Mon Nov 25 201320:07Report: Derrick Williams on his way to Sacto
Derrick Williams will be traded to the Kings in a deal for Luc Richard Mbah a Moute that will be completed as soon as Tuesday morning so long as physicals are passed.
The Wolves will be checking out Mbah a Moute's knee and they apparently like him enough (and don't like Williams enough) to take the Prince in this deal as long as his knee isn't hanging by a thread. The move sends Williams, a notorious underachiever, to a team desperately in need of a small forward, but the only problem is that Williams isn't a small forward and the Kings have plenty of power forwards. We've seen what Williams can do when given the minutes and it's not that great. Outside of very deep leagues, this is a wait-and-see moment for Williams.

Mon Nov 25 201316:01Wolves close to trading Derrick Williams?
The Wolves are reportedly close to trading Derrick Williams, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis.
The Knicks, Nets, Kings and Jazz are believed to be interested. Williams' option was picked up this year, so he is under contract through next season. He's buried on the depth chart and matters will only get worse once Chase Budinger comes back, and there have been trade rumors on Williams for a while now. A trade to the Kings or Jazz would be interesting with their lack of depth on the wing, but he's only worth a stash in very deep leagues.

Mon Nov 11 201300:01Derrick Williams (back) quiet in return
Derrick Williams (back spasms) returned to action on Sunday but was scoreless in just three minutes of action.
He seemed to have settled into a 20-minute role off the bench prior to his injury, but tonight he was shelved in favor of Dante Cunningham (two points in 19 minutes). D-Will's playing time will likely be pinched further when Chase Budinger (knee) returns to action, casting a pall over his season-long outlook.

Sun Nov 10 201320:59Derrick Williams (back) ready to play Sunday
Derrick Williams (back spasms) said he will be available for Sunday's game.
D-Will's return is good news for the Wolves' depth chart but it has a negligible effect in fantasy leagues. He went scoreless on Wednesday and is averaging a mere 7.3 points in 22 minutes per game.

Fri Nov 8 201319:56Derrick Williams out with back spasms
Derrick Williams will not play against the Mavericks on Friday due to back spasms.
He's coming off an 0-of-6 performance and is just at 22.3 minutes per game on the season. Corey Brewer is starting to look like the best fit at small forward, so there won't be much of a role for Williams even when he returns from this injury.

Tue Nov 5 201310:08Derrick Williams getting late-game minutes
Derrick Williams saw important minutes down the stretch of Monday's loss to Cleveland.
Williams was part of a revamped late-game lineup that included J.J. Barea (and not Nikola Pevovic and Ricky Rubio) as coach Rick Adelman tried to infuse some life in the sluggish Timberwolves. Williams has been a bit up and down in averaging just over 23 minutes and just under 10 points in his three games this season, but Adelman's fourth quarter trust in the third-year player could lead to Williams being a (relatively) valuable fantasy asset.

Thu Oct 31 201317:20Derrick Williams will get chance to play
Derrick Williams will get his chance to play in the rotation this season.
"He's going to get a chance to play when it looks like there is a good opportunity for him," Adelman said. "But there are other guys, too. Right now Robbie Hummel's played very well, the whole month he's been here. Williams was a DNP-CD in the opener after his performance and minutes trended down in the preseason. The Wolves picked up his option last week, so it's a little surprising that they didn't play him at all.

Tue Oct 22 201309:18Wolves to pick up Derrick Williams' option
The Wolves will pick up Derrick Williams' $6.3 million option for 2014-15, according to team owner Glen Taylor.
Williams started alongside Kevin Love on Sunday, as the Wolves shift around players to account for the loss of Chase Budinger (knee), but it's unclear whether Rick Adelman is sold on D-Will as a SF. The looming extension is good news, at least, since it gives Minnesota extra incentive to develop him this season.

Sat Oct 12 201322:35Derrick Williams returns, scores 11 points
Derrick Williams returned from a precautionary one-game absence to score 11 points with zero rebounds, one assist and one steal on Saturday.
With Kevin Love healthy at PF, Williams' ability to play the SF position will go a long way toward determining his value until Chase Budinger (knee) returns. He didn't have much luck playing the position last season, but slimmed down this summer and should earn backup minutes at both PF and SF.

Thu Oct 10 201323:24Derrick Williams gets some rest Thursday
Derrick Williams did not play against the Bucks on Thursday.
Rick Adelman said he just wanted to rest Williams to allow Shabazz Muhammad to get some extra playing time. Muhammad scored 11 points in 21 minutes off the bench, so he hasn't done much to garner our attention in most leagues.

Mon Oct 7 201323:06Derrick Williams gets hot vs. Moscow
Derrick Williams looked good at the small forward spot on Monday scoring a team-high 21 points on 7-of-15 from the field with nine boards and two blocks in 30 minutes.
The Wolves lost to CSKA Moscow in overtime and allowed them to shoot 52.5 percent from the field while they made only 41.2 percent of their shots. Williams was effective in his move to small forward and he'll be a key piece for the second unit with Chase Budinger out for a while. D-Will has been a letdown numerous times, but he's at least on the radar as a late-round pick in deeper leagues.

Tue Oct 1 201315:22Derrick Williams plays more small forward
Derrick Williams played small forward with the second unit at Tuesday's practice.
Corey Brewer ran with the first team, but the loss of Chase Budinger appears to have slid Williams from his usual power forward spot. Brewer is going to be a weapon for the Wolves in transition and could get quite a few minutes, but Williams has been a 'tweener for most of his career and should be able to adapt as CB's backup. Brewer is a sneaky pick late in drafts and Williams could be someone to watch in deep leagues.

Fri Sep 6 201309:07Wolves will evaluate Derrick Williams
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said the team is still unsure whether they will exercise Derrick Williams' team option.
"We'll evaluate his summer program, and how he looks coming into camp," Taylor said. "I heard he is looking good." They have until the October 31st and would have to pay him $6.3 million for the 2014-15 season. Williams has been working out in California, but the team added a lot of pieces this summer and my not be moving forward with the former No. 2 pick.

Thu Aug 29 201315:51Derrick Williams to play some small forward
Flip Saunders said in an interview that Derrick Williams is losing weight, working on his explosiveness, and will spend time at small forward this season.
With Chase Budinger and Corey Brewer also vying for small forward minutes in Minnesota, playing time will be tough to come by for all involved. Saunders also said this is a "big proving year" for Williams, the former No. 2 pick, and we couldn't agree more. But with Kevin Love healthy and a full boat of wings, Williams may not have a chance to show his stuff this season.

Thu Jun 27 201309:42Saunders: Williams trade talk all speculation
Timberwolves GM Flip Saunders says any talk of Derrick Williams being shopped is "just a lot of speculation."
Of course, Saunders also said that anyone on the roster is tradeable "for the right price." The Wolves were reportedly pushing Williams, along with their two first-round picks, with the goal of getting a high lottery pick in order to draft Victor Oladipo. With the draft less than 12 hours away, get ready to see a lot of back-and-forth reports on trades and non-trades before the first round is over.

Tue Jun 25 201302:40Report: Wolves dangle D-Will, target Oladipo
The Timberwolves are reportedly offering Derrick Williams and picks Nos. 9 and 26 for a higher lottery pick with the goal of drafting Victor Oladipo.
Wolves owner Glen Taylor said this weekend that the Wolves were unlikely to trade D-Will, while team president Flip Saunders said they were unlikely to move up in the draft because it lacked "impact players." The Wolves' machinations haven't amounted to anything yet, though, as they "haven't found a taker" for their offer.

Mon Jun 24 201308:53Wolves owner: Derrick Williams likely to stay
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said it's unlikely the team will trade Derrick Williams.
Despite frustrations with Williams early in his career, the team isn't ready to give up on him, and that's nice to see. "Once we got him out on the floor and he had a chance to play, he started to play better. We have to remember that he still a very young man and a player that has a lot of potential. So we may trade somebody on our team, but it's not going to be [him], unless it really would help our team," Taylor said. Despite the previous rumors, it doesn't look like Williams will go elsewhere.

Mon Jun 3 201300:53Rumor: Wolves packaging D-Will & No. 9 pick
The Timberwolves will try to trade Derrick Williams and the No. 9 draft pick for a higher draft position this summer, according to Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press.
In 56 starts this season, Williams averaged 13.4 points, 0.8 threes, 6.2 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks in 28 minutes per game. He shot poorly (43.0 percent FGs, 70.7 percent FTs) and proved a lousy passer (0.6 assists vs. 1.3 turnovers), but more than a few teams would mull the offer if the Wolves actually shop it around.

Fri May 3 201309:55Kahn: T-Wolves had to draft Derrick Williams
Former Timberwolves GM David Kahn said "you just had to do it" when asked about drafting Derrick Williams second overall in 2011.
Many were calling for Williams to actually go first ahead of Kyrie Irving, and that would have been a monumental disaster for Cleveland. Players drafted after Williams include Jonas Valanciunas, Tristan Thompson, Brandon Knight, Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Vucevic, Iman Shumpert, Tobias Harris and Kenneth Faried. "You just had to do it, even though we were deep at that position. In time, I think it will prove to be the right pick," Kahn said.

Fri Apr 19 201309:25Adelman calls this summer 'big' for Williams
Rick Adelman said this will be a "big" summer for Derrick Williams.
After an abysmal rookie season, Williams responded this season with averages of 12 points, 5.5 rebounds and 0.8 triples on 43 percent shooting. Most notably, Williams improved his three-point percentage to 33.2 after struggling his inaugural season with a mark of 26.8 percent. As a starter, Williams averaged 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds, so he's still got plenty to prove if he's going to remain in Minnesota for the long haul. "He's certainly shown he can do some things for us, it's just a matter of how consistently he can do it," Adelman said.
