Sat May 31 201414:03Alvarez cleared to start Tuesday vs. the Rays
Henderson Alvarez has been cleared to start on Tuesday against the Rays after throwing a 20-pitch bullpen pain-free.
Alvarez was removed from Wednesday's game against the Nationals with stiffness in his right elbow. Saturday's bullpen gave the Marlins all the assurance they needed to let Alvarez take his next regularly-scheduled turn in the rotation. Alvarez owns a 2.97 ERA with a 40/16 K/BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings with a league-leading two shutouts through 11 starts this season.

Wed May 28 201423:08Alvarez shuts Nats out in 5 IP, exits early
Henderson Alvarez got the no-decision, tossing five shutout innings as the Marlins defeated the Nationals 8-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday.
Alvarez was effective, allowing only five hits without a walk while striking out two. However, he exited after five innings due to stiffness in his right elbow, a precautionary move on the part of the Marlins. Alvarez has been great for the Marlins out of the rotation, now sporting a 2.97 ERA. If he is healthy enough to take his next turn in the rotation, he will face the Rays at home.

Wed May 28 201421:14Alvarez exits Wednesday with elbow stiffness
Henderson Alvarez left Wednesday's game with right elbow stiffness.
There was definitely something at play, as Alvarez had held the Nationals to five hits and no runs through five innings of work before being removed. The Marlins are saying the move was precautionary, so he may not have to miss a start. More should be known in the coming days.

Thu May 22 201416:06Henderson Alvarez goes seven scoreless
Henderson Alvarez was involved in the decision after blanking the Phillies for seven innings on Thursday.
Alvarez deserved better after leaving with a 3-0 lead. A.J. Ramos retired one of two batters to start the eighth, but since that brought up the Chase Utley-Ryan Howard duo, Mike Redmond predictably went to Mike Dunn. Dunn gave up a double to Utley and a sac fly to Howard. Unfortunately, Ramos was unavailable to come back in at that point and Redmond wasn't about to go to Steve Cishek in the eighth. Marlon Byrd went on to hit a game-tying homer off Dunn, taking Alvarez out of the mix for the win.

Sun May 11 201422:20Alvarez allows five runs over four vs. Padres
Henderson Alvarez allowed five runs on seven hits over four innings in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
Will Venable hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning, and it didn't really get much better from there. Alvarez finished with three walks and two strikeouts in his four innings. It was just a bad outing in what's otherwise been a productive year thus far for the right-hander, who owns a 3.33 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with two shutouts through eight starts. He'll look to regain that form Friday at the Giants.

Henderson Alvarez fired his second shutout of the season as the Marlins beat the Mets 3-0 on Tuesday.
Alvarez carved his way easily through the Mets' batting order, scattering four singles and two doubles while fanning seven. He did not issue a walk and wound up throwing 79 of his 111 pitches for strikes. The 24-year-old now boasts a 2.62 ERA in 44 2/3 innings this season and has the goods to remain a highly-productive fantasy starter all summer. He has attractive matchup next time out in San Diego.

Thu May 1 201422:43Alvarez takes no-decision in win vs. Braves
Henderson Alvarez got the no-decision in Thursday's start, allowing four runs in six innings as the Marlins defeated the Braves on Thursday.
Alvarez wasn't as sharp as he had been, allowing eight hits -- including two home runs to B.J. Upton and Evan Gattis -- and walking two while striking out four. He was on a run of three consecutive quality starts, including a complete game shutout against the Mariners, but it came to an unceremonious end on Thursday. Alvarez will face the division rival Mets at home in his next start.

Sat Apr 19 201421:45Henderson Alvarez delivers shutout vs. SEA
Henderson Alvarez tossed a shutout Saturday in the Marlins' 7-0 stomping of the Mariners.
It was the third career shutout for Alvarez, who looked sharp all night and even carried a perfect game into the sixth inning. He surrendered just two hits in all while fanning four batters and issuing zero walks. The 24-year-old right-hander will try to stay hot in his next start on the road against the Mets. Consistency has been an issue for him.

Sun Apr 13 201417:37Henderson Alvarez knocked around Sunday
Henderson Alvarez managed to hold the Phillies to three runs despite giving up 12 hits and three walks over six innings in a no-decision Sunday.
One of the walks was intentionally, but the Phillies obviously weren't having trouble making contact against the right-hander. Alvarez has yet to give up more than three runs in any of his first three starts but has yielded a whopping 25 hits over 14 2/3 frames. He'll take on the Mariners next weekend.

Tue Apr 8 201422:32Alvarez takes the loss in start vs. Nationals
Henderson Alvarez allowed three runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings and took home the loss in Tuesday's start against the Nationals.
Alvarez wasn't hit particularly hard as five of the six hits he allowed were singles. He also allowed two walks and struck out four. Alvarez doesn't miss many bats. As a result, he is very reliant on luck and his defense being reliable. He's a safer bet in NL-only leagues.

Wed Apr 2 201422:56Alvarez hit hard against the Rockies
Henderson Alvarez took the loss in Wednesday's start against the Rockies, allowing six runs (three earned) in three innings.
Though half of Alvarez's runs were unearned, it was the right-hander's own throwing error on a play at second base that helped set up the Rockies' three-run outburst in the first inning. Overall, he allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out one. Given the team he plays for, Alvarez is a risk in standard fantasy leagues; NL-only leagues are a safer bet.

Mon Mar 17 201417:25Henderson Alvarez strikes out five Mets
Facing mostly backups, Henderson Alvarez held the Mets to one run in four innings and struck out five in the Marlins' 10-7 win Monday.
Alvarez, who pitched a no-hitter in his final start of last season, has a 1.69 ERA and an 8/2 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings this spring. The strikeouts and wins probably won't be there to make him a big-time mixed-league starter this year, but he should have a solid ERA and WHIP.

Sat Mar 1 201410:51Henderson Alvarez to throw bullpen Monday
Henderson Alvarez (shin infection) has resumed playing catch and is expected to throw a bullpen session on Monday.
If all goes well with that, he'd make his Grapefruit League debut against the Cardinals on Friday. The 23-year-old enters spring training with a spot in the Marlins rotation sewn up, and looking to build upon a 2013 season where he compiled a 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 57/27 K/BB ratio over 102 2/3 innings.

Henderson Alvarez is expected to miss a couple of days due to a right shin infection.
Alvarez was originally scheduled to make his spring debut Sunday, but it will now have to be pushed back. However, it shouldn't keep him out of action for long.

Sun Sep 29 201315:39Going out in style: Alvarez fires no-hitter
Henderson Alvarez threw the fifth no-hitter in Marlins history in Sunday's 1-0 victory against the Tigers.
In one of the strangest no-hitters ever thrown, Alvarez was in the on-deck circle in the bottom of the ninth inning when Giancarlo Stanton scored on a Luke Putkonen wild pitch to end the game. Alvarez had already completed nine no-hit innings, but wouldn't have been credited with the no-hitter until Miami won the game. The 23-year-old right-hander, who struck out four and walked one, required only 99 pitches to complete nine frames and would have been given an opportunity to work the 10th if Putkonen hadn't bounced a pitch. The third no-no of 2013 sends Alvarez into the off-season having gone 5-6 with a 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 57/27 K/BB ratio over 102 2/3 innings.
