Wed Jan 30 201313:22Angerer triggers minor 2013 salary escalator
Colts ILB Pat Angerer's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $630,000 based on rookie-deal incentives.
Angerer started 27 games over his first two seasons and recorded 236 tackles in that span after being a 2010 second-round pick. However, he suffered a broken foot in the 2012 preseason while the Colts were transitioning to the 3-4 defense. Angerer then fell behind Kavell Conner and Jerrell Freeman on the depth chart. He's expected to be ready for training camp after needing a second foot surgery this offseason.

Angerer will return to an every-down role shortly.

Fri Oct 19 201213:33Pat Angerer to play off the bench
Colts ILB Pat Angerer (foot) will be active for Week 7 against the Browns, but will come off the bench.
Jerrell Freeman will get the start. The two inside 'backers figure to form a rotation, creating an IDP situation to avoid. Indy's leading tackler a season ago, Angerer has been sidelined since breaking his foot two months ago. When fully healthy, Angerer should return to the lineup as an every-down player.

Mon Aug 13 201215:15Colts MLB Angerer breaks foot, out six weeks
Colts MLB Pat Angerer suffered a broken foot in Sunday's preseason opener, and will be sidelined a minimum of six weeks.
The injury requires surgery. It's a huge blow for a run defense that ranked 29th in the league last season, as Angerer could miss upwards of 3-4 games. Angerer was fourth in the NFL with 148 tackles in 2011. He was expected to be the linchpin in new coach Chuck Pagano's 3-4 scheme. According to Pagano, Moise Fokou, Greg Lloyd, Jerrell Freeman and Mario Harvey will all compete for Angerer's spot, but the Colts will explore the free agent market. Keep in mind the Angerer injury for early-season matchup purposes. The Colts face the Bears (Matt Forte), Vikings (Toby Gerhart/Adrian Peterson), and Jaguars (Maurice Jones-Drew/Rashad Jennings) in the first three games.

Colts MLB Pat Angerer (knee) resumed practicing on a limited basis Thursday.
"It's been getting better," Angerer said before practice. "I'm excited and optimistic about it. I'm going to practice today, go out there and run around. (I want to) test it out and see how it feels. I think that's the main thing, seeing how sore it is tomorrow." Angerer's 112 tackles this season are second only to London Fletcher's 124.

Colts MLB Pat Angerer was unable to return to Sunday's game after suffering a right knee injury on the first play.
After the game, Angerer declined to specify the exact nature of his injury, but did say he was the victim of a crack-back block. "I thought it would loosen up, but it didn't. I couldn't plant on it," he said. Angerer is still tied for second in the NFL in tackles with 112, trailing only Redskins MLB London Fletcher.

Tue Sep 27 201109:38Angerer racks up 20 tackles
Colts LB Pat Angerer recorded 20 tackles in Sunday night's loss to the Steelers.
It's the most tackles by a Colt since Bob Sanders had 20 in 2005. Angerer, who was kicked to the middle to replace Gary Brackett (shoulder), posted 11 solo tackles. He's more than capable of eventually taking over for Brackett at middle linebacker full time.

Mon Mar 21 201111:52Colts see Angerer as Brackett's replacement
Colts president Bill Polian confirmed that Pat Angerer is viewed as Gary Brackett's eventual replacement at middle linebacker.
Brackett is signed through 2014, but turns 31 in May. Angerer, a second-round pick last season, started seven games at outside linebacker and four games in place of an injured Brackett as a rookie. He showed more than enough for the Colts to be excited about his outlook.

Wed Nov 3 201009:22Angerer starts over Wheeler
Colts rookie Pat Angerer drew the start at SLB over Philip Wheeler in Week 8.
"I thought he did a pretty good job for us the first time at that position," coach Jim Caldwell said of Angerer. "Made some mistakes, but he's the kind of guy that gets better every week. He played steady." Angerer is traditionally a middle linebacker, so he figures to improve with experience.

Fri Oct 29 201015:00Colts to bench Wheeler for Angerer?
The Colts are considering benching SLB Philip Wheeler in favor of second-round rookie Pat Angerer.
Angerer racked up a game-high 11 tackles, broke up two passes, and sacked Donovan McNabb in a spot start for MLB Gary Brackett in Week 6, so the Colts are thinking about rewarding him with a starting job on the strong side. Wheeler, a third-round pick in the 2008 draft, has struggled against the run.

Colts signed No. 63 overall pick LB Pat Angerer to a four-year, $3.14 million contract.
An All Big-Ten selection as Iowa's leading tackler last season, Angerer is expected to begin his career as MLB Gary Brackett's backup instead of competing for Phillip Wheeler's strong-side job. He'll be limited to special teams and situational work as a rookie.

Fri Apr 23 201023:35Angerer compared to Gary Brackett
Colts president Bill Polian compared second-round pick Pate Angerer's playing style to that of current starting MLB Gary Brackett.
It appears Angerer will be slotted in behind Brackett on the depth chart for the time being, instead of pushing SLB Phillip Wheeler. "Hopefully, he can come in and play a major role for us from Day One - in the nickel, on special teams," said Polian. Angerer won't be on the IDP radar in Indianapolis.

Fri Apr 23 201020:32Colts pick Pat Angerer
Colts selected Iowa LB Pat Angerer with the No. 63 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
The biggest surprise is that he went before teammate A.J. Edds. Angerer, who obviously has a great football name, was the Hawkeyes' leading tackler from the Mike 'backer spot to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior. Angerer also has experience outside. He could push Phillip Wheeler at the SAM position in Indy, or develop as a backup at all three spots.
