Sat Dec 2 202315:12Nick Lodolo, Graham Ashcraft On Track For Spring Training
Cincinnati Reds general manager Nick Krall said that starting pitchers Nick Lodolo (leg) and Graham Ashcraft (toe) are on track to be ready for spring training next year. Lodolo did not require surgery for an injured left tibia that limited him to only seven starts in his second big-league season in 2023. The young left-hander also dealt with a calf injury. Despite the injuries and basically a lost season, the 25-year-old southpaw has a lot of strikeout upside and will have a locked in spot in Cincy's starting rotation in 2024 as long as he's healthy. Lodolo had an ERA over 6.00 in his seven starts this year, but he posted a 3.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 131 K's in 103 1/3 innings in his rookie season in 2022. Ashcraft had surgery in September to fix a stress reaction in his big right toe. The 25-year-old righty went 7-9 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 26 starts in his second major-league campaign in 2023.

Thu Aug 31 202316:11Nick Lodolo Won't Return This Year
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) will not make it back this year after suffering a setback with his left-tibia stress reaction. Lodolo had a setback with his left leg during a minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Louisville last week, which sealed his fate. He'll finish his second major-league season with a 2-1 record, 6.29 ERA (5.80 FIP), 1.75 WHIP, 10 walks and 47 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings pitched over his seven starts. Through two seasons for the Reds to this point, the 25-year-old southpaw has a 4.31 ERA (4.37 FIP), 1.37 WHIP and 178 K's in 137 2/3 innings over 26 starts. Lodolo is still young and has plenty of strikeout upside, so he'll be a nice value selection late in fantasy drafts in 2024.

Tue Aug 22 202321:38Nick Lodolo Suffers Setback
Cincinnati Reds lefty Nick Lodolo (leg) completed his second rehab game on Sunday, but an MRI after the contest revealed he suffered a stress reaction in his left tibia, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. The hope was for the 25-year-old to return at some point in late August, but that seems very unlikely now. Lodolo hasn't pitched in the big leagues since May 6 after a leg issue forced him to the injured list. Prior to the injury, he posted a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP but struck out 47 over 34 1/3 innings. Fantasy owners may have to wait until 2024 to see Lodolo back on the mound, but he should continue missing a ton of bats when he's finally in action again.

Fri Aug 18 202312:25Nick Lodolo Fans Six In Rehab Start
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) looked good in his second minor-league rehab start earlier this week on Tuesday with Double-A Chattanooga, tossing three scoreless and hitless innings while walking two and striking out six. He threw 49 pitches in the outing and has struck out 10 batters in five innings in his first two rehab starts in the minors. The 25-year-old southpaw's next rehab start will come on Sunday at Triple-A Louisville, and that could be his final tune-up before rejoining the Reds' starting rotation for the stretch run. Lodolo has been out since May 6 due to a stress reaction in his tibia and he didn't look great in his seven starts before the injury, but his strikeout upside makes him attractive at least in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

Tue Aug 15 202312:09Nick Lodolo Moves Rehab To Double-A
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) is moving his minor-league rehab assignment from the Arizona Complex League to Double-A Chattanooga on Tuesday. Lodolo made his first rehab appearance in the Arizona Complex League last Friday and tossed two scoreless innings while striking out four. Barring a setback on his rehab assignment, the 25-year-old southpaw is expected to rejoin Cincy's starting rotation later this month after being out since early May with a stress reaction in his left tibia. Lodolo didn't have the best results on the mound earlier this year for the Reds before landing on the injured list, but he's worth a pickup in mixed leagues when he returns for his strikeout upside down the stretch.

Fri Aug 11 202320:04Nick Lodolo Starts Rehab Assignment Friday
The Cincinnati Reds sent left-hander Nick Lodolo (calf) on a minor-league rehab assignment at the Arizona Complex League on Friday. Lodolo is attempting to return from left-calf tendinosis. The 25-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched in the big leagues since May 6, so he will surely need at least a handful of starts to build up his pitch count. Barring a setback, though, he should be able to return to the Reds' starting rotation in late August. Lodolo didn't look good in his first seven starts in 2023 before his injury, as he surrendered 24 earned runs on 50 hits (10 home runs) while walking 10 and strikeout out 47 in 34 1/3 innings. Despite the rough start, Lodolo is worth picking up in any leagues where he was dropped. The young lefty has fanned 178 hitters in 137 2/3 frames in his first two big-league seasons to this point.

Fri Aug 4 202320:48Nick Lodolo To Throw Bullpen On Monday
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) is scheduled for a live bullpen session on Monday and then will throw two innings next Friday. It was announced over the weekend that Lodolo is now targeting a late-August return from the 60-day injured list alongside right-hander Hunter Greene (hip). The 25-year-old southpaw will give the Reds some more strikeout upside in their starting rotation down the stretch as they look to secure a postseason berth. Lodolo is worth a waiver-wire pickup if he's available in your fantasy league closer to his return date, but he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since May 6 and had a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in seven starts earlier this year before his injury.

Fri Jul 28 202321:02Nick Lodolo Could Return In August
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) threw a side session on Friday and will need more bullpen sessions before beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, but his target date for a return to the major leagues is now late August, moved up from September. The 25-year-old southpaw is no longer wearing a walking boot and has made solid progress of late. Barring setbacks, both Lodolo and hard-throwing right-hander Hunter Greene (hip) could return to Cincinnati's starting rotation in late August. Like Greene, Lodolo has plenty of fantasy upside because of his ability to miss bats, although he's likely available in more leagues because of his poor start to the year before his injury. In his seven starts, he had allowed 24 earned runs on 50 hits (10 home runs) while walking 10 and striking out 47 in 34 1/3 frames.

Wed Jul 26 202322:27Nick Lodolo Throws Side Session
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) threw his first side session on Tuesday in Arizona, and it went well, according to manager David Bell. Based on Lodolo's progression from a left-tibia stress reaction, he's unlikely to be back with the Reds until sometime in September. "That's kind of how I've been thinking about it. It's a little bit tough because there hasn't been a calendar yet," Bell said earlier in July. "That seems right to me." The 25-year-old southpaw has been sidelined since early May. Lodolo has plenty of strikeout upside, but he had posted a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 34 1/3 innings over seven starts before his injury and can probably be left to the waiver wire in most mixed leagues for the rest of the season.

Sat Jul 15 202309:35Nick Lodolo Continuing Throwing Program
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo (calf) played catch at the club's complex in Arizona recently. The 25-year-old embarked on a throwing program on July 3 as he slowly works his way back from a stress reaction in his left tibia. Lodolo has been out of action since early May with what was originally thought to merely be calf soreness before an MRI revealed something more significant. The southpaw is eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list in early August, but fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect him back until mid-to-late August. Lodolo's 6.29 ERA (34 1/3 innings) isn't pretty, but he should be stashed wherever possible with a promising 28.6% strikeout rate and 6.0% walk rate this campaign.

Fri Jun 30 202316:17Nick Lodolo To Start Rehab Program Monday
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg), who is rehabbing from a left-tibia stress reaction, had a positive MRI exam on Wednesday and showed improvement. He will have his walking boot removed on Monday and will report to Arizona to start a rehab program. It's nice progress for the 25-year-old southpaw, but he still has a ways to go to before he rejoins Cincinnati's starting rotation, which likely won't be until some point in August. He had a 6.29 ERA (5.81 FIP), 1.75 WHIP, 10 walks and 47 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings over seven starts before his injury, but Lodolo is deserving of being stashed in deep-mixed fantasy leagues because of his high strikeout upside when healthy.

Wed Jun 14 202321:36Nick Lodolo Could Return In Early August
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) had an encouraging MRI exam on Wednesday, but he remains in a walking boot, and an early August return is a best-case scenario. Lodolo remains on the injured list while recovering from a stress reaction in his left tibia, so he won't be back anytime soon for the Reds or fantasy managers. The 25-year-old southpaw last pitched on May 6 against the Chicago White Sox, and he's gone 2-1 in his second year in the majors with a rough 6.29 ERA (5.81 FIP), 1.75 WHIP, 10 walks, a league-high seven hit by pitches and 47 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings over his seven starts. Lodolo has a lot of strikeout upside and will have a rotation spot waiting for him when he's healthy, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues can probably leave him to the waiver wire until the second half of the season.

Thu Jun 1 202318:38Nick Lodolo To Remain In Walking Boot For Two More Weeks
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) will remain in a walking boot for the next two weeks, and he has yet to start a throwing progression. Lodolo is currently on the injured list with a stress reaction in his left tibia and won't return anytime soon. There's no reason for the Reds to rush the 25-year-old southpaw back into their starting rotation, either, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to return to the big leagues until sometime in July. He's probably been dropped by some fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues after struggling to the tune of a 6.29 ERA (5.82 FIP) and 1.75 WHIP in seven starts before his injury, but his upside is clear with 47 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings.

Wed May 17 202314:59Nick Lodolo Has Stress Reaction In Tibia
A follow-up MRI exam on Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (leg) showed a stress reaction in his left tibia. Lodolo is currently in a protective boot and will have another MRI exam in two weeks, according to manager David Bell. It's something that the 25-year-old southpaw has been dealing with since spring training, but he's now on the injured list and probably won't be returning to Cincy's starting rotation anytime soon. There's a lot of strikeout upside with him -- he has 47 punchouts in 34 1/3 innings over his seven starts this year -- but he's also sporting a bloated 6.29 ERA (5.84 FIP) with a league-high 10 home runs allowed, seven hit batters and a 1.75 WHIP.

Sun May 14 202312:08Nick Lodolo Placed On 15-Day IL
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo (calf) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday. The right-hander was scratched from Saturday's meeting with the Miami Marlins and returned to Cincy for an examination, where he was diagnosed with left calf tendinosis. Lodolo hasn't had a quality 2023 and is currently sitting on a 1-2 record in seven starts. He's also posted a 6.29 ERA while amassing 47 strikeouts and 10 walks.

Sat May 13 202311:05Nick Lodolo Scratched, Derek Law To Start Saturday
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (calf) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday against the Miami Marlins and has returned to Cincinnati for examination of his sore left calf. In his place, right-hander Derek Law will get the start as the opener. The 25-year-old Lodolo has dealt with a calf issue since spring training, so the Reds want to get this figured out before they go any further. There's a good chance he'll need to go on the injured list, so fantasy managers should be prepared. If Lodolo has to miss extended time, Levi Stoudt figures to be a favorite to take his place in the Reds' rotation in the short term. Lodolo has struggled so far in his second MLB season, posting a 6.29 ERA (5.83 FIP), 1.75 WHIP, 10 walks and 47 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings over his seven starts.

Sat May 13 202309:11Nick Lodolo Unable To Make Start On Saturday
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Lodolo (calf) has been scratched from his scheduled starting appearance against the Miami Marlins on Saturday. The 25-year-old can't shake the calf soreness that pushed back his original starting date with the Mets on Thursday. It's unclear at this stage if a mend on the injured list is a possibility for Lodolo, but if he gets a starting nod in Week 8 of fantasy, he'd either meet the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field or the New York Yankees in Cincinnati. The former first-round pick has struggled mightily after three encouraging starts to the year (2.12 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 17 innings), floundering to a disastrous 10.38 ERA over his last 17.1 innings of work across four starts.

Tue May 9 202322:37Nick Lodolo Pushed Back Due To Calf Issue
Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo (calf) is dealing with a sore left calf and is having his next start pushed back from Thursday to Saturday against the Miami Marlins so that he can get some extra rest. Right-hander Hunter Greene will pitch on Wednesday against the New York Mets, with the Reds listed as TBA for Thursday. Graham Ashcraft will go on Friday to kick off the weekend series against Miami. There's a good chance that Ben Lively will make the spot start for Cincy on Thursday. Lodolo could use the extra rest after pitching poorly in his last start, and he's now sporting a 6.29 ERA (5.88 FIP), 1.75 WHIP, 10 walks and 47 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings over his seven starts. His next matchup will be a better one against the Fish, but fantasy managers should still tread lightly.

Sun May 7 202308:52Nick Lodolo Struggles Again, Reds Win Anyway
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo permitted three runs in 3.2 innings for a no-decision against the White Sox on Saturday. After a promising end to 2022, the 25-year-old has been unable to build on that potential in 2023 thus far, notably failing to recover from an eight-run bludgeoning at the hands of the Rays back on April 18. The big southpaw's ERA now stands at 6.29 with an equally concerning 1.75 WHIP. The former seventh overall pick misses bats at an exceptional clip (12.3 K/9), but that's come at the cost of inducing a great deal of loud contact (.440 BABIP) as well. Perhaps a draw with the underachieving Mets offense on Thursday represents an opportune bounce-back spot for Lodolo, otherwise it might not be that far-fetched to start seeing his name scattered around the waiver wires of some redraft fantasy leagues.

Fri Apr 21 202308:10Reds Trying To Extend Nick Lodolo
After signing right-hander Hunter Greene to a long-term extension, the Cincinnati Reds are turning their attention toward locking up lefty Nick Lodolo, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The 25-year-old is in his second season at the big league level and is eligible for free agency after the 2027 season. If the Reds are successful, Lodolo looks like he'll be an anchor in their rotation for years to come. He's posted a 4.98 ERA thus far over four starts but owns a 29.8% strikeout rate, 6.7% walk rate, and a career 3.96 FIP. Lodolo is a must-start arm in almost every league with his electric stuff and ace potential.
