Manager Kirk Gibson acknowledged that Montero would receive more frequent rest over the final few weeks of the season, Jack Magruder of FoxSportsArizona.com reports.
With the Diamondbacks' playoff hopes already dashed for 2014, the team will take the next month and a half to assess some lesser-used options on the roster. Montero has already appeared in 102 games this season and has bounced back moderately well from last season's disastrous .230/.318/.344 line, alleviating some concerns that he might have been headed for a steep decline. Tuffy Gosewisch will receive more at-bats down the stretch while Montero rests up, likely two or three times a week.
