Sun Sep 14 201412:25Toon healthy scratch for Sunday's Week 2 contest against Browns
Toon is healthy scratch for Sunday's Week 2 contest against the Browns, ESPN.com's Mike Triplett reports.
For the second straight week, Toon will be a spectator as the Saints opt to go with four receivers. He'll likely need long-term injuries to both Marques Colston and Kenny Stills in order to ascend to fantasy relevance.
Sun Sep 7 201412:20Toon inactive for Sunday's contest in Atlanta
Toon is inactive for Sunday's contest in Atlanta, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Despite missing Kenny Stills due to his lingering quad concern, Toon isn't getting the call in Week 1. Drew Brees will instead direct his passes to the likes of Marques Colston, Joseph Morgan, and Brandin Cooks.

Toon is listed as the backup to Marques Colston on the Saints' initial depth chart, report the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Though technically ahead of rookie Brandin Cooks on the depth chart, Toon is essentially a Colston clone, with his superior size and athleticism, so it makes sense that he would fall behind Colston on the depth chart. Expect Cooks to see more time playing out of the slot, with Toon's fantasy value more directly tied to Colston's health.

Despite playing the majority of his snaps with the first-team offense, Toon didn't catch a pass on two targets in Saturday's third preseason game against the Colts.
Though Toon's night was uninspiring, the big news was that presumed starter Kenny Stills aggravated his quadriceps injury in Saturday's exhibition, which could put his Week 1 status in doubt. Toon is a different type of receiver than Stills, but he could still be in line for a bump in snaps, along with rookie Brandin Cooks, if Stills is forced to miss any regular season time with the injury.

Starting in place of Kenny Stills (quad), Toon caught one pass for six yards on two targets in Friday's preseason game against the Titans.
Toon is unlikely to push Stills for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, and rookie first-round pick Brandin Cooks appears destined for slot duties. That leaves Toon as the likely No. 4 wide receiver, a role that means more in New Orleans than nearly anywhere else. Should he in fact enter the season as the Saints' No. 4 wideout, Toon would be just one injury away from regular playing time in a high-powered offense.

Toon caught three passes for 11 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Rams.
WHile the production was nothing to write home about, more importantly was the fact that Toon played significant snaps with the Saints' nominal starting unit. Lining up opposite Marques Colston at times in the first quarter, the early playing time could be indicative that the Saints view Toon as a big part of their offensive scheme. If Toon can continue to earn reps with the starters, he could be a player to keep an eye on in deeper leagues.

Toon is listed as a second-string wide receiver on the Saints' unofficial depth chart released in advance of Friday's preseason opener.
While preseason depth charts should almost always be taken with a grain of salt, as the regular season is still nearly a month away, Toon unsurprisingly lands behind first-teamers Marques Colston and Kenny Stills. Also listed on the second team with Toon is Robert Meachem, and Brandin Cooks and Andy Tanner are positioned on the third team. Toon has impressed this offseason and he has a real shot at being a fantasy factor, particularly in deeper leagues as a red zone target, given his prototypical size and athleticism.
Thu Jul 31 201411:10Nick Toon impressing at Saints camp
The Times-Picayune has named Nick Toon one of the most impressive players at Saints camp so far.
Toon has "consistently come up with catches on nearly every pass pattern." It sounds like rapid improvement from last season, when he played on just 205 snaps and was active for just eight games, looking overmatched when asked to fill in for Lance Moore.

Toon has consistently come up with catches on nearly every pass pattern during training camp through the first five days, increasing his chance of breaking into a more established role in the Saints offense, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
After sitting out all of his rookie year in 2012 with a foot injury, the Wisconsin product struggled in 2013 and was used sparingly in the offense. Toon, however, has the size and hands that made him an ideal eventual replacement for Marques Colston when the team took him in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. If Toon can master the complete route tree and make the typical progress of wideouts between their second and third years in the league, he could find a steady role in the Saints high-powered attack.
Thu Jun 12 201422:04Toon has 'edge' on NO's fourth receiver spot
The Times-Picayune's Katherine Terrell believes WR Nick Toon as the "edge" in the battle for the Saints' fourth receiver job.
Terrell is the second Saints' reporter to single out Toon in the last month. ESPN's Mike Triplett recently said Toon could see "significant" playing time this season. Marques Colston, Kenny Stills, and rookie Brandin Cooks are locked in as the top-three, but Toon appears to be in the drivers seat for the No. 4 wide receiver duties in New Orleans this season.

Sat May 24 201413:52Toon has a shot at 'significant' playing time
ESPN Saints' reporter Mike Triplett believes WR Nick Toon has a chance at "significant" playing time this season.
Triplett admits Toon could be cut if he struggles in the preseason, but he sees a "much better chance" Toon cracks the top-four wide receivers in New Orleans and earns a fair amount of playing time. Toon only saw 12 targets in 205 offensive snaps last season and was primarily used as a blocker. He can be safely ignored in fantasy leagues.

Sat May 3 201418:06Saints still high on WR Toon's potential
ESPN's Mike Triplett reports the Saints remain high on Nick Toon's potential.
Toon struggled when filling in for Lance Moore last season and was active for just eight games as a rookie. He should open training camp as the No. 4 wideout depending on what the Saints do in the draft. If Toon can put together a strong preseason, Joe Morgan and Robert Meachem will likely be competing for one roster spot.

Mon Nov 4 201308:48Nick Toon struggles while subbing for Colston
Nick Toon had no catches on four targets in Sunday's Week 9 loss to the Jets.
Subbing for an inactive Marques Colston (knee), Toon led all Saints wideouts with 55 snaps and 43 routes run. He also led them with ineffective play. Toon had a brutal drop on a perfectly thrown deep ball early on and then had a pass clang off his hands for an interception later. From there, Drew Brees appeared hesitant to throw the second-year man the ball.

Sat Aug 10 201304:46Nick Toon solid in preseason opener
Saints WR Nick Toon caught four passes for 66 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Chiefs.
Rookie Kenny Stills is in the driver's seat for No. 3 wideout duties following Joe Morgan's ACL tear, but Toon is making a case for playing time. He's also Marques Colston's top backup. Toon certainly has a roster spot sewn up.

Tue Jul 30 201315:14Nick Toon 'continues to standout' in camp
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, second-year WR Nick Toon "continues (to) standout" in Saints camp.
A 2012 fourth-rounder, Toon missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury. He's fighting for a spot in the slot behind starter Marques Colston. It's too soon to forecast Toon's fantasy value, but any Saints receiver is worth keeping an eye on.
