Dan Uggla is taking batting practice Tuesday for the first time since LASIK surgery.

Sun Aug 18 201308:56Uggla's vision improves to 20/15 after LASIK
Dan Uggla announced that his vision is 20/15 following LASIK surgery.
Astigmatism issues rendered his vision to about 20/30 or 20/35 prior to the procedure. "That tells me right there that it went good," Uggla said. "There are some things that are going to be cloudy or whatever at times. But over the next three, four, five days it should settle in." Doctors cleared Uggla to start taking batting practice when Atlanta arrives in New York on Tuesday to play the Mets. If all goes well, Uggla could be sent out on a minor league rehabilitation assignment later this week. He's eligible to return on August 28. "I feel like I could play today," Uggla said. "Who knows if I'd be effective or not, but that's how good I feel like I'm seeing right now."

Tue Aug 13 201320:51Dan Uggla hopes to return when eligible
Dan Uggla (eye surgery) hopes to return from the disabled list on August 28, the first day he's eligible.
Uggla will undergo LASIK surgery later this week in hopes of fixing a season-long vision issue. "Obviously, I don't want to go on the DL whatsoever, but at the same time, we've got to do what is best for the team right now," Uggla said. "I've been struggling pretty bad and battling with the contacts and grinding with those things day in and day out, so I think the best thing is to go ahead and do it now."

Tue Aug 13 201315:27Uggla (eye surgery) placed on the 15-day DL
Braves placed 2B Dan Uggla on the 15-day disabled list following eye surgery.
Uggla has dealt with vision problems throughout the year and is finally getting the issue addressed. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but the Braves have a large enough lead in the division that he can afford to take his time. Tyler Pastornicky has been recalled take Uggla's place on the active roster.

Uggla's homer, a three-run shot, gave him 47 RBI for the season. With 20 home runs, he's already surpassed his total from last year. And, as usual, his batting average is hovering around the Mendoza Line -- after his two-hit game, Uggla is batting .203.

Dan Uggla said Monday that the new prescription for his contacts have greatly improved his vision at the plate.
Uggla has battled vision issues all year and will undergo Lasik surgery after the season is over. He's batted .277/.327/.574 with three homers and 12 RBI over his last 12 games, though, and gives plenty of credit to his new contacts. "There are some at-bats when it does not feel like it's quite there," Uggla said. "But more times than not, it's night-and-day different."

Fri Jul 5 201322:54Uggla has three-run homer in loss to Phils
Dan Uggla went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Friday against the Phillies.
It was his 15th home run of the season, tying him with Justin Upton for the team lead. Wouldn't have expected that two months ago. Uggla recently started wearing contact lenses to address some vision issues, but it hasn't translated in the batting average department yet. Even with Friday's multi-hit game, he's hitting just .203 for the year.

Dan Uggla returned to the Braves' lineup Friday.
Uggla has been dealing with vision issues and will attempt to wear contacts for the remainder of the season before undergoing Lasik surgery. If Uggla decides to undergo the procedure during the year, he would require a two week stint on the disabled list.

Thu Jun 20 201320:23Dan Uggla dealing with vision issues
Dan Uggla is dealing with vision issues and could wind up undergoing Lasik surgery.
Uggla was not in the Braves' lineup Thursday, as he was visiting the eye doctor. "Well, now you have the situation with his eyes," assistant hitting coach Scott Fletcher said. "His vision - it's something that's been bothering him for a while and only now is it something he's really taking care of." It's not clear if a potential Lasik operation would be performed in-season or over the winter.

Sun Jun 9 201319:40Dan Uggla homers twice in win over Dodgers
Dan Uggla had two home runs in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Dodgers.
Uggla hit a three-run homer off Matt Magill in the third inning and later added a solo shot in the fifth. After slumping for the first two months of the season, he's finally starting to come alive offensively. Ugglas leads all second basemen with 13 home runs, but is batting just .193/.322/.421 through his first 58 games.

Mon May 27 201301:36Uggla homers in loss to the Mets
Dan Uggla went 1-for-2 with two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Mets.
He now has three homers in his last six games. As always, Uggla has been an infuriating fantasy player. He's sixth in the National League with 10 homers and ninth in walks with 24, but he makes contact about as much as Jody Foster in a Robert Zemeckis film. The slugger has 16 singles on the year, compared to 14 extra-base hits. His awful .299 OBP won't help owners with runs or RBI, and his .190 batting average promises to single-handedly drag Roto owners down a few notches in that category.

Wed May 8 201316:56Dan Uggla homers twice in Braves' win
Dan Uggla launched a pair of solo homers Wednesday in the Braves' 7-2 win in Cincinnati.
Uggla's homers were the Braves' only runs through seven innings before the team came up with five in the eighth. He's now hit in six straight games to raise his average from .163 to .209. Today's performance got him back to the Mendoza Line for the first time since April 10.

Sun Apr 21 201309:08Uggla (calf) to sit Sunday against Pirates
Dan Uggla (calf) will sit out Sunday's series finale against the Pirates.
Uggla left Saturday's game with a strained left calf, and he'll get the day off Sunday to rest the leg. He hopes to return to action as early as Monday, so a trip to the disabled list will likely not be necessary. Ramiro Pena will start in his place Sunday.

Sat Apr 20 201320:21Dan Uggla departs game with left calf strain
Dan Uggla left Saturday's game against the Pirates because of a left calf strain.
Uggla was replaced by Ramiro Pena. The second baseman is considered day-to-day with the injury for now but could require a stint on the 15-day disabled list. Hitting just .164/.303/.327 on the young season, a mental and physical reset might do Uggla some good.

Thu Mar 28 201315:54Dan Uggla goes 0-for-3 against Astros
The slumping Dan Uggla went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Astros on Thursday.
Uggla is hitting .200 with a terrible 25/3 K/BB ratio in 75 at-bats. Also, just two of his 15 hits have gone for extra bases. Uggla has always run hot and cold, but now it looks like his early struggles might linger into the regular season. We wonder how much patience the Braves will have him with him, particularly if Tyler Pastornicky keeps on hitting in Triple-A like he has this spring.

Dan Uggla said he was fine after leaving Tuesday's game following a hit by pitch in the back of the neck.
Good to hear. Uggla was removed for precautionary reasons, but it sounds like he won't even require concussion tests. He should return to action as soon as Wednesday.

Tue Mar 5 201321:03Dan Uggla leaves contest after beaning
Dan Uggla left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.
Uggla stayed on his feet and went to first base without any apparent issues, but the Braves wisely chose to play it safe and remove him. The club will surely do some concussion tests, at which point they should have an update on Uggla's status.

Fri Feb 15 201319:28Uggla reports to camp 20 pounds lighter
A noticeably slimmer version of Dan Uggla reported to Braves spring training this season, as he's shed 10 pounds since the end of the 2012 season.
The 32-year-old Uggla, who's coming off the worst season of his professional career, reported to camp at 195 pounds, which is 20 pounds lighter than he was at this point a season ago. He spent the offseason doing baseball-specific workouts and agility drills, while improving his diet. He could represent a decent value after the top tier of second baseman are taken in fantasy drafts.
