Hunted indicated after Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Orioles that he does not plan to retire, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports.

With the Tigers eliminated from the playoffs and Hunter set to become a free agent, there has been speculation that the veteran could call it quits after 18 major league seasons. However, Hunter said he's still chasing a World Series ring and, as of now, has no plans to retire. The 39-year-old said he'd welcome another stint with Detroit, but it remains to be seen whether the club will present him with an offer. Despite his advanced age, Hunter has remained very productive. In 142 games this season, Hunter slashed .286/.319/.446 with 17 home runs, 83 RBI and four stolen bases.

Hunter had a big day Monday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run.

Hunter's blast off of Casey Fein broke a 6-6 tie in the ninth inning. The 39 year old outfielder has been productive this season, hitting .282 with 16 homers and 78 RBI for the season. Monday's home run was his first since July 31.

Hunter exited Monday's game before it was completed due to a collision in the outfield, but it appears he is no worse for the wear Tuesday. Hunter will man right field and bat second Tuesday as he has done regularly the last few weeks.

Hunter appeared to have a beat on a Lorenzo Cain fly ball to the gap in right-center field in the seventh, but center fielder Don Kelly apparently thought the same, as he collided with Hunter, knocking the glove off his hand. The ball eventually bounced away from the outfielders and resulted in an inside-the-park home run for Cain, with Hunter remaining on the ground for a few moments after hitting his head on the ground. He passed on-field concussion tests and remained in the game and then passed another exam later on, but it wouldn't be surprising if Hunter was held out of Tuesday's contest as a precaution.

The 39-year-old fouled a ball off his right foot Wednesday, but it seems the decision to hold him out Thursday was largely precautionary. Hunter will return to right field and the two-hole in the order to face right-hander Jake Peavy, against whom he's 8-for-19 with a homer and seven RBI in his career.

Updating a previous report, Hunter has been held out of Thursday's lineup due to a right foot issue, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.

The veteran outfielder should return to the lineup for Friday's series opener against the White Sox.
