Orlando will make the Royals' Opening Day roster, MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan reports. |
Orlando has spent the past seven seasons in the Kansas City farm system, but the 29-year-old outfielder will finally get his chance after batting .319/.360/.489 this spring. Playing time may not be plentiful as a fifth outfielder, so Orlando will look to make the most out of what will likely be few opportunities. |

Orlando is in contention to earn one of the final spots on the Royals' roster, the Kansas City Star reports. |
Orlando will battle with Moises Sierra and Whit Merrifield for the job of fifth outfielder. The team plans to start Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain and Alex Rios in most games, while mixing in Jarrod Dyson to spell Cain in a similar manner to 2014. Orlando has posted a .341/.386/.537 slash line with five extra-base hits over just 41 spring at-bats, numbers that show he's perfectly capable of holding his own at the plate. Even if the 29-year-old isn't chosen for the job, he'll likely be one of the first names called from the minors if an injury occurs in the outfield. |

Orlando will head to Philadelphia later this week for further tests. The 26-year-old batted .268/.320/.421 with five homers, 51 RBI, 14 stolen bases and a .741 OPS last season between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha and is not a legitimate contender for a roster spot. |
