Right shoulder inflammation pushed Alvarez to the DL on Aug. 1, but he was able to resume throwing less than a week later and will end up missing just over the minimum 15 days required by his stint. A preliminary exam of Alvarez's shoulder suggests that he will only miss the minimum 15 days and will begin throwing again in six days. However, he dealt with a similar injury that forced him to miss the first half of 2013.
Alvarez said that he first experienced discomfort during a start against the Braves on July 24. He nonetheless pitched well in that start and one more on July 29 before going on the DL. "I'm doing the treatments and I feel better," Alvarez said. "I think I'm going to wait two weeks or something like that and try to come back in the series against Arizona. That's the most probable time. After that, I don't know. I'll just do my treatment, support the team and continue my routine."

Alvarez was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday with right shoulder inflammation, Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Alvarez just shut out the Nationals over seven innings Tuesday to improve to 8-5 on the season, but it seems his shoulder flared up following the outing. With the stint backdated to Wednesday, Alvarez will be eligible to return Aug. 14, though it's too early to tell whether he'll be ready by that time. Jacob Turner seems like the most likely candidate to take Alvarez's next turn, with reliever Dan Jennings recalled in the corresponding move.

The right-hander allowed just three hits and walked four on the evening. The All-Star moved to 8-5 with a 2.48 ERA through 22 starts this season, and he'll square off with the Reds on Sunday.

In the process, he lowers his ERA a couple points to 2.62 and is now carrying a 1.23 WHIP and a 79/23 K/BB ratio. He'll face the Nationals at home in his next start.

Fri Jun 20 201423:06Henderson Alvarez continues dominance at home
Henderson Alvarez held the Mets scoreless over 6 1/3 innings on Friday as part of a 3-2 victory.
Alvarez got the victory, but he owes an assist to Marcell Ozuna, who threw out the potential tying run at the plate in both the eight and ninth innings. Alvarez gave up seven hits, but six of them were singles. He also struck out five batters without issuing a walk. The 24-year-old has now thrown 18 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings against the Mets and owns a 1.44 ERA at home this season. The strikeouts aren't always going to be there, but Alvarez is an undervalued asset in fantasy leagues.
