Montero typically gets a day off in favor of David Ross when Jon Lester is scheduled to take the mound, and that will once again be the case for the evening contest. Look for him to be available as a pinch-hitter, if needed.
Thu Jun 11 201504:06Montero 3-5 with three-run homer and two runs scored out of clea...
Montero went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs scored out of the cleanup spot in Wednesday's rout of Detroit.
Montero doesn't exactly scream "cleanup hitter," and you wouldn't think that he'd be the choice for that spot in this Cubs lineup, but he's seen a dozen games in the four-hole this year. The veteran backstop had been ice-cold recently -- over his last 17 games (13 starts), he'd gone just 5-for-52 (.096), with a pair of solo homers the only positive. He's a playable option at catcher, particularly in leagues that utilize OBP, but the two-time All-Star is probably not headed for the Midsummer Classic again this year.

Montero is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
Montero usually sits in favor of David Ross when Jon Lester starts for the Cubs, but with Chicago playing in Detroit on Tuesday and getting to use a DH, Montero will be in the lineup even though Lester is on the mound. Montero will hit fifth against Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez.
Thu Jun 4 201515:18Montero out of lineup Thursday against Nationals
Montero is out of the lineup Thursday against the Nationals.
Montero's absence from the lineup Wednesday wasn't a surprise as David Ross serves as Jon Lester's personal catcher, but his second straight day off Thursday is a bit surprising. It's unclear why Montero will sit again, but he'll likely rejoin the lineup again Friday.
Wed Jun 3 201515:46Montero not in lineup for Wednesday's game against Marlins
Montero is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
With Jon Lester on the mound for the Cubs on Wednesday, Montero will be held out in favor of Lester's personal catcher, David Ross. A day off for Montero probably is not the worst thing with him tallying just four hits since May 19.
Tue Jun 2 201516:11Montero not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Marlins
Montero is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.
David Ross will take over behind the plate with lefty Brad Hand due up for Miami, pushing Montero to the bench after five consecutive starts. Montero will likely sit Wednesday as well, as Ross serves as the personal catcher for ace Jon Lester.

This is the second time in three games that Montero will rest after starting behind the plate in seven of the previous eight games. David Ross will once again replace Montero in the lineup at bat seventh.

Fri May 22 201518:30Montero out of lineup Friday against Diamondbacks
Montero is out of the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
This comes as no surprise, as David Ross has caught Jon Lester exclusively and that figures to continue moving forward. However, with Welington Castillo traded to Seattle, Montero may be in line to see a heavier workload.
Sun May 17 201511:40Montero back in lineup Sunday against Pirates
Montero is back in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.
Montero had been held out of the starting lineup for three straight games for the first time all season, but will make his return Sunday afternoon. There's no reason to look too far into this, however, as it's not uncommon for Welington Castillo to start against lefties, and David Ross starts every game that Jon Lester is on the hill.
Sat May 16 201513:41Montero out of lineup Saturday against Pirates
Montero is out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates.
David Ross serves as Jon Lester's personal catcher and Welington Castillo steals starts against left-handed pitching, but Montero continues to occupy the primary role behind the plate for Chicago. Montero has gone 12-for-31 (.387 average) with two doubles, a homer, 10 walks and six strikeouts in the first two weeks of May.

Montero is out of the lineup Thursday against the Mets.
This is just a standard day off in the day game following Wednesday's night game. Wed May 6 201515:28Montero out of lineup Wednesday
Montero is out of the lineup Wednesday.
Montero is the catcher to own on the Cubs, but unfortunately Chicago rosters three catchers, so Montero's playing time is not as consistent as some other starting backstops. David Ross will get the start behind the dish Wednesday.
Tue May 5 201516:29Montero out of lineup Tuesday against Cardinals
Montero is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.
Welington Castillo will get the nod behind the plate with lefty Tyler Lyons on the bump for St. Louis. Montero has hit safely in six straight games, with four multi-hit efforts over that span, after his Cubs career got off to a very slow start.
Fri May 1 201510:25Montero out of lineup for Friday's game against Brewers
Montero is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports.
David Ross has been the personal catcher for Jon Lester, who is taking the mound Friday afternoon. Montero owns a .261/.333/.478 slash line for the season, but Welington Castillo typically starts when the Cubs face a southpaw, while Ross gets the nod when Lester pitches. Montero is thus on pace for just 373 at-bats, even though he's yet to suffer an injury.
