CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have placed closer Brandon Morrow on the 10-day disabled list with right biceps inflammation.Morrow has 22 saves and a 1.47 ERA in 35 games in his first season with the Cubs. The DL stint is retroactive to Monday.Morrow, who turns 34 on July 26, also spent time on the DL earlier this season with lower back tightness.The Cubs also activated outfielder Albert Almora Jr. and relievers Carl Edwards Jr. and Anthony Bass before Thursday night's game against St. Louis. RHP Anthony Bass was designated for assignment Thursday. He has allowed nine runs and 14 hits in 5 2/3 innings for Texas this season.

RHP Anthony Bass was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. The 29-year-old allowed six runs on 10 hits in three innings against Minnesota on April 25.

RHP Anthony Bass was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to make room for RHP A.J. Griffin. Bass was recalled Wednesday to replace LHP Cole Hamels and pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout.

RHP Anthony Bass had his contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, and he will serve as the long man out of the Texas bullpen. Bass had a 4.50 ERA in nine relief outings for Texas in spring training. He hadn't allowed a run in 8 1/3 innings for Round Rock.

RHP Anthony Bass was released by Seattle on Thursday to allow him to pursue an opportunity to pitch in Japan. Bass, 28, was acquired by the Mariners along with OF Leonys Martin from the Rangers in exchange for RHP Tom Wilhelmsen, OF James Jones and INF Patrick Kivlehan on Nov. 16. He spent the 2015 season with the Rangers, going 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 33 relief appearances. In five seasons with San Diego (2011-13), Houston (2014) and Texas (2015), Bass has compiled a 5-9 record with a 4.50 ERA in 129 games, including 18 starts.

Texas is off Thursday, but the team will recall right-handers Bass and Luke Jackson in advance of Friday's game in Seattle. Alex Claudio and Phil Klein will be optioned to Round Rock to clear roster spots. In 26 appearances for Texas this season, Bass holds a 4.35 ERA with 38 strikeouts and 14 walks in 51.2 innings.

Bass was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

Working as a mop-up man for the Rangers, he holds a 4.35 ERA in 51.2 innings across 26 appearances. Bass didn't help his case for remaining in the majors after Sunday's meltdown against the Angels, conceding three runs (two earned) without recording an out. He's replaced by Phil Klein in the Rangers' bullpen.

Bass could be in line to start Wednesday against the Angels, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Bass took over and pitched five innings following Derek Holland's injury and could fill in as his replacement in the rotation. It's still possible Bass is needed out of the bullpen either Monday or Tuesday, so no official announcement on Wednesday's starter has been made yet.

Bass gave up one run on four hits over five innings in Friday's game after starter Derek Holland left with a shoulder injury following the first inning.

He was remarkably efficient in the long relief outing, turning 63 pitches into 15 outs and minimizing the impact of Holland's early exit on the rest of the Texas bullpen. Considering that he would be on regular rest for Holland's next turn in the rotation, Bass may be a candidate for at least a spot start depending on how the Rangers want to address the vacancy. It's expected that Holland will miss at least six weeks with the injury.

Bass made the Opening Day roster, John Blake of the Rangers' official website reports.

Bass will likely work as a long reliever, having failed to win a spot in the starting rotation. He has plenty of experience in such a role, and while he doesn't offer much upside, Bass could be the organization's first choice to make a spot start this season.

Bass retired just two of the 11 hitters he faced during his start Friday.

The game was played in San Antonio, complete with a 275-foot line in right field, but the odd field dimensions had nothing to do with Bass' poor performance. He remains in competition for one of two open rotation spots, but outings like this one could eliminate him in short order.

Bass signed a minor league deal with the Rangers on Thursday, Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest reports.

Bass spent last season with the Astros, splitting time between the big league club and Triple-A Oklahoma City. He struggled in the majors, posting a 6.33 ERA, a regression from his 5.36 ERA in 42.0 innings for the Padres in 2013. Bass will likely begin the season in Triple-A in hopes of working his way into a call-up at some point.

Bass has struggled in the majors the past two seasons, posting a 5.36 ERA in 2013 and a 6.33 ERA in 2014 in 21 games. Some teams should have interest in signing him, but he may not get a spot on a big league roster out of spring training.

The Astros outrighted Bass to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.

Bass has appeared in at least 20 big league games in four straight seasons, but he gave up 19 earned runs in 27 innings out of the Astros' bullpen last season, so the team decided to take him off the 40-man roster. He could still get a chance to compete for a bullpen job during spring training, either with the Astros or another team.
