Sat Feb 23 201302:34Williams slows down in blowout loss
Derrick Williams scored nine points on 3-of-14 shooting (no threes) with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 23 minutes on Friday.
The Wolves were blown out, which explains a little bit of tonight, but this is always the fear with Williams. The Wolves have a solid schedule down the stretch so he deserves added consideration, but he has to keep up with the big popcorn stats to offset his poor peripherals.

Thu Feb 21 201300:10Derrick Williams plays well again in win
Derrick Williams stayed hot on Wednesday with 17 points, eight rebounds, a steal and two 3-pointers on 7-of-12 shooting.
Williams, J.J. Barea (6 points) and Luke Ridnour (8 points, 5 assists) are all trade candidates for the Wolves, but if Williams sticks, he could be a very solid player the rest of the way. And given the fact the Wolves play four games per week in six straight after next week, he is nearly a must-own player. He blew up for 24 points and 16 rebounds on Wednesday just before the All-Star break, and is apparently still hot.

Wed Feb 20 201308:04Report: Derrick Williams available for trade
Derrick Williams is reportedly available on the trade market, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.
Not a surprise here as Williams has been available in the right deal since basically the time the Wolves drafted him second overall. Unless the team gets an offer they simply can't refuse, it's hard to see a deal with Kevin Love (hand) still out.

Thu Feb 14 201301:03Derrick Williams has career night in loss
Derrick Williams exploded for a season-high 24 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, a block and two 3-pointers on 7-of-17 shooting in 37 minutes on Wednesday.
He's really coming on, averaging 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and a 3-pointer on 42 percent shooting over his last five games. Kevin Love is nowhere near coming back and Dante Cunningham has become an afterthought, meaning Williams is worth picking up in almost any league after tonight's explosion and his recent play. Just beware of the inconsistency, poor field goal and free throw shooting, which come in at 41 and 72 percent on the season.

Sat Feb 9 201302:49Williams scores 19 points on Friday
Derrick Williams scored 19 points on Friday against the Knicks, hitting 8-of-17 shots (0-for-6 3PTs) with six rebounds, one steal, and one block in 33 minutes.
Williams double-doubled on Wednesday with 15 and 12, but has been inconsistent all season and is going to take at least a small hit whenever Andrei Kirilenko gets back. He's worth a look, but owners should keep their expectations in check.

Thu Feb 7 201300:41Derrick Williams double-doubles on Wed
Derrick Williams double-doubled on Wednesday against the Spurs, scoring 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting (including two threes) with 12 rebounds.
Williams did not record a steal or block and this is about as good as it gets for him, and it's anybody's guess what they're getting on any given night. He's worth a look, but be cognizant of the risk.

Sun Feb 3 201300:05Derrick Williams cools off with five points
Derrick Williams scored just five points with three rebounds and one steal in 14 minutes against the Hornets on Saturday.
He's coming off a 15-point, nine-board game on Friday and this isn't the first time he hasn't been able to put up two productive games in a row. Williams has upside since he takes threes, but owners in standard leagues might want to explore for more consistent options.

Sat Feb 2 201302:17Derrick Williams scores 15 points
Derrick Williams scored 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting (including two threes) with nine rebounds and one steal in 32 minutes on Friday against the Lakers.
Williams struggles with his shooting, passing, and defense, and only really brings pedestrian scoring and rebounding to the table. He has been a borderline value in 20-team leagues over the past two weeks, and though he has room to improve he's not a must-own player in 12-14 team formats.

Thu Jan 31 201301:09Derrick Williams battles foul trouble
Derrick Williams was limited to 13 minutes due to foul trouble and had five points with one 3-pointer during Wednesday's 96-90 loss to the Clippers.
This was his second five-point game in a row, but before you rush to judgement, he did score 18 on Friday. He should still be viewed as a hold unless it's for a hot free agent like Michael Beasley. Dante Cunningham picked up the slack with seven points, nine boards, one steal and one block in 35 minutes, making him worth a look in deeper leagues.

Sat Jan 26 201322:53Derrick Williams disappears in loss
Derrick Williams had just five points, two rebounds and a 3-pointer on 2-of-8 shooting in 18 minutes on Saturday.
Dante Cunningham wasn't much better off the bench 10 points and two boards in 30 minutes, as the Wolves were able to play a three-guard lineup for most of the night against Charlotte. Williams still looks like the better player to own here, as long as he continues to start.

Fri Jan 25 201321:27Derrick Williams puts up double-double
Derrick Williams had his third double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds to go with one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in 31 minutes against the Wizards on Friday.
He shot 6-of-17 from the field, which has been a problem in his last five games, shooting 38.3 percent. Although, Williams averaged 13.0 points, 6.6 boards, 0.8 steals and 0.6 triples while shooting 84.2 percent from the line in that span, so he's worth a look in standard leagues.

Mon Jan 21 201317:30Derrick Williams scores 17 pts in 37 minutes
The Wolves lost in Atlanta on Monday despite getting 17 points and four rebounds from Derrick Williams, who started and played a season-high 37 minutes.
D-Will has a bunch of things going in his favor, chiefly the absence of Kevin Love and the Wolves' desire to showcase him for a trade, yet he's still a borderline option in 12-team leagues.

Sat Jan 19 201323:17Derrick Williams scores 11 points Saturday
Derrick Williams scored 11 points with five boards, one assist, one steal and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes against the Rockets.
He had the potential to go off with Dante Cunningham (illness) out, but he squandered the chance. Cunningham hasn't been helpful on offense much and Williams has shown flashes, so Williams is still worth a look in standard leagues.

Thu Jan 17 201323:06Derrick Williams has an OK night Thursday
Derrick Williams scored 10 points with seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 31 minutes vs. the Clippers on Thursday.
While he's been a bit of a liability on defense, Williams' second season has been better than his rookie campaign across the board in the shooting department with 43.2 percent from the field, 37.9 percent from downtown and 74.3 percent at the charity stripe. He's also been a slightly above average rebounder based on rebounding rate, so he could provide some boards for owners as long as he's let loose by Rick Adelman. He's worth a long look in standard leagues.

Thu Jan 17 201319:31Derrick Williams will start on Thursday
Derrick Williams will start at power forward for the Wolves on Thursday.
It should be interesting to see how he plays as a starter since he struggled mightily in his previous nine starts, shooting just 35.6 percent from the floor. This is still encouraging news to his value and he is worth a long look in standard leagues. Dante Cunningham will move to the bench and could lose some playing time.

Thu Jan 17 201312:42Williams or Cunningham could start Thursday
Derrick Williams or Dante Cunningham could start on Thursday, and a decision will not be made until Thursday afternoon.
Terry Porter said "it hasn't been decided," but Cunningham will likely remain the starter. That would jive with an earlier report from Thursday that indicated Cunningham would keep his starting spot, but his grip on the position isn't as locked in as it once was. We still like Williams' long-term upside with Kevin Love out.

Thu Jan 17 201311:38Report: T-Wolves shopping Derrick Williams
The Timberwolves are shopping Derrick Williams "heavily," according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500.
We'll see if Williams is moved with Kevin Love (hand) out for at least two months, but Williams' name has regularly surfaced in trade rumors since he was drafted so this really isn't surprising. Rumors around Williams will probably continue to swirl until right up to the February 21 trade deadline.

Wed Jan 16 201319:02Wolves considering starting Derrick Williams
Terry Porter said Wednesday that he's considering inserting Derrick Williams into the starting lineup in place of Dante Cunningham.
Williams has averaged 12.5 points on 46.9 percent shooting to go along with 4.8 rebounds and one steal per game since Kevin Love re-injured his broken finger Jan. 3. However, Williams has also failed to score in double digits for three straight games, illustrating the up-and-down worries that owners have about Williams' game. Given his potential, we would be very interested in seeing what he could with 30 minutes a night on a consistent basis, but his inconsistency makes him difficult to recommend.

Sat Jan 12 201301:01Derrick Williams scores nine points
Derrick Williams scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting (no threes) with three rebounds and one steal in 24 minutes off the bench on Friday.
This was the fear that some folks had about Williams despite all of the potential for upside. He disappears and doesn't have a fantasy friendly game, and his relationship with Rick Adelman is notoriously bad. The potential for upside makes owning him justifiable, but we wouldn't pass up on an average to above-average free agent that we like to hold on.

Fri Jan 11 201308:37Derrick Williams doing extra practice work
Derrick Williams is doing extra work in practice with assistant Shawn Respert.
After Williams was a DNP-CD the first time Kevin Love (hand) was out, it seemingly motivated the former No. 2 overall pick to get out of Rick Adelman's dog house. The extra work includes film sessions as well as shooting and dribbling drills, and it looks to be paying off. Williams has scored in double-digits in each of his last three games, including a double-double in his last one. He should be owned in all formats with Love out.
