Fri Nov 12 2010 | 19:19 | Uggla: Marlins have broken off contract talks |
Dan Uggla says the Marlins have broken off contract negotiations with him. |
Despite this, Uggla is still hopeful of working out an extension. "It has been the Marlins' choice to stop negotiations," he said. "My team is still wanting to negotiate. My career has been in Florida, and I want to stay in Florida." Uggla rejected a four-year, $48 million offer from Florida recently, which prompted reports that the Marlins would consider trading him. He's looking for something more in the five-year, $60 million range. |

Thu Nov 11 2010 | 20:10 | Uggla thinks long-term deal can be reached |
Dan Uggla told reporters Thursday that he believes a long-term deal can be worked out with the Marlins. |
MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reported last week that the Marlins "may seriously consider" trading Uggla this offseason if an extension can't be worked out. The arbitration-eligible second baseman turned down a four-year, $48 million contract just a few days ago and is presumably looking for a five-year deal worth closer to $60 million. If the Fish are willing to open the purse strings slightly, it sounds like a pact can most definitely be reached. |

Mon Nov 8 2010 | 13:08 | Marlins may consider trading 2B Dan Uggla |
MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that the Marlins "may seriously consider" trading second baseman Dan Uggla this offseason. |
Uggla rejected a four-year, $48 million contract offer from the Marlins this weekend. He's still under team control for another year via salary arbitration, but the Fish might as well deal him now if they have no chance of locking him up long term. Uggla has tallied at least 30 home runs in each of the last four seasons and should be able to net the Marlins a few prospects. |

Mon Nov 8 2010 | 08:34 | Uggla rejects Marlins' four-year, $48M offer |
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Dan Uggla has rejected the Marlins' four-year, $48 million contract offer. |
That's quite a bit of money to turn down, but Uggla knows how thin the free agent market is on power bats and believes he can find a better deal either this offseason or next offseason. The second baseman has slugged at least 30 home runs in each of the last four years and is likely to draw interest from baseball's highest bidders once he's made available. Uggla is under team control for one more season via salary arbitration. |

Thu Nov 4 2010 | 12:14 | Report: Marlins offering Uggla four-year deal |
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Marlins are offering Dan Uggla a four-year contract extension, but that the second baseman seeks a five-year deal. |
Not far off from what Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reported last week. Heyman writes that Uggla would earn $8 million in the first year of the proposed contract, only a slight raise from the $7.8 million salary he earned in 2010. Unless the contract is heavily-backloaded, the Marlins will have to do better than that. |

Fri Oct 29 2010 | 18:20 | Marlins willing to give Uggla fourth year |
The Marlins could be willing to increase their contract extension offer to Dan Uggla from three years to four, but the two sides still remain far apart on a deal. |
The Marlins' original offer was for three years and $24 million, but Uggla's camp is reportedly eying a five-year deal worth at least $50 million. Uggla, who will become a free agent after 2011, will turn 31 before next season, so it's not surprising that the Marlins are hesitant to give him five years, especially considering he's likely to eventually move to third base. |

Sun Oct 3 2010 | 15:53 | Marlins' Uggla drives in three in win |
Dan Uggla homered and doubled to drive in three runs in a 5-2 win over the Pirates on Sunday. |
Uggla also singled and walked in the contest. While Uggla's 33 homers are a career-high, they aren't much different than the 31.7 homers he's averaged over the last three years. However, Uggla did also end the season with career-highs in RBI (105) and batting average (.287) while scoring 100 runs for the third time. Add it all up and Uggla ended up posting the best year of his career while being a solid value pick in all formats. An average north of .270 is unlikely to be repeated however, so Uggla may be slightly overvalued next season. |
Wed Sep 29 2010 | 16:01 | Uggla optimistic about contract with Fish |
Dan Uggla told Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post that he is optimistic that he will be able to reach a contract agreement with the Marlins this winter. |
"Do I see it getting anytime soon? No, but I do feel like there's going to be a really good effort to get something done," he said. Uggla, who turns 31 in March, is eligible for arbitration one last time this winter and has reportedly asked the team about a multi-year contract extension. The slugging second baseman made $7.8 million in arbitration last winter. |

Wed Sep 22 2010 | 10:09 | Uggla wants five-years, $58M from Marlins |
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Dan Uggla has asked the Marlins for a five-year contract extension in the range of $58 million. |
The Marlins, on the other hand, would prefer to give him a three-year contract in the range of $8 million per season. Uggla, who will be a free agent after the 2011 season, made $7.8 million in arbitration this year and projects to make even more this winter. There's always the possibility that he will be traded, but extension talks are set to resume in October. |

Tue Aug 24 2010 | 16:38 | Uggla seeking $55-60 million from Fish |
Major league sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that Dan Uggla is seeking a five-year contract extension worth $55-60 million. |
It sounds insane, but consider for a moment that his 149 career home runs are the most ever by a second baseman in his first five seasons. There's real value there. Uggla, 30, has one year of team control left before becoming a free agent. Negotiations should ramp up once the season is over. |

Sat Aug 14 2010 | 22:24 | Uggla hits two-run shot but Marlins lose |

Fri Aug 13 2010 | 17:50 | Marlins, Uggla discuss extension |
The Marlins are involved in "preliminary" talks with agent Terry Bross about an extension for Dan Uggla. |
Uggla, making $7.8 million this season, has one more year of arbitration left before free agency. It appears that the two sides are discussing a three-year contract for the 30-year-old second baseman. |

The Marlins have begun talks with Dan Uggla's agent regarding a contract extension. |
The Marlins, who initiated the talks, are said to be willing to pay in the three-year, $30 million range. Uggla's agent is looking for a lot more than that. Uggla has 25 longballs this season and recently became the club's all-time leader in home runs. He has one year of arbitration remaining before being eligible for free agency after 2011. |

Wed Jul 28 2010 | 01:41 | Uggla homers twice for Marlins |
Dan Uggla hit his 20th and 21st homer of the season Tuesday versus the Giants. |
They came off a pair of very tough righties in Matt Cain and Brian Wilson. Uggla, who struggled initially after replacing Jorge Cantu in the cleanup spot, has give homers in his last five games. |
Tue Jul 27 2010 | 12:07 | Report: Marlins talking extension for Uggla |
Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports that the Marlins have begun internal discussions about a contract extension for Dan Uggla. |
Uggla told reporters Monday that he would love to remain with the Marlins, and the franchise would be wise to keep their powerful middle infield intact for the opening of their new ballpark in 2012. Uggla is hitting .277/.360/.482 with 19 home runs this season and is under contract through 2011. |

Tue Jul 27 2010 | 09:05 | Uggla would like to stay with Fish long-term |
Dan Uggla would like to remain with the Marlins long-term. |
At least, that's what he told MLB.com's Joe Frisaro on Monday. "I think everybody knows that I'd love to stay in South Florida," said Uggla. "It's my second home. I love the people down there. I love everything it has to offer. It would make me a very happy man." The power-hitting second baseman has been linked in all sorts of trade rumors this season and in seasons past. He's batting .277/.360/.482 with 19 home runs and 59 RBI in 365 at-bats. |
