Chiefs RB Jackie Battle is unlikely to beat out Dexter McCluster for a roster spot.
Battle has been given the ball 21 times in Kansas City's first two preseason games, taking it 69 yards. That comes out to an average of 3.3 yards per tote, which just isn't getting it done for a player with a career average of 3.6 yards on 41 carries through his first four NFL seasons.

Fri Mar 4 201111:25Battle, Castille fail to draw tender offers
The Chiefs failed to extend tenders to potential restricted free agents RB Jackie Battle, FB Tim Castille, and OL Ryan O'Callaghan.
All three players will become unrestricted free agents. Battle has managed just 41 attempts in four seasons with the Chiefs, averaging a scant 2.9 yards per. O'Callaghan lost the starting right tackle job to Barry Richardson last season.

Fri Sep 3 201013:06Battle vs. Jones for Chiefs in short yardage
The Chiefs are expected to decide between Jackie Battle and Thomas Jones to be their primary short-yardage back.
Battle secured a roster spot with a 5.1 preseason yards-per-carry average and special teams production. He also was used in short yardage in the team's final two exhibition games. Battle did most of his damage against third-stringers, however, and Jones and Jamaal Charles will get the vast majority of the rushing load. Jones is probably the favorite for goal-line work.
