Fri Aug 31 201201:18Chris Young goes 2-for-4, homers
Chris Young went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Thursday in the win over the Dodgers.
Young's homer off Clayton Kershaw gave the Diamondbacks the only runs they'd need tonight. A big disappointment for fantasy purposes, Young has just 14 homers and 38 RBI to go along with his .227 average this season. One wonders if the Diamondbacks will consider trading him this winter.

Sun Aug 26 201219:25Chris Young has two-hit afternoon
Chris Young went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
The two-hit afternoon was Young's second in three days, but the extra-base hit was his first in six games. Young is having his best month since April, but still hitting just .250 with two home runs and six RBI through 20 August contests. He doesn't appear poised to be of much mixed-league use during the fantasy playoffs.

Sat Aug 18 201222:16Chris Young drives in three as D'Backs roll

Young has begun to collect extra-base hits with regularly, and is capable of maintaining the hot streak through the end of the summer. His OPS was .728 on August 14. It's now .768. Get him active again in fantasy leagues.

Wed Aug 8 201221:46Chris Young, Justin Upton ejected
Chris Young was ejected from Wednesday's game for arguing balls and strikes.
Young was punched out by Larry Vanover on a questionable strike three, and he didn't seem to care too much for the first two called strikes, either. Justin Upton was also ejected from the game by second base umpire Brian O'Nora as Young was being ushered back to the dugout. It's Young's first career ejection and Upton's second.

Wed Jul 25 201200:38Young fills stat sheet in win over Colorado
Chris Young went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, a home run, a stolen base and two RBI in Tuesday's victory over the Rockies.
Young seems destined to never fulfill the fantasy expectations of most, but it's a fool's errand to ignore him. In just 202 at-bats this year, he's posted a .785 OPS, almost 30 points higher than his career numbers. Young's power and speed are still apparent, as he's socked 11 homers and stolen six bases. Of course, his batting average is still a major hindrance -- he's batting .223, down 15 points on his career mark. Because he's gradually becoming a more efficient hitter, expect that average to come up a bit over the next two-plus months.

Sun Jul 1 201212:16Chris Young not in Sunday's lineup
Chris Young is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.
He's now been benched in four of the last seven games in favor of Gerardo Parra. Young homered on Wednesday and Thursday but then went 0-for-8 with five strikeouts the next two days to earn a spot on the pine again. It appears that the two outfielders will be splitting time until Young finds his stroke.

Fri Jun 29 201201:31Chris Young delivers game winning HR
Chris Young's homer in the ninth inning on Thursday broke a 2-2 tie and led to the Diamondbacks picking up a 3-2 victory.
Young has struggled quite a bit since his return from the DL, hitting just .147 (15-for-102) with no homers and three RBI over 28 games before hitting a pinch-hit home run on Wednesday and following it up with Thursday's blast. Perhaps he's finally regaining his timing after the long layoff. Regardless, as long as he's hitting, he should be owned in most formats.

Wed Jun 27 201208:48Young misses second straight game
The slumping Chris Young was held out of the Diamondbacks' starting lineup for the second straight game Tuesday.
"He's been grinding pretty hard, he's been searching for it," said Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson. "I'm just kind of taking the initiative to slow him down a little bit." Young got off to a monster start this season, but he's hitting just .147/.237/.206 with zero homers, three RBI and a .443 OPS in 114 plate appearances since returning from a shoulder injury. It sounds like he may have come back too soon.

Tue Jun 19 201218:18Chris Young getting night off
Chris Young is getting the night off Tuesday.
Young has just two hits in his last 27 at-bats and owns an underwhelming .230/.331/.413 slash line on the year. He admitted last month that he returned too quickly from a shoulder injury, and it's possible that the ailment is still having some effect. Gerardo Parra drew the start in center field on Tuesday night against the Mariners.

Wed May 23 201221:08Gibson: Chris Young came off DL too soon
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson admits that Chris Young "probably" came off the disabled list too soon.
Young, who got a night off Wednesday, has just three hits in 20 at-bats since being activated last week. "He probably came back (from the disabled list) a tad too early," Gibson said. "I DH'ed him, played him (in center field), DH'ed him and then played him two straight days. We have an off day tomorrow. I thought this was the right thing to do. You go from just working out and not playing to virtually playing every day, it's hard."

Young began a rehab assignment with High-A Visalia Monday and will stay there through Wednesday before heading to Triple-A Reno. Gibson isn't putting a timetable on how long Young will remain at Reno, but it sounds like we probably won't see him with the D'Backs until next week. "It's a different game ... here," Gibson said. "We'd like him to play most of the time or every day. He's just not 100 percent yet."
