Sat Jun 22 201316:07Flaherty singles in loss to Blue Jays
Ryan Flaherty went 1-for-3 with a single and two strikeouts Saturday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
One of the least productive hitters in the majors, Flaherty is hitting just .184 with three homers through 50 games this season. Imagine how much scarier the Orioles' offense would be if they even received league-average production at second base. His playing time could come to an end if Brian Roberts (hamstring) can avoid a setback during his rehab assignment.

Wed May 29 201315:16O's recall INF Flaherty from Triple-A
Orioles recalled INF Ryan Flaherty from Triple-A Norfolk.
Flaherty really struggled in his first stint with the Orioles this season, batting just .133/.228/.233 in 90 at-bats. He can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Sat May 11 201322:21Ryan Flaherty fine after getting hit by pitch
Ryan Flaherty said after Saturday's loss to the Twins that his hand feels fine after being hit by a pitch.
The pitch only caught half of his hand. He said that he'll be able to play on Sunday if he's in the starting lineup.

Sat Apr 6 201320:31Flaherty starts second straight game Saturday
Ryan Flaherty started his second straight game at second base on Saturday afternoon.
The 26-year-old batted .216 with six home runs in 153 at-bats in 2012, so it's clear the Orioles don't have great options at the keystone behind Brian Roberts. Alexi Casilla will start for the Orioles on Sunday, and manager Buck Showalter said both players will get a chance to win the job until Roberts returns. The Orioles second base position will likely be a fantasy wasteland until that time.

Mon Mar 25 201321:16Ryan Flaherty to DH against RHP?
Orioles executive VP Dan Duquette indicated Monday that Ryan Flaherty is the favorite to be the club's designated hitter against right-handers following the Wilson Betemit injury.
"Wilson's strength is his left-handed bat against right-handed pitching, but (Ryan) Flaherty's got a good bat left-handed," Duquette said. Flaherty batted .216/.258/.359 with six homers over 167 plate appearances last year for the Orioles and has hit .239 with three homers this spring. It's not clear how long Betemit will be out, but the O's might eventually have to look for DH help outside the organization.

Fri Mar 15 201316:45Ryan Flaherty homers in 10th for Orioles
Ryan Flaherty hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th as the Orioles rallied to tie a Red Sox split-squad 3-3 on Friday.
The homer came off journeyman Oscar Villarreal. Flaherty is hitting just .241 this spring, but he has three homers and two doubles among his seven hits. It'll be interesting to see if the Orioles keep him around come Opening Day. Right now, they'd seem to have three bench spots going to Alexi Casilla, Nolan Reimold/Nate McLouth and backup catcher Taylor Teagarden. That'd leave just one spot, and it should probably go to one of the right-handed bats (Russ Canzler, Conor Jackson, Danny Valencia, Steven Pearce) capable of splitting time with Wilson Betemit and Chris Davis.

Thu Mar 7 201317:32Ryan Flaherty hits walkoff homer for Orioles
Ryan Flaherty hit a walkoff three-run homer off Neil Wagner as the Orioles beat the Blue Jays 11-10 on Thursday.
Flaherty improved to 4-for-17 this spring. The Orioles appear committed to Alexi Casilla as a utilityman, so if Brian Roberts stays healthy, Flaherty, a Rule 5 pick a year ago, could be sent to Triple-A to play regularly at the beginning of the season.

Wed Oct 10 201215:31Flaherty starting at second base in Game 3
Ryan Flaherty will start at second base in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Yankees on Wednesday.
Robert Andino started at second base in Game 2 with left-hander Andy Pettitte on the hill, but Flaherty is back in there with right-hander Hiroki Kurdoa on the bump for the Bombers. Nate McLouth is hitting leadoff Wednesday and will be followed by J.J. Hardy, Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Jim Thome, Mark Reynolds, Flaherty and Manny Machado.

Fri Sep 28 201223:43Flaherty homers, plates five in O's rout
Ryan Flaherty blasted a grand slam homer and drove home five runs as the Orioles routed the Red Sox 9-1 on Friday night.
Flaherty finished the game 2-for-4 with a homer, double, two runs scored and five RBI. It was far and away the finest offensive effort in the 26-year-old rookie's career. In limited duty, he's hitting .232/.276/.387 with six homers and 19 RBI in 142 at-bats.

Sun Aug 12 201208:49Ryan Flaherty to begin rehab assignment
Ryan Flaherty (bacterial infection) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk Tuesday.
He's been out since August 1 with a bacterial infection that caused severe swelling in his tonsils. Flaherty shouldn't need too many rehab games before returning later this month.

Fri Aug 10 201223:34Flaherty could begin rehab stint next week
Ryan Flaherty (bacterial infection) could begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Flaherty hasn't played since August 1 due to a bacterial infection that caused severe swelling in his tonsils. He's still waiting for the swelling to fully subside, but has experienced significant improvement after being put on antibiotics. The Rule 5 picks should be back later this month if all goes well.

Thu May 10 201218:37Ryan Flaherty hits first big-league homer
Ryan Flaherty hit his first big-league homer leading off the bottom of the first against the Rangers' Colby Lewis on Thursday.
It was the first of three straight homers hit by the O's, as J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis followed with their own solo shots. The last team to do that to start a game was the Brewers on Sept. 9, 2007, when Rickie Weeks, Hardy and Ryan Braun all homered to start a game against the Reds. It was the first time it had happened in Orioles history. Flaherty followed up his homer with strikeouts in each of his remaining three at-bats. He's not currently an option in AL-only leagues.

Wed May 9 201215:38Ryan Flaherty batting leadoff Wednesday
Ryan Flaherty will start in left field and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Rangers.
Endy Chavez has been one of the least productive hitters in the game this season, so Flaherty has a chance to earn some extra starts in left field while Nolan Reimold is on the mend. The Rule 5 pick is hitting just .154 (4-for-26) with zero extra-base hits over 12 games this season, so we're not optimistic, though.

Sun Apr 15 201211:17Ryan Flaherty to make first start Sunday
Orioles Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty will make his major league debut at second base Sunday.
Flaherty is more offensive-oriented than a utility guy, as evidenced by his 19 homers and 88 RBI in the minor leagues last season. With Brian Roberts (concussion) still without a timetable, it's not unrealistic to think he could play his way into semi-regular at-bats.

Fri Apr 13 201220:19Flaherty to make first start this weekend
Orioles Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty will make his first career start at third base either Saturday or Sunday against the Blue Jays.
He's unlikely to make an impact in fantasy circles unless he can finagle his way into everyday at-bats. He does have some pop in his bat though, evidenced by his 19 homers and 88 RBI in the minor leagues a season ago.

Mon Apr 2 201217:29Flaherty makes O's Opening Day roster
Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty has made the Orioles' Opening Day roster.
Flaherty, who was selected from the Cubs in December's Rule 5 Draft, is batting .232 (13-for-56) with five extra-base hits (one home run), 10 RBI and a stolen base this spring. The 25-year-old will function as a utility infielder and is unlikely to carry any fantasy value initially.

Wed Mar 14 201209:58Flaherty to get playing time at first base
Orioles' manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday that Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty will get some time at first base this spring.
Flaherty has played first base just four times in his professional career (all with Double-A Tennessee last year), but the O's want to test his versatility with a potential utility infield job in mind. The 25-year-old is batting .316 (6-for-19) with one home run and five RBI during Grapefruit League play.
