Henderson Alvarez has been cleared to start on Tuesday against the Rays after throwing a 20-pitch bullpen pain-free.

Alvarez was removed from Wednesday's game against the Nationals with stiffness in his right elbow. Saturday's bullpen gave the Marlins all the assurance they needed to let Alvarez take his next regularly-scheduled turn in the rotation. Alvarez owns a 2.97 ERA with a 40/16 K/BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings with a league-leading two shutouts through 11 starts this season.

It was just a bad outing in what's otherwise been a productive year thus far for the right-hander, who owns a 3.33 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with two shutouts through eight starts. He'll look to regain that form Friday at the Giants.

Alvarez carved his way easily through the Mets' batting order, scattering four singles and two doubles while fanning seven. He did not issue a walk and wound up throwing 79 of his 111 pitches for strikes. The 24-year-old now boasts a 2.62 ERA in 44 2/3 innings this season and has the goods to remain a highly-productive fantasy starter all summer. He has attractive matchup next time out in San Diego.

Alvarez will face the division rival Mets at home in his next start.
