A look at what's happening around the majors Tuesday:OLD FRIENDSPete Alonso and the resurgent Mets face Cleveland in the opener of a pivotal nine-game homestand against a trio of playoff contenders: the Indians, Braves and Cubs. All-Star Game MVP Shane Bieber (12-5, 3.27 ERA) starts for Cleveland against Steven Matz (7-7, 4.33). Mets manager Mickey Callaway was the Indians' pitching coach under skipper Terry Francona before getting the top job in New York. Cleveland begins the second leg of a weeklong visit to New York City after splitting a four-game series at Yankee Stadium last weekend.Back in Ohio, the Indians got encouraging news about Carlos Carrasco, who returned to the mound Monday two months after being diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a treatable form of cancer. LOUIS (AP) — Yasmani Grandal has ended the St. Louis Cardinals' bid for a combined no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers with a two-out double in the eighth inning.Dakota Hudson went the first 6 2/3 innings for the Cardinals but was pulled after throwing 111 pitches Monday night. He struck out seven and walked four — including his final batter, Eric Thames.Giovanny Gallegos entered and retired Ben Gamel on a grounder to end the inning.Orlando Arcia reached on an error to begin the eighth before Gallegos got two outs. He struck out seven and walked four — including his final batter, Eric Thames.Giovanny Gallegos entered and retired Ben Gamel on a grounder to end the inning. The Cardinals lead 3-0 in a matchup of NL Central contenders.Milwaukee's best chance for a hit came in the sixth when Trent Grisham hit a hard grounder up the middle. LOUIS (AP) — Left-hander Chasen Shreve and the St. Louis Cardinals agreed to a $900,000, one-year contract.Shreve can earn an additional $400,000 in performance bonuses for games pitched as part of the deal announced Friday: $50,000 each for 35, 40, 45 and 50; $75,000 apiece for 55 and 60; and $50,000 for 65.The 28-year-old was 3-4 with a 3.93 ERA and one save in a career-high 60 appearances this year for the New York Yankees and the Cardinals, who acquired him on July 28 along with right-hander Giovanny Gallegos for first baseman Luke Voit and $1 million in international signing bonus pool allocation.
