Tue May 1 201219:29Chris Young hits off tee
Chris Young (shoulder) took 35 swings off a tee Monday and is expected to do so again Tuesday.
It's a good first step for the outfielder, but obviously he still has a long ways to go. Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said last week that he didn't expect Young to return when eligible on May 3, and clearly it will be a while after that. Gerardo Parra will continue to fill in.

Mon Apr 23 201219:34Chris Young not expected back in 15 days
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Monday that he does not expect Chris Young (shoulder) to return after a minimum stint on the disabled list.
Gibson wouldn't offer a timetable for the outfielder. Young has been diagnosed with a slight ligament tear in his right shoulder, as well as a deep bruise. It sounds like Gerardo Parra will be seeing a lot of center field for multiple weeks.

Wed Apr 18 201219:07Chris Young has ligament tear in shoulder
Chris Young has been diagnosed with a slight ligament tear in his right shoulder, as well as a deep bruise.
We never like to hear the word "tear" involved, but the D'Backs are still hopeful that Young will be ready for activation from the disabled list once his 15 days are up. It's certainly not a guarantee, though. While he's out, Gerardo Parra figures to see a big bump in playing time, though A.J. Pollock should also see some time, too, especially if Justin Upton's thumb injury lingers.

Chris Young has been diagnosed with a right shoulder contusion.
Young left Tuesday's game in the fourth inning after banging his shoulder against the outfield wall following a fantastic catch. He'll undergo an MRI on Wednesday morning to be sure that he suffered no structural damage. Gerardo Parra could fill in as the Snakes' center fielder if Young is forced to miss a significant chunk of time.

Chris Young went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer Monday against the Pirates.
Young's outstanding start continues, as he turned in his third straight multihit game and hit his fifth homer in 10 games. He's not going to keep hitting for average like this, but maybe this is the year he goes 30-30.

Chris Young stayed hot in Sunday's win over the Rockies, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base.

He's now batting an eye-popping .364/.475/.818 through Arizona's first nine games, and has racked up seven extra-base hits, 11 RBI and two steals in the process. Young won't keep his average above .300, but might finally be ready to stick at .250.

Fri Apr 6 201222:16Chris Young powers Diamondbacks to win
Chris Young's two-run homer off Tim Lincecum in the first inning lead the way as the Diamondbacks defeated the Giants 5-4 on Friday.
Manager Kirk Gibson decided to mix things up by putting Young in the second slot in the lineup on Friday and it paid dividends early with the first-inning blast. Young has always possessed a tantalizing power/speed combination, but has also struggled to make consistent contact. His fantasy value will increase if he manages to remain hitting second, as he'll see additional at bats and an increase in runs scored.

Fri Apr 6 201219:25Young to bat second for Diamondbacks
Chris Young is batting second against the Giants on Friday night.
Young only hit second once last season, and hadn't hit there at all this spring. Aaron Hill, who had been projected by many to hit second, is hitting eighth. Standard operating procedure for manager Kirk Gibson who regularly likes to mix things up in his order.

Tue Mar 27 201219:09Chris Young hitting .400
Chris Young singled, scored a run and drew a walk in four plate appearances against the Rockies Tuesday.
His spring average actually dropped on the day, as he's now batting an even .400 over 45 at-bats, having hit three homers and posted a 1.229 OPS. The talented outfielder struggled with wrist and thumb injuries in the second half last season, which was the main reason for his .193 average after the break, but he appears to be healthy now.

Mon Feb 20 201223:11Young over wrist and thumb injuries from 2011
Chris Young said Monday that he is over wrist and thumb injuries which impacted his production during the second half last season.
Young batted .262 with 16 homers and an .817 OPS before the All-Star break last season, but hit just .193 with four homers and a .641 OPS during the second half. "The time off definitely helped my body heal and kind of be ready for this year," said Young. "By all means, I'm 100 percent right now." The 28-year-old is unlikely to hit for a high batting average, but his power-speed combo should make him one of the top 30 outfielders off the board in mixed leagues.

Chris Young went 2-for-3 with a walk in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
Young now has a .752 OPS with two games left to go. Hardly a poor number, but a disappointment after he turned in a .793 OPS in 2010. It's quite possible 2010 will end up as Young's career year.

Chris Young reached the 20-20 mark Sunday.
As in, 20 stolen bases and 20 homers in one season. The 28-year-old center fielder is batting just .230 with a .735 OPS, but he's remained a valuable fantasy commodity.

Thu Sep 8 201108:51Chris Young bothered by thumb injury?
Diamondbacks hitting coach Don Baylor believes a left thumb injury has affected Chris Young's performance at the plate.
Young said in early July that he intended to play through a strained ligament in his thumb, but he is batting just .147/.274/.237 with three homers and a .511 OPS since the All-Star break. "I think he's got himself into a situation where when he swings and misses, it hurts more," said Baylor. "But he stays out there. With your hands, every time you make contact, there's a jarring sensation in there that only hitters know. He's really quick with his hips and with his head, so we're going to try to fix that." Young hasn't shown any signs of turning things around, so feel free to drop him in mixed leagues.

Tue Aug 23 201109:03Chris Young stuck in 1-for-30 rut
Chris Young went 0-for-3 on Monday night and is now stuck in a 1-for-30 offensive slump.
Young has the talent to rebound down the stretch, but he can be benched in fantasy leagues until things begin going a little better. The productive 27-year-old outfielder has 17 home runs, 57 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 126 games this season.
