Montero is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.

Montero tallied three hits (including a home run) over his last two games, but he will be held out Tuesday with left-hander Jeff Locke on the mound for the Pirates. Welington Castillo will get the start behind the plate in Montero's place.

Montero is back in the lineup Sunday against the Reds, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Montero had sat both Thursday and Friday, but will return to action to catch Sunday's starter, Jake Arrieta. The 31-year-old backstop owns a .668 OPS through 42 plate appearances in 2015.

Montero is out of the lineup Friday, the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales reports.

After a slow start Montero has now been out of the lineup on consecutive days, with Welington Castillo starting Thursday and Davis Ross catching Friday. There's plenty of reasons to expect Montero to play better over the rest of the season, but playing time is a slight issue at the moment.

Montero is out of the lineup Thursday, the Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzales reports.

He will get a day off behind the plate and Welington Castillo will take his place in the Cubs' lineup. Montero is hitting just .182 in 33 at-bats in the early going, but he does have a couple home runs and a 7:6 K:BB ratio.

Montero is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Pirates.

Montero will sit after starting four of the team's last six games, giving way to Welington Castillo behind the plate. While Montero has two hits, including a homer, in five at-bats against lefties so far this season, the Cubs figure to shield him from southpaws for the most part.

Montero will not be in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.

Montero will be rested a day after swatting his first two homers of the season in the Cubs' 11-inning victory over the Padres. David Ross will step in for Montero, who is batting just .174 with six RBI for the season even after Saturday's strong performance.

Montero went 2-for-4 Saturday with his first two home runs of the season and three RBI.

He doubled both his hit and RBI totals on the season, which tells you how slowly Montero's come out of the gate. Hopefully for his fantasy owners, Saturday's outburst signals the start of a hot streak.

Montero, who was out of the lineup Monday, continued his slow start to the season Tuesday, failing to get a hit in three at bats.

Montero has sat twice already this season, and is a combined 1-for-15 from the plate. He was acquired in the offseason to be the full-time starting catcher, but he's only getting on base 20 percent of the time. Expect Montero and Wellington Castillo to share time at catcher going forward, especially if Montero continues to struggle.

Montero is not in the lineup Monday against the Reds.

Montero was acquired over the offseason with the intention of serving as the club's primary catching option, but Monday now marks already the third time he'll sit in the team's first six games. The 31-year-old is just 1-for-12 with four strikeouts thus far, so it's possible he'll continue to lose playing time if the production doesn't improve. David Ross will start behind the plate Monday, batting seventh.

Montero is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, according to ESPN Chicago.

Montero will be held out in favor of Welington Castillo with left-hander Tyler Matzek on the mound for the Rockies. Montero is the Cubs' primary catcher, but all of he, Castillo, and David Ross have started a game this season, so his playing time could be irregular.

Montero is not in the lineup Sunday night against the Cardinals.

Montero was expected to serve as the Cubs' primary catcher this season, but manager Joe Maddon will instead roll with David Ross on Opening Night. It's a bit surprising to not see the extra left-handed bat Montero provides in the lineup against opposing starter Adam Wainwright, but look for the veteran to return to the starting lineup in short order.

Montero went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and an error in a win over the White Sox on Friday. He has one RBI and is slashing just .152/.176/.303 this spring.

A veteran with a secure job does not need to have great March stats, but Montero's 12:1 K:BB ratio in 33 at-bats is a bit alarming. He should be the regular catcher all year, but with David Ross catching Jon Lester every fifth day and Welington Castillo still around, he may not get the at-bats of most of the top catchers.

Jon Lester has been confirmed as the starter on Opening Night, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports, meaning Montero might not be the starter in his first game in a Cubs uniform.

The Cubs signed David Ross in the offseason, and he's widely accepted as Lester's personal catcher. Montero, who was traded to Chicago in December, it still atop the depth chart even if he doesn't start the opener.

The Diamondbacks agreed to trade Montero to the Cubs on Tuesday, Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports.

The return package to Arizona is still uncertain but the Diamondbacks are expected to receive only lower-level prospects, with the Cubs assuming the $40 million remaining on Montero's contract. Montero posted a disappointing .699 OPS last season, but slashed .256/.348/.386 against right-handers and his overall line should improve while likely platooning behind the plate with Welington Castillo.

The Diamondbacks have been receiving interest in Montero from other clubs this offseason, the Arizona Republic reports.

It's also believed that the Diamondbacks will move a middle infielder at some point, but Montero will be available relatively cheaply compared to free agent Russell Martin (Montero is owed $40 million through 2017 while Martin is expected to receive a deal worth significantly more on the open market), and the market for catching this winter is quite thin. Montero hit .243/.329/.370 with 13 homers and 72 RBI over 136 games for Arizona in 2014.

Montero will sit out Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Tuffy Gosewisch will get the start in the regular season finale over Montero, who will finish an okay year (.243/.329/.370) for a lost Diamondbacks team.

Montero is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

Montero will take Wednesday's game off following a 0-for-7 stretch at the plate over the last two games. He now sits at a .244/.330/.373 batting line for the season.

Montero is out of Sunday's lineup against the Rockies.

After three-hit night at Coors Field, Montero will sit out and Tuffy Gosewisch will get the start. Before last night, Montero was two for his last 31 and might be winding down with the Diamondbacks' season fully lost.

Montero is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Giants.

Montero will sit the finale of the series against the Giants after going just 1-for-8 over the first two games and 1-for-21 over his past six starts. Tuffy Gosewisch gets the start behind the plate Wednesday and will bat seventh for the Diamondbacks.

Montero is out of the lineup Saturday against the Padres.

Manager Kirk Gibson said last month that he would rest Montero more frequently down the stretch, and he's been true to his word. Saturday's absence will mark Montero's second in three days and third in the team's last seven games.
