto in the Troy Tulowitzki deal, it was assumed that Castro would be groomed as a starter, given his new organization's annual need for reliable rotation members. Instead, the Rockies seem to envision Castro as their long-term solution at closer, a role that might actually be better suited for his talents. Castro possesses a three-pitch mix, but it's his blazing fastball that has often been clocked over 100 miles per hour that receives the most rave reviews. At only 20 years old, Castro has the potential to develop into an Aroldis Chapman-caliber end-gamer if things break right for him.

Castro was officially traded to the Rockies on Tuesday as part of the Jose Reyes-Troy Tulowitzki deal.
Reports Monday night suggested Castro would be included, and Tuesday's announcement, via the Blue Jays' official Twitter account, confirms the news. Castro had been used as a closer in the Blue Jays' organization, but the feeling is that Colorado will look to stretch him out and turn him into a starter. As a result, Castro will likely remain at the Triple-A level for the foreseeable future.
Tue Jul 28 201502:48The Jays are likely to include Castro in Troy Tulowitzki deal
The Jays are likely to include Castro in the Troy Tulowitzki deal, Jon Heyman reports.
The deal isn't yet official, but if it goes through Castro would probably be developed as a starter by the Rockies. He has struggled with his control since his demotion to Triple-A Buffalo, wlaking 12 batters in 18.2 innings.

Castro gave up two earned runs in one inning for Triple-A Buffalo in their loss to Rochester on Tuesday.
Since being promoted back to Triple-A, Castro has struggled significantly, giving up five earned runs in two innings, raising his ERA to 5.93 in Buffalo. After a strong start to the season that saw him holding the ninth inning role in Toronto, he's been unable to pitch consistently well aside from during his rehab stint in High-A Dunedin. Castro is just 20-years-old and has plenty of time to regain his form; however, a return to the majors before September seems unlikely thanks to performances like these.
Sun Jul 5 201510:16Castro promoted to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday
Castro was promoted to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
After opening the year as the closer for the parent club, Castro was sent back to the minors upon his early-season struggles. While he's not been dominant since returning to the farm and also recently dealt with a hand injury, Castro is still viewed as a candidate to aid the Blue Jays' bullpen in the second half. The right-hander will make the jump from High-A to Triple-A after tossing five scoreless innings in the Florida State League.

Castro (hand) has been activated from the 7-day DL and sent down to High-A Dunedin, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.
The Jays' plans for him in the minors are not particularly clear in the short term, but given that he's not staying in the high minors, it seems as though a move back into a starting role hasn't been ruled out for Castro.

Castro left Friday's game with Triple-A Buffalo due to a right hand issue, Barry Davis of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Details are scarce, with the team wanting to send Castro to see a hand specialist and undergo testing before offering up a diagnosis. The 20-year-old right-hander has battled control issues since his demotion but has been able to limit the damage to a large extent (3.09 ERA).

Castro struggled with his command again, walking three over two-plus innings in his second start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old has seen all sorts of ups and downs this season, and Tuesday in Buffalo showed both the best and worst of Castro. The three strikeouts in two-plus innings is a strong sign, along with not conceding a hit; however, the three walks and only 23 strikes in 43 pitches is concerning, particularly if he wants to find a role in the Blue Jays bullpen again this season. More time in Triple-A should help Castro work out whatever kinks may be plaguing his delivery as he works his way back into the majors.

Castro got touched up in his first start for Triple-A Buffalo, giving up two earned runs, five hits and a walk while striking out two in one-plus inning of work.
The 20-year-old was virtually un-hittable for his first eight appearances, sporting a 1.04 ERA. But that quickly went downhill as he gave up earned runs in four of his next five appearances and was demoted. For someone with as much promise as Castro has, one would expect him to pitch better in Triple-A than he did. He probably has to spend some real time in the minors before getting called back up, though he does have the potential to be a shutdown reliever in the future for the Blue Jays.
Sun May 3 201520:48Miguel Castro: Sent Down To Triple-A Buffalo
Castro was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Castro's brief stint in the closer's role didn't go well, and he's now facing a demotion of another kind, after giving up two runs as a middle reliever in Sunday's loss to the Indians. The 20-year-old Castro still has plenty of long-term upside, and it's possible he'll be stretched out as a starter in the minors. The Blue Jays recalled Steve Delabar and Chad Jenkins to replace Castro and Scott Copeland in the big-league bullpen.
Tue Apr 28 201516:00Miguel Castro: Demoted To Middle-Relief Role
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Tuesday that Castro will be removed from the closer's role in favor of Brett Cecil, John Lott of the National Post reports.
Castro has allowed a run in four of his last five appearances, after holding opponents scoreless in his his first six games of the year. He may eventually move back into a late-inning role, but the Jays want him to work in some lower-leverage situations for the time being. Brett Cecil will get another shot at closing, while Roberto Osuna and Aaron Loup will get most of the work in the seventh and eighth innings. Jays manager John Gibbons did hint that the move may only be temporary, saying that he'll "try" Cecil in the closer's role.

Castro took the loss Monday, allowing a run in the ninth inning and recording just a single out.
Times have been tough for the 20-year-old lately. He didn't get a blown save Monday as he entered in a tie game, but he has now allowed runs in three straight appearances and in four of his last five outings. Castro has four saves and a 3.60 ERA for the season.

Castro got a vote of confidence from manager John Gibbons after the Jays' closer notched his second blown save of the season Saturday, SportsNet's Barry Davis reports.
Gibbons said it was way too early to give up on Castro after he gave up a run for the third time in his last four appearances. While Castro is certainly a promising bullpen arm, he is getting worked pretty hard and has already made more relief appearances in the majors this season (10) than he did during his entire run in the minor leagues (nine). It's too soon to drop Castro but his stock is trending down, regardless of what Gibbons says.
