The defensively versatile Flaherty appears set to fill in for Manny Machado while Machado (knee) is on the DL. Flaherty continues to hover around the Mendoza line, but he has 15 home runs in 446 at-bats over the last two season.

They haven't yet closed the door on Brian Roberts returning, but seem to be content with Flaherty beginning the season as the everyday second baseman. With top prospect Jonathan Schoop in the fold as well, the O's are unlikely to pursue an upgrade at the position this offseason.
