Alvarez is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Marlins, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez sat out Tuesday's game because of the lefty on the mound in Brad Hand. There's another southpaw in Chris Narveson toeing the rubber Wednesday, and he'll take a seat once again in favor of Mike Morse at first base.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

After starting the last three games at first base, Alvaraez will give way to Michael Morse as the Pirates go up against Miami left-hander Brad Hand.

Alvarez went 1-for-3, hitting his 20th homer of the season and driving in another run on a sac-fly in a win over the Giants Sunday.

While his bat accounted for two runs, the defensively-challenged first baseman gave back two runs with his glove, committing errors in the second and fifth inning that each led to one run. Alvarez's poor defense has made it difficult for the Pirates to use him for the entire game --- he exited the seventh inning on Sunday for a defensive replacement --- but his offense prowess might be too difficult to remove in the midst of a playoff race.

Alvarez went hitless in two at-bats before being pulled for defensive replacement Sean Rodriguez on Saturday.

The team continues to remove the defensively-challenged first baseman whenever it holds a lead after six or seven innings. Alvarez is hitless over his last seven at-bats spread over four contests but entered Saturday with four homers, 11 RBI and a .333/.358/.608 slash line in 51 August at-bats.

Alvarez is out of Friday's lineup against the Giants.

Alvarez will be shielded from the tough left-hander in Madison Bumgarner on Friday. As a result, Sean Rodriguez will replace him at first base, batting eighth for the Pirates.

Alvarez is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

Alvarez will join Neil Walker as the two lefties receiving the day off with the left-handed Robbie Ray on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Mike Morse will receive the start in his place Wednesday, batting eighth for the Pirates.

Alvarez continued his recent hot streak, providing all of the offense for the Pirates with a solo home run Monday.

Alvarez has now homered in back-to-back games and in four of his last seven contests, bringing his total for the season to 19. The first baseman has also hit for average of late, batting .357 this month. Alvarez now has more homers than he did a year ago, and is on pace to have his best batting average since his rookie season in 2010.

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a run Sunday against the Mets.

Alvarez provided the only run off of starter Matt Harvey, though the Pirates put up seven more runs after a 42-minute rain delay in the sixth inning. He now has 18 homers, three of which have come in his last six games.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Saturday, the Pittsburgh Tribune's Travis Sawchik reports.

Despite totaling nine hits, and four of the extra-base variety, over his last five games, Alvarez finds himself on the bench to start Saturday's game with lefty Jon Niese on the mound for the Mets. Look for the Pirates to get Alvarez's hot bat back in the lineup Sunday against righty Matt Harvey.

Alvarez extended his hitting streak to five games with a 2-for-4 effort against the Mets on Friday.

He has nine hits in his last 18 at-bats and even made a fine defensive snag at first base Friday. Alvarez has hit seven homers and driven in 24 runs in his last 30 starts since July 1. He's hot right now and likely deserves fantasy consideration.

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with his 16th homer -- a 446-foot shot -- in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Despite the acquisition of Michael Morse, he continues to see the bulk of starts at first base, with Sean Rodriguez often serving as a defensive replacement. Alvarez has hit four homers in his last 47 at-bats, boosting his OPS to .742 (which is also his career average). His .843 careeer OPS at Busch Stadium is the highest in a divisional opponent's home park but the first baseman is hitless in nine at-bats versus Wednesday starter Michael Wacha.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Sunday night against the Dodgers.

Alvarez will take a seat with lefty Alex Wood on the mound for the opposing Dodgers. It will be the second time in three games that Alvarez has sat in favor of Mike Morse, with a southpaw taking the hill for the opponent in each contest.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Friday against the Dodgers.

It's not a huge surprise that Alvarez will receive the day off considering Clayton Kershaw's presence on the mound Friday. The Pirates will instead turn to Mike Morse at first base, batting sixth, but Alvarez will likely rejoin the lineup Saturday with the right-handed Mat Latos scheduled to start.

Alvarez will serve as the designated hitter for Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

He reached base three times Tuesday at DH, going 2-for-4 with a walk. Alvarez is batting .304 over the past week with two homers, though he has yet to go on one of his patented tears. The Pirates have reportedly cooled from the idea they need to replace him at all costs, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the team at least pick up a platoon partner by the trade deadline.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Saturday against the Nationals.

Alvarez's poor numbers against lefties lands him on the bench Saturday with the Nationals turning to southpaw Gio Gonzalez on the mound. He has just five hits in his last 29 at bats against lefties, which is enough to leave him out of the lineup despite having hit home runs in each of his last two games. Sean Rodriguez will take Alvarez's place at first base.

Alvarez socked his second homer in as many nights Friday, going 1-for-3 with two RBI against Washington.

He's responded to rumors swirling around his imminent demise with 13 RBI in 17 July games. He sports a 2:25 BB:K ratio over that span but there's a chance he could be at the beginning of one of his patented power streaks. Alvarez now leads the Bucs with 14 dingers, one ahead of both Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte.

Alvarez belted his 13th homer -- and first since July 5 -- Thursday against Washington.

He went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI after a day of trade rumors and unflattering remarks attributable to the Pirates front office. It'd be surprising to see Alvarez serving as Pittsburgh's primary first base option for much longer, given the negativity swirling around the struggling infielder. He leads all first basemen with 15 errors and sports a disappointing .726 OPS.

Alvarez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

He got the start Tuesday against lefty Jason Vargas, his first start of the year against a southpaw, but went 0-for-3 and now finds himself on the bench in favor of Travis Ishikawa against right-hander Edinson Volquez. Alvarez is 0-for-9 with four walks and five strikeouts in his career against Volquez.

Alvarez will make his first start in 2015 against a left-handed pitcher Tuesday, batting sixth and serving as a designated hitter with Jason Vargas on the mound, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Alvarez has five hits in 28 at-bats against southpaws, but lefties are hitting Vargas at a .295 clip in 393 at-bats since 2013. Alvarez went 2-for-5 with two RBI as Pittsburgh's designated hitter Monday.

Alvarez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Brewers.

Alvarez has been dreadful this month to say the least, getting on base at a .174 clip and striking out 14 times in 44 at-bats. The occasional power burst should be enough for him to continue to see relatively consistent playing time, but don't be surprised if that too begins to fade, especially if these struggles are prolonged. Travis Ishikawa will handle first base duties Sunday afternoon.
