Thu Aug 9 2012 | 23:51 | Brett Wallace has three hits in loss to Nats |
Brett Wallace provided most of the Astros offense, going 3-for-4 with a double in a losing effort against the Nationals on Thursday. |
On a night where the Astros offense was only able to generate five total hits, Wallace was the clear standout. He's done a very nice job in limited at-bats to this point of the season, hitting .319 (22-for-69) with four homers and eight RBI. He should continue to play on a nightly basis while hitting in the middle of the Astros lineup, making him well worthy of a play at corner infield or utility in deeper mixed formats. |

Tue Jul 17 2012 | 09:07 | Astros likely to call up Brett Wallace soon |
Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow hinted Monday that Brett Wallace will soon be called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City. |
Wallace is plenty deserving of a look at first base, as he batted .333 (12-for-36) with two homers in 11 games with the Astros last month and is hitting .289/.361/.484 with 13 home runs, 46 RBI and an .844 OPS in 75 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. "Obviously, I think he's capable of helping us win some ballgames, but I feel good about the guys we have on the roster right now," explained Luhnow. "There's a lot of scenarios [in which] he comes up in the not-too-distant future and spends the rest of the season with us." He'll be worth using in NL-only leagues upon his arrival. |

Sun Jul 8 2012 | 11:18 | Brett Wallace could be recalled |
Astros manager Brad Mills said Brett Wallace has "definitely got to be in the mix" for a call-up after the All-Star break. |
Wallace batted .333/.415/.583 with the Astros over 11 games last month and is hitting .290 with 13 homers and 46 RBI at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. "We've talked about him," Mills said. "I don't think we've reached, to my knowledge, a decision on what we are going to do there, but he's definitely got to be in the mix simply because of what he did when he was here and what he continues to do in Oklahoma City." The 'Stros have been going with Chris Johnson at first base of late, with Matt Dominguez and Scott Moore sharing third base. |

Astros optioned 1B Brett Wallace to Triple-A Oklahoma City. |
Wallace registered a cool .333/.415/.583 batting line in 11 games with Houston, but he was no longer needed with Carlos Lee returning to full health. The 25-year-old Wallace should get another shot later this summer. |

Sun Apr 1 2012 | 15:24 | Wallace optioned to Triple-A, will play 3B |
Astros optioned INF Brett Wallace to Triple-A Oklahoma City. |
He'll be the regular third baseman there. There's a reason Wallace was moved across the diamond, but if the Astros are convinced he can play there adequately, he has a good chance of unseating Chris Johnson at the hot corner eventually. |

Brett Wallace connected on his first homer this spring -- a 3-run blast against the Marlins on Monday. |
The shot came off of Miami's Wade LeBlanc, who had not given up a run in 10 1/3 innings. Wallace is now hitting a cool .321/.387/.536 in 28 at-bats. Meanwhile, LeBlanc settled down after giving up the home run, and now boasts a 0.61 ERA and 0.41 WHIP through 14 2/3 frames. |

Wed Feb 8 2012 | 10:27 | Wallace to take some grounders at third base |
Astros manager Brad Mills said Wednesday on 1560-AM in Houston that Brett Wallace will take grounders at third base during spring training. |
Wallace began his professional career as a third baseman as a farmhand with the Cardinals, but he made the move over to first base following trades to Oakland and Toronto. His defensive chops are still questionable, but some versatility could help his chances of providing value to the Astros with Carlos Lee expected to serve as the club's starting first baseman this season. |

Sat Nov 19 2011 | 13:20 | Wallace released from Dominican Winter League |
Brett Wallace was released from the Dominican Winter League earlier this week, according to Steve Campbell of the Houston Chronicle. |
It's not unprecedented for players to get released from winter ball, but it's worth noting that Wallace continues to regress since turning over the first base job to veteran Carlos Lee. A former first-round pick of the Cardinals, Wallace finished the 2011 season with a .259 average, five homers, and 29 RBIs in 336 at-bats. The Astros were hoping for a better winter performance, but GM Ed Wade still expects him to come in and compete for a backup job in spring training. |

Sun Jul 31 2011 | 21:48 | Astros send struggling Wallace to minors |
Astros optioned Brett Wallace to Triple-A Oklahoma City. |
The former top prospect hit .388 in April and looked like the real deal, but quickly regressed and heads to the minors with a .268/.345/.375 slash line. The power never came, as Wallace mustered just four homeruns in 317 AB. He'll need to figure out his swing at Triple-A before rejoining the big league club. |

Mon Jul 25 2011 | 19:43 | Wallace likely to lose playing time |
Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle writes that Brett Wallace's "playing time is going down for a while." |
While Wallace still has a decent .279 batting average to go along with a healthy .355 on-base percentage this season, he's batting just .236 since the start of May. While Brad Mills will pick his spots for Wallace going forward, this arrangement will likely mean more playing time for the speedy Jason Bourgeois. He is starting in left field Monday night against the Cardinals while Carlos Lee plays first base. |

Sun Jul 10 2011 | 16:00 | Brett Wallace has first two-RBI day |
Brett Wallace went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Houston's loss to the Marlins on Sunday. |
Astoundingly, the multi-RBI day was his first of the season. He's the owner of a solid .285/.364/.406 triple slash entering the All-Star break, but has just four home runs and 25 RBI to show for it. He's not a legitimate fantasy option in 10-to-12 team mixed leagues. |

Brett Wallace went 0-for-4 in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. |
Wallace continues to struggle to produce runs despite batting in the middle of Houston's lineup. He has just four RBI and no homers in 17 June games. Owners should be able to do better at the ultra-deep first base position. |

Brett Wallace went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Reds. |
Wallace missed some time over the weekend with a sore hip, but he's picked up right where he left off. The first baseman is now batting .383 with two homers and 10 RBI on the year, also contributing nine doubles. We'd like to see some more longballs, but those should come in time. |
