Wed Oct 3 201217:47Jacobs, Sopoaga, and Ginn practice for 49ers
Brandon Jacobs (knee), NT Issac Sopoaga (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice for the 49ers.
Jacobs has yet to play this season, but is on track to return Sunday. Ginn's participation would suggest he had no significant setbacks in his return to the lineup last week. Sopoaga missed the 49ers' Week 4 contest, and his status is still up in the air for Sunday's game against the Bills.

Tue Oct 2 201223:16Brandon Jacobs running at 'full bore' again
Brandon Jacobs (knee) was reportedly running 60-yard dashes "full bore" in triple-degree weather at the 49ers' facility on Tuesday.
Jacobs has pronounced himself "ready to play," and may immediately slot in as San Francisco's go-to guy on short-yardage downs. Through four weeks, the 49ers rank 22nd in the league in converting third downs into firsts, and Jacobs was successful on 17-of-24 chances on short-yardage run plays with the Giants last season. The San Francisco Chronicle calls that "a major reason why the 49ers signed him." Jacobs' return is a threat to Frank Gore's scoring potential.

Tue Oct 2 201216:09Brandon Jacobs pronounces himself healthy
Brandon Jacobs has pronounced himself fully recovered from his preseason knee injury.
"I'm ready to play. It's nothing now, it's all gone now," Jacobs said. "There's a little kinks I've got to run out but I feel good. I feel good about my explosiveness, I've got fresh legs." Jacobs was being used as a short-yardage specialist before going down with the injury in mid-August.

Sun Sep 30 201211:31Brandon Jacobs inactive for Week 4
Brandon Jacobs (knee) is inactive for Week 4 against the Jets.
Ted Ginn (knee) is active and figures to immediately re-assume return duties, but the 49ers don't have their short-yardage specialist back. Frank Gore will continue to handle goal-line work. Also inactive for San Francisco: NT Isaac Sopoaga, QB Scott Tolzien, WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, OG Josh Looney, and TE/FB Gijon Robinson. Jacobs may return in Week 5.

Fri Sep 28 201215:35Brandon Jacobs listed as questionable
Brandon Jacobs (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 4 against the Jets.
His status for the game is completely uncertain despite returning to practice this week. Jacobs did not play in the 49ers' first three games. The Niners have given no indications about whether or not he'll return in Week 4.

Wed Sep 26 201215:11Jacobs, Ginn participate in practice
Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) participated in 49ers practice Wednesday.
Both should be considered questionable for Week 4 as they work their way back from lingering injuries. Ginn should easily reassume return duties, but how Jacobs fits in is more uncertain. Kendall Hunter was doing good work as Frank Gore's change-of-pace backup until Sunday's loss.

Sun Sep 23 201211:3449ers declare Week 3 inactives
49ers declared RB Brandon Jacobs, QB Scott Tolzien, WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, G Josh Looney, NT Ian Williams, and WR Ted Ginn inactive for Week 3 against the Vikings.
Jacobs continues to nurse his way back from a knee injury. Ginn is also injured. Jenkins and James have and will continue to be healthy scratches.

Thu Sep 20 201208:21Brandon Jacobs still not practicing in full
Brandon Jacobs (knee) "appears doubtful" for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Vikings.
Jacobs wasn't wearing pads at Wednesday's practice and is still rehabbing on a side field. His absence means Frank Gore will continue to soak up the goal-line work.

Sun Sep 16 201219:06Jacobs, Ginn lead Niners' Week 2 inactives
49ers declared RB Brandon Jacobs, WR Ted Ginn Jr., WR A.J. Jenkins, RB LaMichael James, G Joe Looney, TE Garrett Celek and NT Ian Williams inactive for Week 2 against the Lions.
No surprises for the 49ers, who are without Jacobs and Ginn for the second straight week. It reflects poorly on rookies Jenkins and James that they can't crack the game-day 46 despite Jacobs and Ginn's absences. Kyle Williams will again fill in for Ginn on punt returns, while Kendall Hunter will operate as Frank Gore's change-of-pace backup.

Wed Sep 12 201217:42Jacobs and Ginn still not practicing
Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's practice.
Both players continued to rehab on the side of the field, and remain week-to-week. Kendall Hunter could see 8-10 carries for the second straight week behind Frank Gore.

Sun Sep 9 201215:03Jacobs, Ginn both out for 49ers in Green Bay
49ers declared RB Brandon Jacobs and WR/KR Ted Ginn inactive for Week 1 against the Packers.
Neither Jacobs nor Ginn was expected to suit up this afternoon, but both players have a decent chance at returning in Week 2. Frank Gore should handle goal-line work, with Kendall Hunter mixing in on early downs and passing situations. Also inactive for the 49ers are QB Scott Tolzien, RB LaMichael James, OG Joe Looney, TE Garrett Celek and NT Ian Williams. James' deactivation at the expense of fellow rookie A.J. Jenkins comes as a mild surprise.

Fri Sep 7 201215:24Brandon Jacobs misses 49ers practice
Brandon Jacobs (knee) missed 49ers practice again Friday and is not expected to be active Sunday against Green Bay.
Return specialist Ted Ginn (ankle) is also looking doubtful at best. With Jacobs out of the lineup, look for Frank Gore to handle any goal-line chances while Kendall Hunter mixes in on some early downs and passing situations. Jacobs' absence is a boost to Gore's Week 1 fantasy outlook. He'll be a strong RB2.

Wed Sep 5 201217:33Jacobs, Ginn sit out for 49ers
Brandon Jacobs (knee) and Ted Ginn (ankle) were both held out of 49ers practice Wednesday.
It bodes poorly for their Week 1 status, but neither Jacobs nor Ginn necessarily needs an entire week of practice to suit up on a Sunday. Both players should be considered doubtful until further notice, however.

Fri Aug 31 201213:20Jacobs showing 'dramatic improvement'
Brandon Jacobs (knee) remains in the picture to be available for Week 1.
Per CSN Bay Area, Jacobs has made "noticeable progress." He did some light jogging on Thursday night, just one week after being spotted on crutches due to his left knee sprain. Expect some limited practices and a questionable tag for Jacobs next week.

Mon Aug 27 201219:45Brandon Jacobs still 'limping around'
Brandon Jacobs (knee) is still "limping around."
He won't suit up for San Francisco's preseason finale, and is looking doubtful for Week 1. Coach Jim Harbaugh recently said that Jacobs had shown enough to earn a roster spot, however. In line for goal-line touches, Jacobs could eventually be worth a look in touchdown-heavy leagues.

Thu Aug 23 201215:20Harbaugh: Jacobs has earned a roster spot
Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that RB Brandon Jacobs (knee) has done enough to earn a roster spot.
A deep backfield and Jacobs' recent knee couldn't push him off the roster. It's bad news for Frank Gore's fantasy value, as Jacobs figures to take over as the primary goal-line back once his knee returns to 100 percent, likely by Week 2 or 3. Kendall Hunter remains the primary backup to Gore.

Mon Aug 20 201215:50Brandon Jacobs not ruled out for Week 1
The 49ers haven't ruled Brandon Jacobs (knee) out for Week 1.
"It's possible," coach Jim Harbaugh said. Jacobs was using crutches to get around at Monday's practice, but said he was "doing all right." With a healthy Frank Gore and an abundance of backfield depth, the 49ers don't have to rush Jacobs back. The odds are probably less than 50-50 he suits up for Week 1.

Sun Aug 19 201220:34'No major damage' to Brandon Jacobs' knee
A Sunday MRI confirmed that Brandon Jacobs suffered "no major damage" to his left knee in Saturday night's preseason game.
No timetable has been provided, but Jacobs clearly avoided a significant injury and should be back in a matter of weeks. Whether he'll play in the season opener remains unclear. Jacobs has five preseason carries for 39 yards.

Sat Aug 18 201223:40Niners say Jacobs' injury not season ending
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh stated after Saturday night's preseason game that Brandon Jacobs' left knee injury is not season ending.
Harbaugh says Jacobs' patellar tendon and ACL are both intact, and the injury is "not the you-don't-come-back-from variety." Harbaugh did acknowledge that Jacobs will miss "some time," but he's apparently escaped a severe tear or rupture of the knee. It sounds like a sprain, possibly a severe one. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that X-rays were negative, but Jacobs will have a Sunday MRI. The Niners will know how much action he'll miss after that.
