Mon Oct 14 201311:58Brandon Jacobs expected to practice Thurs
Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) is expected to practice Thursday.
The Giants are on an exceptionally long week as they played the Thursday game in Week 6 and get the Monday night game in Week 7. Jacobs tweaked his hammy late in his fluky breakout against the Bears, but it sounds like he'll be fine. With the Giants backfield completely ravaged by injury, Jacobs is a good bet for 10-14 carries against the Vikings.

Fri Oct 11 201311:30Giants finally get effective blocking
Pro Football Focus assigned Giants OLs Will Beatty, Justin Pugh, Jim Cordle, and David Diehl all with their highest single-game grades of the season in Thursday night's loss to the Bears.
It's a frustrating turn of events for woebegone David Wilson owners, but gives the Giants some running-game hope. There weren't five offensive lines in the league playing worse over the season's first five weeks. The G-Men are now finding some offensive line continuity after shuffling bodies back and forth due to injuries early in the season. Per PFF, Brandon Jacobs averaged 2.6 yards per carry before contact against the Bears. He'll be squarely on the flex radar when the Giants take on the Vikings in Week 7.

Thu Oct 10 201323:47Jacobs turns back clock with two-TD night
Brandon Jacobs turned back the clock in New York's Week 6 loss to the Bears, rushing 22 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
The 265-pound "running back" also added a catch for eight yards. Taking advantage of the Giants' first competent run-blocking performance of the season, Jacobs was dishing out pain all night, going as far as to knock Bears MLB D.J. Williams out of the game with a chest injury. Jacobs moved slowly, but deliberately, fighting hard for extra yards. He dragged 4-5 defenders with him on his four-yard score in the first quarter. However, he also suffered some pain of his own, injuring his left thigh late in the game. He played through the injury, and now has 10 days to get healthy for Week 7. With David Wilson (neck) out indefinitely and Da'Rel Scott playing very little this evening, Jacobs will be the G-Men's feature back against the Vikings. Just don't expect a repeat performance. We'd be shocked if tonight wasn't a fluke. Nevertheless, Jacobs' role locks him in as an RB3.

Wed Oct 9 201308:01Brandon Jacobs will start for Giants Thursday
Brandon Jacobs will start Thursday's game against the Bears.
It's a rare case where a starting running back doesn't warrant a fantasy add. The 31-year-old Jacobs has rushed 22 times for 48 yards (2.18 YPC) so far this season, looking like he's lugging around a fridge on his back. The only way he won't hurt owners is if he happens to punch in a goal-line opportunity. Da'Rel Scott figures to get at least half the reps and is a slightly better fantasy play because he could catch a handful of passes.

Sun Oct 6 201318:08Jacobs plays every snap after Wilson injury
Brandon Jacobs rushed 11 times for 37 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's Week 5 loss to the Eagles.
Jacobs was rotating in behind David Wilson early on. Then Wilson hurt his neck and Jacobs was forced to play every snap, completely crippling the Giants offense. The 31-year-old "power" back's best runs come when he happens to fall forward, getting three yards. On the season, Jacobs has rushed 22 times for 48 yards (2.18 YPC) and scored one touchdown. Wilson is expected back for Week 6, meaning no one needs to think about adding Jacobs.

The Daily News says Brandon Jacobs is "going to get plenty of chances over the next few weeks."

Wed Oct 2 201311:23Coughlin: Jacobs still the GL back
Coach Tom Coughlin said the plan is still to use Brandon Jacobs in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
Of course, the 0-4 Giants haven't had many goal-line chances this season. Jacobs has a total of 11 carries for 11 yards with one touchdown so far. Even with Da'Rel Scott gone, there's no upside in rostering Jacobs.

Sun Sep 29 201317:10Brandon Jacobs gets one carry in loss
Brandon Jacobs rushed one time for five yards in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Chiefs.
Even when David Wilson needed a break after a kickoff return, Da'Rel Scott went in. With four total carries in the last two weeks, Jacobs shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters.

Sun Sep 22 201316:33Brandon Jacobs goes for 2 yards in Wk 3 loss
Brandon Jacobs rushed three times for two yards in the Giants' Week 3 loss to the Panthers.
Rotoworld draft guru Josh Norris joked that he made a sandwich on Jacobs' two-yard run off the left edge. He has no juice whatsoever. Jacobs can be a goal-line vulture, but nothing more. He's barely worth owning in fantasy leagues.

Mon Sep 16 201307:59Brandon Jacobs is the Giants' goal-line back
Coach Tom Coughlin confirmed that Brandon Jacobs was his goal-line back and Da'Rel Scott was his third-down back in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.
The Giants tried to solve their running back woes with a sluggish 31-year-old they signed off the street and a borderline NFL player. Predictably, it didn't work. Jacobs managed just four yards on seven carries and Scott had two yards on five carries. If the Giants want to spark their running game, they'll have to give David Wilson another shot at significant touches.

Wed Sep 11 201314:31Brandon Jacobs weighed 290 this summer
Brandon Jacobs weighed in at 265 after signing with the Giants on Tuesday.
That's about right for Jacobs. However, the 31-year-old says he tipped the scales at 290 this summer. Jacobs admitted he's not in football shape at the moment. It could take a couple weeks of practice for him to get there. We really don't expect Jacobs to see many touches this season. He's pure insurance.

Wed Sep 11 201308:17NYG didn't sign Jacobs to take Wilson's job
The Giants reportedly believe newly signed Brandon Jacobs can "possibly spell" David Wilson "on passing downs and maybe at the goal line."
Note that the veteran running back cattle call the Giants held Tuesday was scheduled before Wilson's nightmarish 2013 debut. Jacobs was brought back to help fill the gap left by Andre Brown (leg) -- not to take Wilson's starting job. A source tells ESPN New York that one of the reasons Jacobs was signed was because of his familiarity with their protection schemes, an area Wilson has struggled in. The two-time Super Bowl champ is also expected to help "mentor" Wilson in other areas. Per ESPN's Dan Graziano, "the odds are that [Jacobs] won't be getting too many touches right away, if ever."

Tue Sep 10 201316:37G-Men reunite with longtime RB Brandon Jacobs
Giants signed RB Brandon Jacobs.
The news will have David Wilson owners shaking in their boots, but the simple truth is, Jacobs is lucky to be back on an NFL roster. Jacobs looked done in San Francisco last season, is on the wrong side of 30 and averaged just 3.8 yards per carry in 2011. He's being added to provide a stabilizing presence more than anything else. Provided he's active for Sunday's game against the Broncos, he should be No. 3 on the depth chart behind Wilson and Da'Rel Scott. It's hard to see Jacobs coming into fantasy value.

Fri Aug 30 201323:24Giants unlikely to re-sign Brandon Jacobs
The New York Daily News reports the Giants are "very unlikely" to re-sign free agent Brandon Jacobs.
It's a logical connection because Jacobs has played for the Giants in the past, but illogical from the standpoint that he's never been a third-down back type. The Giants are searching for help in pass protection after losing Andre Brown to a left-leg fracture. Tim Hightower would make a lot more sense.

Thu Apr 25 201308:19Brandon Jacobs is 'dying' to be a Giants
Running backs coach Jerald Ingram said free agent RB Brandon Jacobs is "hoping and praying and dying" to re-sign with the Giants.
Ingram indicated that the Giants have at least thought about bringing back Jacobs, who spent the first seven years of his career with the organization. But he'd only return as a strict backup to Andre Brown, a role Jacobs whined about in San Francisco last season. The Giants don't need the distraction.

A source tells the New York Post that the Giants have not ruled out bringing back free agent RB Brandon Jacobs.

Mon Dec 31 201215:1249ers finally release veteran RB Jacobs
49ers released RB Brandon Jacobs.
Just in time for him not to be able to sign with anybody for the stretch run. Jacobs was suspended, essentially for insubordination, for the final three weeks of the season. Technically, Jacobs can sign with playoff teams, but he won't generate any interest. The 30-year-old eight-year veteran couldn't get on the field for the 49ers this season, and rushed just five times for seven yards when he did. Jacobs is near, if not at, the end.
