Tue Dec 3 201317:11Miami 'extreme favorites' for Saltalamacchia
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the Marlins are "extreme favorites" for Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post heard from a Rockies source on Tuesday afternoon that a deal between Salty and the Marlins had already been struck, but it's not quite official yet. Passan says the Fish have offered the 28-year-old catcher a three-year contract worth $7-8 million per season. That should do the trick.

Tue Dec 3 201315:58Report: Saltalamacchia will sign with Marlins
Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post hears that Jarrod Saltalamacchia is headed to the Marlins.
Saltalamacchia was reportedly deciding between the Marlins and Twins, but he apparently found a more appealing offer in Miami. We're still waiting on confirmation elsewhere, but Phil Mackey of 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis previously reported that the Marlins had offered Salty a two-year deal with a club option for a third year.

Tue Dec 3 201314:59Rangers not pursuing Saltalamacchia
Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Rangers will not pursue Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Some have speculated on a possible reunion since A.J. Pierzynski has agreed to a deal with the Red Sox, but the Rangers are focused on other options, including Kurt Suzuki. The market for Saltalamacchia is expected to come down to the Twins and Marlins.

Phil Mackey of 1500 ESPN reports that the Marlins have offered Jarrod Saltalamacchia a two-year deal with a club option for a third yer.

Tue Dec 3 201312:16Report: Salty wants final offers in next day
Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN hears that the industry sense is that the Twins and Marlins need to make their final offers to Jarrod Saltalamacchia within the next day.
Wolfson speculates that three years and $24 million could get a deal done, with the belief that the Twins would have to top the Marlins' offer in order to lure him to Minnesota. Either way, we should have some resolution soon.

Tue Dec 3 201310:56'Good chance' Saltalamacchia signs soon
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick hears that the market for Jarrod Saltalamacchia is "moving quickly" and that there's "a good chance" he could sign before next week's Winter Meetings.
This confirms a report from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, who wrote that Saltalamacchia could make a decision in the early part of this week. The Red Sox have agreed to a one-year deal with A.J. Pierzynski, which leaves the Twins and Marlins as the most likely landing spots. The Rangers are also a possibility, though it's unclear whether they have interest in a reunion.

Mon Dec 2 201323:23Saltalamacchia 'unlikely' to return to Sox
Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe was told by two sources that it's "unlikely" Jarrod Saltalamacchia will return to the Red Sox.
The Red Sox have offered Salty a two-year deal, but it apparently isn't going to cut it. The Twins and Marlins are also after the catcher, with the Marlins known to have made an offer. Saltalamacchia should have no trouble getting a three-year deal after batting .273/.338/.466 with 14 homers this past season.

Mon Dec 2 201322:33Marlins make offer to Jarrod Saltalamacchia
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Marlins recently made an offer to Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Rosenthal isn't sure what the terms were, but it's clear that the Marlins are serious in their attempt to upgrade at the catcher position. Saltalamacchia has a two-year offer on the table from the Red Sox but is likely seeking for a third guaranteed year. The 28-year-old backstop is looking to cash in after batting .273/.338/.466 with 14 homers in 2013.

Wed Nov 27 201315:09Salty's agent says there's no health concerns
Jarrod Saltalamacchia's agent, Jim Munsey, has denied there are any concerns about his client's health.
ESPN's Buster Olney suggested on WEEI on Wednesday that health questions were having an impact on Saltalamacchia's market, but Munsey strongly denied any such talk. "Salty has just finished his third straight year without being on the DL, which makes him different from both [Brian] McCann and [Carlos] Ruiz," Munsey said in an email. "There are no medical issues hindering his market." While Olney found it curious that a team like the Cubs weren't involved for Saltalamacchia, Munsey said that the club already has a regular catcher (Welington Castillo) in place and is allocating their resources elsewhere. Saltalamacchia still appears poised to land a nice contract in free agency, regardless of whether he returns to the Red Sox.

Tue Nov 26 201318:17Twins, Rockies and Jays chasing Salty
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman writes that the Twins, Rockies and Blue Jays "have been identified as among the teams that could be threats to steal" free agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the Red Sox.
Salty is the top free agent catcher left on the board, followed by A.J. Pierzynski and Dioner Navarro. Minnesota's interest stems from Joe Mauer's move to first base, while the Rockies are contemplating shifting Wilin Rosario to the outfield. Toronto, meanwhile, can't afford another offensive sinkhole season from J.P. Arencibia (.227 on-base percentage in 2013). "Minnesota could be the biggest threat to the Red Sox, as the Twins have been linked a lot to Salty," writes Heyman.

Mon Nov 25 201321:21Sox GM Cherington still talking with Salty
Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said his club continues to have an open dialogue with free agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
With Christian Vazquez and Blake Swihart waiting in the wings, Cherington believes he can be "choosy" in the free agent catching market. With free agents Brian McCann and Carlos Ruiz already off the board, Cherington's options are beginning to wane. "We kind of thought that might be a position that moved quicker just because there seemed to be sort of a set of teams and a set of somewhat comparable, somewhat equal players and the musical chairs would start. I guess that leaves us still talking," said Cherington. "We have interest in a small handful of free agents. We've also talked to teams about trades. And we also think we're in a pretty strong position long-term with the young catching we have in the organization."

Sun Nov 24 201309:59Saltalamacchia 'very much' on Twins' radar
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Jarrod Saltalamacchia is "still very much on the Twins' radar."
The Twins are looking for catcher help following the decision to move Joe Mauer to first base. The Red Sox wouldn't mind bringing Salty back and have reportedly offered him a two-year deal, but Cafardo thinks it will probably take three years and $30 million to get something done. Whether the Twins are willing to go there remains to be seen.

Wed Nov 13 201319:47Saltalamacchia has two-year offer from Sox
The Red Sox have offered a two-year contract to Jarrod Saltalamacchia but the sides still aren't close, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
Heyman notes that the Red Sox are also in on free agents Brian McCann, Carlos Ruiz and A.J. Pierzynski, so they're not putting all their eggs in the Salty basket. The two-year offer is believed to be less than $10 million per year, according to Heyman, while Salty is said to be looking for at least a three-year deal. The catcher hit .273/.338/.466 this year and will likely get what he wants from a team if the Red Sox won't go there.

Wed Nov 6 201315:41Farrell: Salty 'absolutely' has Boston future
Red Sox manager John Farrell said on Wednesday that free agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia "absolutely" has "a future" with Boston.
Saltalamacchia didn't receive a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from Boston, but that hasn't necessarily closed the book on his return. "We're engaging with him and I know [Red Sox GM Ben Cherington] has talked to his agent frequently here, not just as free agent season has opened up but throughout the course of the remainder of the year and through the postseason," said Farrell. "In this case, if people are understanding of the qualifying offer, it doesn't put a drag on his market. In some ways, it may benefit Salty a little bit more than the other three guys where you've got to give up a first-round draft choice." Salty, considered the No. 2 free agent catcher behind Brian McCann, slashed .273/.338/.466 in 2013.

Wed Nov 6 201309:27Salty won't wait for McCann to set market
Jarrod Saltalamacchia won't delay signing a contract until fellow free agent catcher Brian McCann "establish[es] a market," according to the New York Daily News.
Saltalamacchia, who is "willing to go to whoever offers the most security," according to his agent, is the clear No. 2 catcher on the board. As such, he has two options: 1.) Wait until McCann has signed and hope the runner-ups become desperate and engage in another bidding war, or, 2.) Be proactive in the process and accept the first "strong offer" he receives. It appears as though he'll walk down the second path. Whichever team ends up with Saltalamacchia shouldn't necessarily view the transaction as a consolation prize. Salty slashed .273/.338/.466 in 2013, while McCann hit .256/.336/.451.

Mon Nov 4 201316:28Salty doesn' receive qualifying offer
Jarrod Saltalamacchia didn't receive a qualifying offer from Boston.
Saltalamacchia proved to be a nice bargain at $4.5 million this past season, slashing .273/.338/.466 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI in 121 games. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington indicated that he wants to bring Saltalamacchia back. He's going to have intense competition.

Mon Nov 4 201310:44Salty not expected to get a qualifying offer
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not expected to get a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from Boston.
Because the worry is that he would accept it and then be overpaid. Salty hit .273/.338/.466 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI in 121 games this season and should do pretty well for himself on the open market this winter.
