Thu Apr 18 201316:23Jeter (ankle) out until after All-Star break
Derek Jeter will be out until after the All-Star break after a CT scan revealed a small crack in his surgically-repaired ankle.
Terrible news for the Yankees. It's not exactly clear when the new injury occurred, but Jeter hasn't made much progress since his setback in the middle of spring training. The good news is that another surgery isn't required, but he's just going to have to wait for the bone to heal. Eduardo Nunez will continue to fill in at shortstop for now.

Derek Jeter had an unscheduled visit with his ankle surgeon Thursday afternoon in North Carolina.

Wed Apr 17 201309:06Girardi says Jeter hasn't suffered setback
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that Derek Jeter (ankle) has not experienced a setback.
Jeter has scaled back his workload in recent days, but Girardi thinks it's just a matter of him trying to push himself too soon. "Sometimes I think you can take too many ground balls," said Girardi. "They talked about lessening that load a little bit just because he was taking so many. Derek is such a creature of habit, to get him to break a cycle sometimes is difficult. He's going to want to do as much as he can as soon as he can, so we're just trying to make sure he doesn't go too fast. But there was no setback." Regardless of how the Yankees want to classify it, Jeter isn't close to playing in a game. While there was once hope that he would be ready to return around May 1, that appears very unlikely right now.

Tue Apr 16 201317:43Jeter no longer expected to return on May 1
Yankees manager Joe Girarid said Tuesday that a May 1 return for Derek Jeter (ankle) is very unlikely.
That's the date that Jeter and the Yankees' medical staff had been targeting, but it's simply not feasible anymore. Jeter is taking daily batting practice and fielding grounders at the Yankees' spring training complex in Tampa, Florida but he isn't close to appearing in rehab games. "He'll be back when he's back," said Girardi.

Derek Jeter (ankle) took five rounds of batting practice on Monday and also fielded 21 grounders at shortstop.
He also did some straight-line running in the outfield. Jeter took more grounders during his workouts last Wednesday and Friday, though there's nothing to suggest that he has suffered a setback with his ankle. While a recent report indicated that the Yankees were aiming for the 38-year-old to return around May 1, but he'll need to make some quick progress for that to happen.

Thu Apr 4 201315:49Yanks targeting May 1 for Derek Jeter debut
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Yankees are targeting May 1 for Derek Jeter's return.
That's far more reasonable than the mid-April estimates that have been thrown around. Jeter was able to begin playing catch earlier this week but still hasn't done any sort of infield work. He was placed on the disabled list March 31 with discomfort in his surgically-repaired left ankle and remains a risky fantasy bet.

Sun Mar 24 201309:56Derek Jeter 'sore,' held out of action Sunday
Derek Jeter will be held out of all activity Sunday after reporting soreness in his surgically-repaired left ankle.
"He's sore," general manager Brian Cashman said. Jeter was the DH during a minor league game Saturday, but he evidently didn't come out of it well. He also reportedly looked very timid on the basepaths. At this point, it's not looking good for Jeter being ready for Opening Day. If he is carried on the roster, he'll likely be limited to DH duty early on.

Sun Mar 24 201308:32Opening Day looking unlikely for Derek Jeter
George A. King III of the New York Post writes that Derek Jeter (ankle) "has to move a lot better than he did (Saturday) in order to be in the Opening Day lineup a week."
Jeter went 0-for-4 as the DH in a Triple-A game Saturday, and King said the future Hall of Famer did not look comfortable at all on the basepaths. "It takes time, but I was also cautious, the field was kind of wet and I almost wiped out twice coming out of the box, but that is something you build up to,'' Jeter said. King believes that Jeter would be used as a DH initially in the event he is carried on the Opening Day roster, as it's not clear when he'll resume playing the field. That would mean Eduardo Nunez starting at shortstop.

The Yankees will continue to hold Jeter out of Grapefruit League action for the rest of spring training in case they need to backdate a DL stint. Jeter remains hopeful that he'll be ready for the start of the season.

Wed Mar 20 201312:11Derek Jeter (ankle) could start season on DL
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman hasn't ruled out the possibility that Derek Jeter (ankle) could begin the season on the disabled list.
Jeter was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to mild inflammation in his surgically-repaired left ankle and received an anti-inflammatory injection on Wednesday. It's not a major setback, but the Yankees want him to play a full nine innings and back-to-back games before Opening Day. He could still pull that off, but it all depends on how the ankle responds in the coming days.
