Fri Dec 30 201114:05Chiefs RB Battle ruled out for Week 17
Jackie Battle (foot) has been ruled out for Week 17 at Denver.
Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster, and even LeRon McClain project to see more touches on Sunday. The matchup sets up for a pass-heavy game plan for Kyle Orton and the Chiefs.

Thu Dec 29 201116:04Jackie Battle held out again on Thursday
Jackie Battle (foot) missed practice again on Thursday.
Battle is not expected to be available for the season finale at Denver. Showing severely limited lateral agility in his stint as a timeshare back, Battle will close out the season with a career-high 597 yards on 149 carries for a 4.0 YPC average.

Wed Dec 28 201112:06Jackie Battle doubful for Week 17
Jackie Battle (foot) is doubtful for Week 17.
Battle sustained his injury in last week's overtime loss to the Raiders and was in a walking boot Wednesday. Aging plodder Thomas Jones will be the feature back against the Broncos Sunday, with Dexter McCluster in line for more touches than usual.

Thu Dec 15 201111:00Crennel plans to run the ball more
Interim coach Romeo Crennel said he plans on instituting a more run-heavy game plan over the final three weeks.
Easier said than done. The Chiefs haven't been able to utilize their difference-making run blockers because they have been trailing in so many games this year. They also don't have a back capable of exploiting holes. Jackie Battle and the entire running game is hands off against the Packers Sunday.

Sun Dec 11 201116:46Battle goes for 33 yards in loss
Jackie Battle rushed 10 times for 33 yards against the Jets in Week 14, adding two catches for 26 yards.
Better than Battle's pathetic 11-carry, 15-yard performance in Week 13, but still nothing to change to his status as a non-entity in 10-12 team leagues. Battle simply lacks any explosiveness, and was only able to reach 33 yards because the Jets sat back in zone coverage as they protected a big lead in the second half. If you can't do better in 14-team leagues, your championship hopes are likely in danger.

Mon Nov 28 201100:17Jackie Battle stymied in loss
Jackie Battle rushed nine times for 20 yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
That comes out to 2.2 yards per tote for Battle, who has now failed to eclipse 10 carries in three consecutive games. With the Chiefs content to rotate looks among Battle, Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster at running back, Battle is no longer anything more than a pure desperation play in 12 team leagues.

Tue Nov 22 201100:18Battle predictably unproductive in loss
Jackie Battle rushed the ball eight times for 33 yards in the Chiefs' loss to the Patriots in Week 11.
He added one catch for three yards. When the Chiefs are playing from behind, Battle is going to struggle to see the field. That could easily be the case in every game for the rest of the year, so dropping him for a hot free agent is where the smart money is heading.

Sun Nov 13 201121:28Battle runs for 61 yards in loss to Broncos
Jackie Battle ran the ball nine times for 61 yards in the Chiefs' 17-10 loss to the Broncos in Week 10.
True to form, as the Chiefs fell behind in a game in which 10 points were valued more like 20, they turned to Dexter McCluster to get both the run and pass games going. Battle charged like an elephant on a 34-yard run behind some solid blocking, but averaged just 3.38 yards per carry on the rest of his runs. Owners need to monitor the point spreads and opponents he faces carefully, as game-flow and score will dictate if he is effective.

Sun Nov 6 201116:33Jackie Battle struggles as Chiefs fall
Jackie Battle managed just 40 yards on 14 carries and caught a nine-yard pass in the Chiefs' Week 9 loss to Miami.
Falling behind early is always going to be a bad situation for an early-down running back like Battle. The holes weren't there for Kansas City's power runner in the first two frames, and the Chiefs were forced to resort to the pass after falling behind big in the second half. Battle's talent continues to underwhelm, but he's got at least 15 touches in four straight games. He'll have a more favorable situation against the Broncos in Week 10.

Tue Nov 1 201102:04Battle grinds for 70 yards and a score in W8
Jackie Battle rushed 19 times for 70 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' overtime win over the Chargers in Week 8.
Aside from being a big body that knows to hit the hole and fall forward, he is easily the slowest and least elusive lead back in the league. As long as the Chiefs are winning, however, that will equate to about 20 touches per game and touchdown potential. The Chiefs get Miami at home next week and Battle will be a low-upside RB2/flex option once again.

Sun Oct 23 201119:48Battle leads the Chiefs in carries Sunday
Jackie Battle rushed 16 times for 76 yards in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
Thomas Jones started and LeRon McClain was the goal-line back. But Battle was clearly the Chiefs' best runner, consistently moving the pile and powering through arm tackles. Over the last two games, Battle is averaging 5.57 yards per carry on 35 totes. He'll get the majority of carries once again against the Chargers next week, serving as a low-upside flex option in fantasy.

Sat Oct 22 201112:30Muir confirms Battle in line for most carries
OC Bill Muir confirmed Friday that Jackie Battle will serve as the Chiefs' feature back for the time being.
"We basically have a plan in terms of not equally distributing the carries," Muir said. Battle is averaging 5.4 yards through his first 29 carries, and could be in line for as many as 25 totes against the Raiders on Sunday. Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster should both receive in the neighborhood of five touches.

Thu Oct 20 201112:32Jackie Battle ready to go for Chiefs
Jackie Battle (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Battle is a full go as the Chiefs come out of their bye. He's a strong bet to lead the Kansas City's backfield in touches against a Raiders' defense that is yielding 4.9 yards per carry on the season. Battle is our No. 25 running back play this week.

Mon Oct 17 201112:37Jackie Battle expected to be ready
Jackie Battle (head) is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
The bye week came at a good time for Battle, who need to recover after his 21-touch outing in Week 5. He's also earning praise from coach Todd Haley. "I'm just happy Jackie has seized his opportunity - and he's getting better. Like anybody, getting to play and gain some experience has been really huge for him," Haley said. Battle is a good bet to lead the Chiefs' backfield in touches again this week.

Tue Oct 11 201119:07Jackie Battle 'fine,' just a little dinged up
Chiefs RB Jackie Battle insists he's "fine" and "just a little dinged up" after being held out of Tuesday's bye-week practice.
"(The injuries) are not too bad, I don't think," coach Todd Haley said. "Just from the nature of how many snaps that Jackie played ... you won't see [him] do a whole bunch." It sounds like Battle escaped a concussion after taking a hit to the back of his head on his last carry of the game. He should be fine for Week 7 against the Raiders. Pick him just after Tim Tebow on this week's waiver wire.

Tue Oct 11 201118:25Jackie Battle held out of bye-week practice
Jackie Battle (head) was held out of Tuesday's bye-week practice.
We noticed that Battle took a serious hit to the head late in last week's breakout game against the Colts. Battle was able to walk off under his own power, but may have to pass concussion tests this week. Either way, he's a good bet to be cleared in time for Week 7 against the Raiders.

Sun Oct 9 201118:47Jackie Battle rushes for 119 yards
Jackie Battle led the Chiefs with 19 carries for 119 yards and caught two passes for 21 yards in the team's Week 5 win over Indianapolis.
Despite his impressive pre-draft measurables, Battle doesn't play like he runs a 4.4 forty. He's a slow, plodding runner without short-area burst. Clearly motivated, however, Battle wore down the Colts' defense with tough running and kept his legs moving, consistently falling forward. Battle certainly can get what's blocked, just don't think of this as a sign of things to come. The Chiefs have a Week 6 bye before taking on the Raiders next.

Thu Oct 6 201114:14Haley: Battle will get more opportunities
Coach Todd Haley confirmed that Jackie Battle will receive "more and more opportunities" going forward.
It would be just like Haley to finally bench Thomas Jones for the career special teamer after letting Jones carry the ball more than Jamaal Charles last season. A tweener halfback/fullback with decent speed for a 240-pounder, Battle has averaged a scant 3.0 yards per on 51 career carries. In a dismal offense, he's only worth rostering in deep leagues.

Thu Oct 6 201111:16Jackie Battle earning a role with Chiefs?
The Kansas City Star suggests Jackie Battle could get more reps at running back going forward.
Battle has been a special teamer and mere depth, but it's desperation time in Kansas City. When the Chiefs needed a key first down late in the Week 4 win over the Vikings, they turned to Battle -- not Thomas Jones. "He's big and fast," Haley said. That's more than the coach can say about Jones, Le'Ron McClain or Dexter McCluster. It's just another reminded to avoid Jones in fantasy.
