Wed Jun 27 201816:11Los Angeles Lakers extend qualifying offer to Julius Randle
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers have extended a $5.6 million qualifying offer to forward Julius Randle, making him a restricted free agent. The Lakers made the move Wednesday, ensuring they can match any offer sheet from another team signed by Randle starting on July 8.The 23-year-old Randle is coming off his best season with the Lakers, who chose him with the seventh overall pick in 2014. He averaged a career-high 16.1 points with 8.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists while playing in all 82 games. But the Lakers hope to be a major player in free agency next month, so it's unclear whether they will retain Randle. Thu Apr 12 201821:19Lakers' big summer looms after 5 straight losing seasons
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — And now the real season begins for the Los Angeles Lakers. At least that's what the fans of the 16-time NBA champions repeatedly have been told while Los Angeles missed the playoffs and finished with a losing record for the fifth consecutive year.Ever since they took over the Lakers' basketball operations a year ago, Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka have founded their rebuilding project around the acquisition of one or two elite free agents this summer — or next summer, they've recently amended.Magic firmly believes the Lakers' championship pedigree, glamorous location and salary cap room for two enormous contracts can attract superstars near the primes of their careers to lift one of the NBA's cornerstone franchises back to its accustomed heights. The Lakers had only missed the playoffs five previous times in their first 65 years of existence before they doubled that number during this dismal half-decade.But while the pursuit of Paul George and LeBron...
